Chapter 19
"Ahem." Felix cleared his throat. "This is the cafeteria? You need to eat food too. We have one more class, Hyunjin."
Reluctantly, Hyunjin and Changbin parted. Changbin's eyes were dark, his lips parted, and Hyunjin wanted to drag him home and – but wait, they'd only been dating for like a day. Also, both Felix and Minho were looking at them like they didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
"You are so whipped," Minho said, "I wish I could unsee your heart eyes but I've also been waiting for this."
Felix smiled like the sun. "Same. Also, Binnie-hyung, that jacket suits you."
"Um," Hyunjin, suddenly embarrassed, pressed his thigh against Changbin's under the table and turned to his food.
Changbin blushed. "Hyunjin said he'd take my hoodie, so I thought it would be only fair if I stole his clothes too."
"You look good in my clothes," Hyunjin smirked. Felix laughed, Minho applauded and Changbin hid his face in his hands, but only for a moment. Then he looked up at Hyunjin with simple happiness drawn on his face and Hyunjin melted inside.
"Eat your food," Changbin finally said, turning to his own lunch.
Hyunjin snorted unattractively, but did as Changbin said.
"I've got ideas for our next choreo," Minho announced then with his mouth full, "I'm thinking we should do it shirtless."
Changbin choked.
"Hyung, are you okay?" Hyunjin immediately turned his full attention to Changbin. He unscrewed his water bottle when Changbin didn't seem to have anything stuck in his throat and handed it to him. "And no, Minho-hyung, what? I feel like the nude modelling is getting to your head. There's a lot more steps before you can become a stripper, I think." Hyunjin paused. "Though I don't know those steps."
Felix giggled. "If we want to perform this in a university setting, clothes would be a good idea. But... well," he smirked, "we can just wear very thin shirts."
Minho rolled his eyes nonchalantly. "It's just a thought." He smirked as he turned back to his food.
"... Sure," Hyunjin murmured. He exchanged a glance with Changbin, whose face was kind of red as he stuffed his mouth with food. Oh, well. Hyunjin still had a lecture with Felix before they'd meet Minho in the practice room for the afternoon, and then who knew how long it would take until he saw Changbin again in the evening? So he resolved to look at Changbin now, at his cute fringe and undercut that was slowly growing too long to be really called an undercut.
Hyunjin barely managed to finish eating in time before Felix glanced at his phone and frantically pulled Hyunjin away.
And Hyunjin really tried his best to focus on the lecture. He really did. It was just kind of hard when Changbin's cute smile popped up in his brain every five minutes. Felix side eyed him and occasionally seemed like he was trying not to laugh, but Hyunjin only told him to go think of Chan's smile. So they spent the second half of the lecture equally distracted.
"They always talk about useless gays and useless lesbians," Felix lamented when the lecture was done and he looked at his terrible and inconclusive notes. "But what about useless bisexuals? The other day Chan, the love of my life, told me he used to have a crush on Kim Possible and I could relate. This is terrible."
Hyunjin, staring at his equally bad notes, sighed deeply. "I always thought she was awesome. Chan has good taste, Lixie."
"Oh? You think I'm on the same level as Kim Possible?"
"Of course," Hyunjin turned to Felix. "You're like, the impersonation of making the impossible possible. Also, you'd look good in a crop top and with orange hair."
Felix furrowed his brows. "I could dye my hair orange."
Hyunjin chuckled. "You should dye your hair orange. But maybe not right now, because Minho will skin us if we're late."
"You mean he will skin you," Felix packed his bag and laughed. "I think it's because you don't like cats, while – you remember the first time we talked to him? At that halloween party in high school? I was wearing cat ears. I think that's why he likes me. Not that he doesn't like you, too, you know."
Hyunjin grimaced. He made a lot of sacrifices to receive regular updates on Soonie, Doongie and Dori without having to desperately and pathetically beg for it, but were those sacrifices worth getting fed tissues? Yes, they were. If Minho knew Hyunjin wanted and loved the cat updates, Minho would make him beg for it on a daily basis, and Hyunjin still had some pride left. Felix didn't know that, though. "I know he loves us both," is what Hyunjin said as he followed Felix out of the classroom. "I love him too. And you."
Felix pulled him into a warm hug.
The afternoon flew by quicker than Hyunjin had thought. Once they put on Wow, ideas came in abundance. While a choreography definitely took longer than a single day to make, and their audio file was still subject to be rerecorded and Chan would still do some arranging and rearranging, they made progress.
Tired and lying on the ground to rest, they almost forgot to film what they had for reference.
"This is going to be great," Minho said, out of breath. "If only I could do a backflip."
"I'd yell for help, hyung," Hyunjin replied.
Felix laughed. "I'll do a cartwheel if you do a backflip."
Hyunjin arrived home late, but Changbin was still in class. Not knowing when Changbin would be back, he alternated between watching kpop videos and doing homework. He wanted to cook, but he also wanted to cook with Changbin. In the end, the only thing he got done was a list of things he needed to get done. And Twice's Fancy was stuck in his head.
That was okay though.
Hyunjin's heart did backflips when he thought about Changbin telling him he loved him too, so he figured he would still have some emotional processing to do. Besides, Changbin had said he liked him for a while, and their friends seemed to have known. Why hadn't Changbin said anything?
Hyunjin wanted... well, he wanted everything with Changbin. He didn't think about the implications when he said it but he did mean the proposal. Changbin had made a home in his heart as easily as they'd moved in together. And Hyunjin knew he committed completely, without hesitation. It's simultaneously your greatest strength and your most devastating flaw, Felix had uttered once, in the quiet of four in the morning when they were drunk and Hyunjin was crying over his ex.
He would commit to Changbin as long as Changbin wanted him to.
The door quietly opened just as Hyunjin was in the middle of vacuuming the living room. Hey, Hyunjin was attempting to study and listening to kpop, procrastination came naturally, and he was proud of himself that it had turned into something productive like cleaning. He turned the vacuum off.
"Hyunjin-ah," Changbin called over the sound of the music. He looked – happy. And a bit tired, because it was Monday.
Hyunjin muted Got7 (the things he did for Changbin, unbelievable) and greeted Changbin with a smile. "Hyung. Hey."
"It's good to see you," Changbin said, smiling too, and Hyunjin forgot anything he may have wanted to say or ask.
"You too," Hyunjin replied after a moment.
Changbin closed the door behind him and took off Hyunjin's jacket. Without breaking eye contact he stepped to Hyunjin and stopped an arm's length away. "Hey."
Hyunjin tilted his head and closed the distance between them. He grabbed Changbin's hand and pressed a fleeting kiss onto it and wrapped his arms around Changbin's neck. He didn't try to kiss him, but the hug felt just as intimate.
"Hyunjinnie," Changbin murmured. "Kiss me."
So Hyunjin did.
Their food nearly burned twice, too. Still, they managed to eat and do the dishes without anything breaking, and talked about everything and nothing while doing it.
Hyunjin took every opportunity to lean against Changbin or kiss his cheek, and Changbin took every opportunity to hold his hand and thread their fingers together. Rather difficult while attempting to wash a pot, but very appreciated nonetheless.
They brushed their teeth standing next to each other, and Hyunjin dragged out brushing his hair because he noticed Changbin staring at him in the mirror.
"Don't you still want to work on music," Hyunjin asked when they stood between their bedroom doors.
"I have work tomorrow," Changbin reminded him. "I should at least try going to sleep early."
Hyunjin hummed, running his hands lightly from Changbin's shoulders over his chest to his sides and leaning in. "Yeah?"
Changbin cupped his neck and kissed him deeply. Hyunjin let himself be pushed against the wall, tugging Changbin by his hips along with him. This kiss was open mouthed and desperate, almost, almost rough. Hyunjin ran his hands over Changbin's back and pulled him closer.
Hyunjin bit back a moan when Changbin inevitably parted from him for air.
"Do you wanna... sleep together?" Changbin asked, his fingers threading through Hyunjin's hair.
"I'd love to," Hyunjin murmured, against Changbin's neck, "but I think the only condoms I have are expired by now."
"I – uh, what?" Changbin pulled back to look into Hyunjin's face. "I didn't mean – um, I mean – I would love to sleep with you, too, but that's not what I meant –"
Hyunjin blushed, and realised several things at once. Changbin was very very cute when flustered and Hyunjin should have noticed that ages ago. Now Hyunjin could only do his best to fluster Changbin like that every day, because Changbin's wide eyed expression and red ears were simply too cute to handle. And Hyunjin had misunderstood Changbin's intentions, which were honestly just sweet and adorable and Hyunjin loved him a lot, was it even possible to love someone so much? And then he felt the simple joy of knowing he would fall asleep with a Changbin shaped heater next to him, and he'd be warm all night unless Changbin hogged the blankets – and blankets were something Hyunjin was prepared to fight for, even if his opponent was Changbin.
"I mean like," Changbin sighed and then he hid his face in Hyunjin's neck. Or more like, face palmed into Hyunjin's collarbone. "Just to sleep. Fully dressed."
Hyunjin couldn't help the laughter bubbling up in his chest. "You're adorable, hyung. Let's sleep together."
"Hyunjinnie," Changbin whispered, but he wrapped his arms around Hyunjin's waist for another minute before tugging Hyunjin into his room.
Hyunjin followed him, smiling, and turned off the lights as he went.
