Chapter 18
Changbin-hyung! Good morning.
Did you sleep well? I slept good! I hope you don't mind that I stole one of your 3Racha hoodies.
Reminder: yes, we did kiss yesterday, and yes, I love you.
Come see me for lunch?
Hyunjin
Hyunjin stared at his post-it note. Was this too much? Not enough?
He sighed and doodled a handful of hearts in the corners of the paper. They turned into misshapen blobs. But Changbin was smart, he'd know what Hyunjin was trying to do here. Satisfied, he nodded and gathered his things.
When he arrived in the practice room, Felix wasn't there yet. Hyunjin chose a corner and started stretching.
"You look happy," was what Minho said first when he dropped down next to Hyunjin. "It's Monday morning. How do you look happy?"
"Good morning to you too, Minho-hyung!" Hyunjin grinned. And then, as all men do, he lied: "I'm happy because I just saw a cute video of a puppy!"
Minho, predictably, grimaced and made a disgusted noise. "I can't believe I tolerate your presence." He unlocked his phone and held a very cute picture of Soonie into Hyunjin's face. Soonie was on his back, holding a fluffy feathery ball between all his four paws, and making the cutest expression towards the camera. "My only solace in this cold world is Soonie."
Hyunjin bit his lips in an effort not to coo at Soonie. "Ew. A cat."
"His name is Soonie and I like him more than I like you," Minho grumbled, swiped to the side and showed a picture of Doongie sleeping adorably. "Look at him and see the light."
Hyunjin was seeing the light. "Nope," he said and smirked in a way he knew would annoy Minho into sending those pictures directly to his phone to 'use up space.'
"Oh, is that your cat?" Felix arrived, snatched up Minho's phone and beamed at Doongie. "How many cats do you have again?"
Minho ripped his phone from Felix's hands. "If I didn't love you both so much. If only. Oh, I wish."
"How's Dori?" Hyunjin asked.
"When I left, he was lying on Sungie's face, it was very cute," Minho grumbled, so upset about Felix that he didn't notice the way Hyunjin started glowing with serotonin. He'd always had a soft spot for Minho's youngest.
Felix, however, did notice. "Hyunjin, did you finally kiss Changbin-hyung? You look too happy for Monday morning."
Hyunjin blushed. "Um."
"What, really?"
Hyunjin hid his traitorous face in his hands.
"Oh," Minho said slowly, "so you finally realised you like him. Took you long enough."
"What?" Hyunjin looked up sharply. "You knew?"
Minho rolled his eyes. "None of us would have been so accepting of the dating thing if we didn't think you liked him, too. You'll be great together."
"Wait, too? You knew he liked me and I liked him when I didn't know?" Hyunjin shook his head. "What?"
Felix smiled brightly. "Yes, it was quite obvious. Duh. And I'm happy for you! You deserve this. "
"Huh." Oh, well. "Yeah, we kissed," Hyunjin said, thinking about how to best explain to his friends that Changbin had walked into a wall and spilled coffee all over himself, and then they kissed and Changbin had held his hand so gently.
If it were three in the morning and they were all drunk, he'd tell them about confessing his feelings to Changbin first, realising that talking about it had been the right thing to do for his own feelings, regardless of Changbin's reaction. He'd talk about him realising that he was better now, and Minho and Felix definitely wouldn't have to fight his boyfriend for his honour, because Changbin was his boyfriend now. But he wasn't drunk and it wasn't three in the morning, so this conversation would have to wait.
"Oh no," Minho realised. "You're going to be all gross together, aren't you? Next thing we know you'll sit in each other's laps and propose to each other and... steal... each other's... clothes..." his voice got quieter as he took in Hyunjin's appearance for the first time. "You're wearing his 3Racha hoodie."
Hyunjin grinned. "We are the cutest couple on campus. You have no chance against us."
"I'm the cutest couple on campus," Felix disagreed, "I've been doing that with Chan for ages."
"Yeah?" Hyunjin raised a teasing eyebrow. "You proposed?"
Felix blushed. "Not yet?"
"I'll have to step up my game, it seems," Minho murmured.
"Oh, please," Hyunjin said, "you're the one who has three children, shut up."
"You have children?" Felix asked, voice an octave higher than normal. "Since when?"
"My cats, you dumbass," Minho hissed, but he smiled at the thought of them.
Before Minho could change his mind and murder Hyunjin (because he would never murder Felix) the instructor arrived and they got started. It was refreshing to dance again, to feel a hiphop beat and a strong bass resonate with his body and soul. How would he cope when he didn't have a morning dance class at some point in the future?
Hyunjin's good mood held on during his lectures and into his lunch break, when he met with Felix and Minho in the cafeteria.
He met Felix at the doors. Felix smirked.
"So, how's the real dating going?" Felix threw an arm around Hyunjin's shoulders just to be obnoxious and leaned in close. "Tell me the details."
Hyunjin elbowed him in the ribs. "Tell you what? That Changbin is cuter than you? I already knew that and you knew that too."
"Okay, but did you kiss first or confess first?" Felix wiggled his eyebrows. "Did he feed you unhealthy food and you just decided that he's the one?" Hyunjin, thinking of the way Changbin had given him spoon after spoon of tiramisu directly into his mouth in a way that certainly wasn't nsfw but definitely felt like it, couldn't stop his expression giving him away and blushing. Felix's eyes widened. "Wait, really?"
"I –" Hyunjin started to defend himself, but Minho appeared out of nowhere.
"What did I miss? What's up with Hyunjin?"
Felix grinned. "Changbin made him unhealthy food and Hyunjin fell in love!"
"That's not –"
"Oh, I knew it! The way into a man's heart is through his stomach." Minho nodded. "With a knife, technically, but I suppose food also works."
Hyunjin sighed. "That's not what happened."
"Well," Felix tugged Hyunjin into the cafeteria. "Then you'll just have to enlighten us."
Hyunjin rolled his eyes and let himself be dragged along.
When they had their food, Hyunjin was not surprised to find himself with his back to the wall in a corner table, Minho and Felix in front of him, the same expression of patiently waiting for the Good Gossip on their faces. Hyunjin let his face fall into his hands and took a deep breath. There was no way around this. He knew that. Minho and Felix knew that. It was still going to be embarrassing, though.
"Yesterday, Changbin cooked rice and fried vegetables," Hyunjin began, "and we ate that with Chan-hyung's sauces. Lixie, can you thank him for that, by the way? They were very good."
Felix just waved him off. "Continue."
"Then we decided to watch, uh –" Hyunjin quickly met Minho's eyes and looked away, "– dog videos and Changbin was making coffee, wearing one of my hoodies and looking all – you know how Changbin looks. Anyway. I suddenly realised I had feelings for him and then I told him I love him –"
"Just like that?" Felix laughed. "That's something only you would do."
"And um." Hyunjin pressed his eyes closed. "We kissed."
"And?" Minho asked, smirking.
"And," Changbin answered as he slid into the chair next to Hyunjin, "I love him."
"Hyung," Hyunjin blushed as he reached out to take Changbin's hand. "I love you too."
Changbin smiled and leaned in to peck Hyunjin on the cheek. Hyunjin turned his face in the last moment to press his lips against Changbin's. His lips were soft.
Hyunjin smiled at Changbin.
"They really are that cute," Minho grumbled. "Seriously?"
"Aw, adorable!" Felix's eyes sparkled. "So, you kissed, and then?"
Hyunjin wrapped his arms around Changbin's broad shoulders and hid his face in his neck. Changbin, who was wearing one of Hyunjin's artsy jean jackets, leaned into his touch. "Missed you," Hyunjin whispered.
"We kissed," Changbin confirmed, "and then we had tiramisu."
"I fucking knew it," Minho said, and pointed at Changbin. "You seduced Hyunjin with food."
Changbin twitched nervously. "Maybe?"
Hyunjin kissed the back of Changbin's hand. "I'm fine with that, so Minho-hyung is also fine with it."
"I – um – you are?" Changbin stared at Hyunjin's lips, just over his hand. "I mean – I didn't, I just want to spend time with you."
Hyunjin's heart felt like it suddenly grew the size of the moon. Changbin really was the best roommate. No, Hyunjin realised, Changbin was the best boyfriend. How did this even happen?
He took Changbin's face between his hands and kissed him, right in front of Minho and Felix. Changbin melted against him, returning the kiss just as deeply. Changbin grabbed the front of Hyunjin's hoodie. Warmth exploded inside him and he smiled into the kiss.
