Chapter 6
The next day, Hyunjin started the day by sleeping in.
Sundays were special, in the way that Changbin usually stayed out all day to do – whatever, Hyunjin never really asked. Presumably producing or songwriting with Chan and Jisung. But Sunday was the only day in the week where Hyunjin didn't have any classes or study sessions scheduled, and he even told his friends that he didn't have time to meet up on Sundays. It was Hyunjin time. Actual, real life, Hyunjin Self Care Day where he could spend time and energy on his hair and skincare, more than his hectic schedule allowed otherwise.
So he slept until noon, put on his classical music playlist and set to cook himself a big, healthy breakfast, and retreated to the bathroom to fill the tub with bubbles while humming along to Bach.
Needless to say, it was his favourite time of the week.
So when someone knocked on the bathroom door, Hyunjin wasn't pleased.
"No, you can't come in," Hyunjin called, closing his eyes and wishing desperately that a towel was near him so he could dry his hand and turn his music up, but alas – he had thought he'd be alone, and to reach the towel he would have to stand up. Which he did not want to do, thank you.
"It's me," Changbin at least had the decency to sound vaguely sorry. "We've just come back from our workout, but Chan-hyung's shower is broken."
Hyunjin sighed. "You need the shower right now?"
"Um," Changbin said, "if you don't mind?"
Hyunjin stared at the ceiling. On one hand, this was his self care routine that he did not enjoy messing up, but on the other hand – Changbin was a good roommate who rarely asked for things and always made sure to cook enough food for two. "Give me a minute," Hyunjin called, the decision made.
Letting his still comfortably warm bubbly bath water wash down the drain hurt his heart, but Hyunjin was not one to break his resolve (except on new year's) so he quickly dried his body and slipped into comfortable sweatpants and his fluffiest socks. His hair was still cloaked in conditioner, and he'd put a face mask on, that unfortunately happened to be bright neon green.
Well, it was Changbin's fault for interrupting him in the bathroom.
"AHHH!" Changbin screamed, stumbled back and fell on his butt.
Hyunjin tried very hard not to laugh. "What? Do I have something on my face?"
"Ah?" Changbin replied smartly.
"What happened, we brought you pizza as a peace offering, are you okay – ah!" Chan yelped when Hyunjin turned to him, but unlike Changbin he didn't fall, he burst out laughing. "Oh my god," he gasped for air, holding his stomach and leaning against the wall, "I thought you murdered Changbin or something, but you just look like those green aliens in low budget science fiction movies, ahaha."
Hyunjin raised an eyebrow. "When you're done rolling on the floor, did you say pizza?"
Chan wiped his eyes, offering a hand to help Changbin up. "Yeah," he giggled again. "Changbin said you probably wouldn't be happy about us interrupting your Sunday, but he also said you would probably accept unhealthy food as a peace offering."
Hyunjin beamed, ignoring how the green paste on his face shifted with his cheeks, "Binnie-hyung! I almost forgive you. I need the bathroom back in like twenty minutes to wash this out of my hair, so hurry up."
Changbin, red faced from falling on his butt, only nodded and averted his eyes.
"Sure thing," Felix, who Hyunjin hadn't noticed, squeezed himself into the tiny space in front of the bathroom door. "Whatever you put in your bath, it smells amazing."
"Well, now I know what I'll get you for your birthday," Hyunjin replied dryly, "where is my pizza?"
The pizza was delicious. Of course it was, Hyunjin loved pizza. Eating proved somewhat difficult, the facemask getting in the way, but after Hyunjin struggled to eat one slice for five minutes, it was time to take it off anyway. The cloth went in the trash, and he soaked a tissue with warm water in the kitchen sink to wipe away the green goo.
He was... mostly successful.
"Wait, you forgot something there," Changbin, still in his work out clothes, stepped into the kitchen. "Let me."
Changbin took the tissue from Hyunjin's hand and carefully wiped along Hyunjin's hairline and cheekbone. He folded the tissue and held it against the corner of Hyunjin's mouth, gently wiping away the last of the green slush. The tissue felt cool on his skin despite the warm water, the soft fabric smoothly dragging over his skin.
Hyunjin held his breath.
"Thanks, hyung," Hyunjin said when Changbin had stopped for a while. "Why are you staring at my lips? Please don't tell me I have a pimple."
Changbin blushed and threw the tissue in Hyunjin's face. "Why aren't you wearing a shirt, like normal people?"
Hyunjin rolled his eyes and turned away to put the tissue in the waste bin. "I didn't feel like getting conditioner on my favourite sweater. My hair is too long."
"Oh," Changbin blinked. "I'm going to throw Chan-hyung out of our shower. Bye."
"Okay." Was Changbin feeling okay? Hyunjin squinted after him, but then shrugged and turned back to his pizza. Finally he could eat.
"Well, that was awkward," Felix said and dropped into the chair across from Hyunjin, startling him in the process. "How do you feel about the fake dating?"
Hyunjin stared longingly at his slice. "I haven't even thought about it today. I feel good about it," he added, and proceeded to stuff the whole slice into his mouth.
Felix's face twitched.
"This pizza is delicious," Hyunjin mumbled with a full mouth, "I shall forgive you for interrupting my Me Time."
That, at least, made Felix smile. "Changbin-hyung was pretty convincing when he said we'd have to bring you an offering today."
Hyunjin hummed. "He's usually out on Sundays, I don't know how he could have known that. Does he often work out with Chan-hyung?"
"Literally that's all they do when they're not working on music or buying Jeongin food," Felix rolled his eyes. "Speaking of, did you think about a 3Racha song that you'd like to dance to? I know I like all of them and I'll make an educated guess and say Minho isn't picky either."
"I haven't thought about it yet," Hyunjin shrugged, "maybe I'll listen to their latest mixtape later, but I don't feel like being productive yet."
Felix laughed. "Valid. Why the green face mask though?"
This time, Huynjin finished chewing and swallowing before he answered. "It's organic and it was fifty percent off."
That made Felix laugh again and they easily slipped into skincare banter and Felix unsubtly asked questions about caring for bleached hair. Hyunjin, knowing he'd be the first Felix would come to when he decided to bleach his hair, answered to the best of his ability.
Chan, freshly showered but still occasionally giggling about Hyunjin's green face mask and Changbin screaming and falling on his butt, joined them.
When Hyunjin was done with his pizza and contemplating how to best uninvite his friends from his house, Changbin, the angel that he was, appeared to let Hyunjin know he could wash his hair now. And when Hyunjin came out with his hair wrapped in a fluffy towel and wearing an oversized sweater, Changbin was the only other person in the apartment and he was making Hyunjin coffee.
"You're an angel, hyung," Hyunjin told him, accepting both the coffee and the bottle of water Changbin handed him. With a sigh, he dropped onto the couch and winced at the creaking noise. The screen of their TV was on and showed the next episode of Goblin queued up.
"I thought we could finish our drama today," Changbin stood awkwardly where Hyunjin left him, "unless you have other plans, of course."
Hyunjin turned off his phone without glancing at it and threw it out of arms' reach. "Absolutely, yes. What are you waiting for? Come here."
By the time they finished the drama, it was late at night, they'd eaten all the snacks they could find and Hyunjin was yawning, wrapped in a blanket. A blanket he was sharing with Changbin. He was leaning against him, touching from shoulder to ankle, and in his scrambled mind – Goblin ending, whatever the fuck plot-twist-time-skip that was, sleepiness, Changbin: warm, sweater: cozy, sleep: wonderful – he couldn't decide whether he wanted to wrap Changbin in his arms and never let him go or if he wanted to rest his head on Changbin's chest and let sleep take him.
Luckily, he didn't have the time to come to a decision. Changbin let the final ending credits play and gently coaxed Hyunjin to his feet and to the bathroom, ordering him to brush his teeth and go to sleep, he'd clean up the empty snack packaging. Hyunjin protested, but Changbin smiled at him and somehow managed to uwu his way into getting what he wanted.
Hyunjin brushed his teeth and crawled into his bed, shivering once when adjusting to the lack of a Changbin shaped heater and then falling swiftly asleep.
