Chapter 24

A loud, offensive ringing noise woke him.
What the fuck, Hyunjin thought and pulled the blanket over his head, arms finding Changbin and clinging to him. Sleep was nice. Bed was warm. Silence would be good.
The noise didn't stop, but Hyunjin did not have an alarm set, and Changbin's alarm wasn't this annoying.
"It's the doorbell," Changbin said and cursed, also being ripped from precious sleep.
"I didn't even know we had a doorbell," Hyunjin mumbled.
"I'll go see who it is," Changbin carefully untangled himself from Hyunjin, kissing his nose and hands as he left, heading towards the door.
Cool morning light fell through the windows, though definitely not enough to be called a valid time to bother someone on Sunday morning.
The ringing finally stopped and the blessed quiet let Hyunjin fall back into a light slumber. Sleepy heaviness in his limbs, warm darkness beneath his closed eyelids, his body still tingling into the tips of his toes from the night before. He was a cuddler and could sleep curled around another person every day, and he was incredibly grateful that Changbin was the same.
He couldn't sleep much longer.
"Jinnie, wake up," Changbin's soft voice reached him, and fingers threaded to his hair.
Hyunjin blinked the sleep away only because he wanted to see his boyfriend's face. "Why?"
"Well, Seungmin –"
"Help me, Hyunjin," Seungmin interrupted, "you're my only hope."
Hyunjin sat up, rubbing the sleep from his eyes. "What the fuck. Are we quoting Star Wars at each other? Um, I'm your father?"
"What? No," Seungmin stepped into the room, nearly tripping on a discarded sweater, "I have a project due in five hours and I haven't started. It's that class about realistically drawing real people? You know how much I suck at that!"
"You're not that bad," Hyunjin said, though yeah, maybe Seungmin had a point. Seungmin was amazing with nature and making sculptures and even 3D graphics, but while he was inventive in all kinds of symbolism and expression he had trouble with drawing people. He was in one of the classes Hyunjin modelled in and struggled – which was completely normal and he definitely wasn't the only one. They had those classes to learn, after all. "Didn't you say you'll do a portrait of Innie?"
Seungmin's face twitched in anguish. He had dark rings under his eyes and paint splatters on his old jeans and ratty hoodie. "I didn't finish it in time and his parents are visiting today so he can't sit, and the only pictures I have of him are blurry selfies. Please help. I'll give you as many hugs as you want for the rest of time."
Hyunjin blinked. What was happening?
Seungmin sighed and dropped his shoulders. "And I'll do a vocal cover of the Got7 song of your choice. Now will you please just say yes and tell me where I can set up my things so I can fucking paint you already? I'm stressed and haven't slept."
Oh, Hyunjin mouthed, brain finally coming online. "Of course, Seungminnie. Just start with that next time."
Changbin handed Hyunjin one of his yellow hoodies. "The living room will have more light and more space for you to work with."
"Thanks, hyung," Hyunjin smiled at him. "How do you feel?"
"Really good," Changbin answered, kissing Hyunjin's forehead once he pulled the hoodie on. "You?"
"Yeah, really – amazing, honestly."
Changbin smiled. A sweet, adoring, happy smile, and the sun might as well be high in the sky judging by how warm it made Hyunjin feel.
"I feel terrible," Seungmin grumbled, the energy in the room going completely over his sleep deprived head.
"I'll get started on some coffee," Changbin said, reaching for a sweater from his closet. "Any breakfast requests?"
"Coffee would be nice," Seungmin said, perking up. "Thank you for not kicking me out."
"What are friends for?" Hyunjin asked, leaving bed and not even feeling sad about it because Seungmin was right there and Seungmin gave very good hugs, even when stressed and sleep deprived. "Besides, you offered to sing a Got7 song. No take backs, by the way."
Changbin snorted. "Like you wouldn't let Minnie paint you for nothing but a nice hug and because he asked."
"Shhh," Hyunjin said, laughing and pushing Seungmin to the living room, "I'll go brush my teeth."
Seungmin had brought a bag of paints, brushes and old cardboards painted white in preparation for colours. A messy stack of crumpled paper for sketches threatened to fall out of the bag. He got comfortable on the floor between the couch and the coffee table, rummaging in his bag for old newspapers that he spread around him to protect surfaces from paint splatters.
Done in the bathroom, Hyunjin dropped down next to Seungmin, stretching his legs and yawning. Seungmin's process was familiar to him, as he had watched Seungmin and Jeongin do this often, and this wasn't the first time they asked to draw him.
One time Jeongin had taken pictures of all of his friend's hands, only to recreate them in charcoal with incredible detail and personality.
"Here you go," Changbin returned, two cups of coffee ready for them.
"If Hyunjin doesn't date you, I will," Seungmin said, breathing in the coffee fumes.
Hyunjin abruptly turned to Changbin, who froze halfway on his way to kiss Hyunjin.
A glance can say a thousand things, as they say, so Hyunjin postponed giggling for a minute to a later date and reached out to pull Changbin into a deep kiss. Changbin responded, closing his eyes and melting into Hyunjin despite their awkward positions, Changbin leaning down with nowhere to hold onto but Hyunjin's shoulders. They deepened the kiss, Changbin licking into his mouth effortlessly, swallowing Hyunjin's smile.
They parted, and Hyunjin was faintly aware of how he must look. Head thrown back, hair – while briefly brushed after waking up – messed up from Changbin's hand, smiling up at his boyfriend, whose expression was both of wonder and of shared mischief.
"What the fuck," Seungmin deadpanned, "am I hallucinating or did you really just kiss?"
Hyunjin giggled now, "Minnie, how did you miss the fact that we've been dating for a week now?"
"I? Literally? Did not miss that?" Seungmin said, furrowing his brows. "And it's been two weeks now? I offered to post the video of Changbin-hyung dancing to the Ottoke song, if you remember?"
"You offered what?" Changbin rubbed his neck, clearly embarrassed. "I have never in my life heard of that song."
"Oh my god," Hyunjin laughed again, "Seungminnie, I mean like – we're dating for real now. I've had some major revelations about my feelings and fell in love with Binnie-hyung. The only fake thing about us is the Fake Break Up we'll stage to get our promised cash."
Seungmin blinked. "Oh."
"Yeah," Changbin said.
"Wait what?" Seungmin's eyes widened. "You mean to tell me you've been dating for a whole week and none of you thought to tell me? Who else knows?"
"Felix and Minho-hyung guessed like... the second we saw each other after hyung and I kissed."
Changbin laughed. "Same with Chan-hyung and Jisungie."
Seungmin was already dialing Jeongin before Changbin finished his sentence.
"Hey, hyung," Jeongin's voice sounded jarred over the speaker. "My mom is literally about to give me food, why are you calling?"
Not once interrupting his glare at Hyunjin and Changbin, Seungmin asked, "Did you know Hyunjin and Changbin-hyung are dating for real?"
"Uh, duh. Of course," his tone was laced with confusion. When Seungmin didn't answer immediately, he cackled. "Wait, did you just find out? Hyung, this assignment must have been stressing you more than usual. Did you get anything done? I can come back to our dorm and help you, you know? It's okay."
"I'm fine, Innie," Seungmin averted his eyes from Hyunjin's curious raised eyebrow, ears reddening. "I'm painting Hyunjin again. You should have fun with your family."
"If you say so. I'll be home for dinner, alright? I'll bring take out."
"I'd like that," Seungmin said, blushing furiously now. They exchanged a few more words and hung up.
Hyunjin and Changbin exchanged a smug look.
