Chapter 1

The classroom was usually empty thirty minutes before the lecture was set to start. Hyunjin, who always came early after his morning dance class, used this time to drink a coffee, let his damp hair dry fully and revise the material they were expected to before and after the lecture. Today, though, it looked like he wasn't the only one early.

A guy Hyunjin had only ever seen in passing in the lecture sat next to Hyunjin's usual seat. He wore an oversized black shirt, approximately five golden chains around his neck, and he had way too much product in his hair for it to be healthy. One strand falling in his eyes was dyed a mossy green, and Hyunjin winced internally in sympathy. Green was a difficult hair colour to have, it looked like shit way too easily.

"Yo, what's up," the guy said in English and then continued in Korean, "I'm Trevor. You're Hyunjin, right?"

"Uh, yeah," Hyunjin said and reluctantly took his seat. The dude definitely came early to talk to him, and Hyunjin didn't know how to feel about that. He didn't know a lot of people in the music department, and since he was only here to satisfy his curiosity he never planned to. His social life happened with his dance friends, and their friends, and the occasional calls with his mom.

"You're gay, right?"

"Uh, yeah," Hyunjin eyed the guy, "I mean, bisexual, but yes." Maybe the guy was trying to come out to him? Ask for advice? Nothing about the guy gave Hyunjin bully vibes, except maybe the hair – but really, the hair only seemed to yell 'I'm straight and don't want to know anything about hair care.' Hyunjin supposed he should stop making fun of the guy's hair. What was his name again?

The guy grinned. "Great! You're like a model, too, right?"

Hyunjin shrugged. So he signed up to be a nude model for the art department. It's not like he was nude all the time there. He already suffered through Felix and Minho laughing at him, before they signed up as well.

"What if I were to tell you I could give you ten million won if you date this dude?"

Hyunjin blinked. "What?"

The guy grinned and Hyunjin couldn't help but lean back a bit.

"I'm not going to sleep with you for money," Hyunjin answered. "Or, at all, actually. Thanks but no thanks."

"Oh, no no," the guy lifted his hands, "not me! Also, you don't have to sleep with him. It's ten million won!"

"What?" Hyunjin resisted the urge to facepalm. "Is this a cult thing?"

"No!" The guy laughed at that. "Maybe I should explain."

"Maybe you should," Hyunjin agreed.

"My friends and I have this rivalry with this douche," he started, "like, you know the type. A rapper, thinks he's better than the rest of us, has a Soundcloud, is an antisocial ass, right?"

Hyunjin nodded along. It sounded suspiciously like music department gossip that his roommate would find amusing, because didn't that description sound like every single rapper in this university?

"Well, this one offended me and some friends, so we've thought of a plan. That's where you come in." The guy paused and watched Hyunjin for a reaction, but Hyunjin had perfected his poker face a long time ago (when he signed up for nude modelling). "You're attractive, so you'll ask him out and he'll say yes, and then you date him for one month, that's important. One month, so he falls in love with you, and then you break his heart."

"Oh?" Should he point out that this sounded like the start to a trashy teen romance that would still end happily and definitely not like Trevor seemed to think it would end?

"And I'll give you ten million won in cash afterwards," the guy finished with what was probably supposed to be a winning smile.

Hyunjin was going to politely decline and then pretend this never happened. Wasn't this... embarrassing, for the guy? Still, his roommate may know these people and would want to know this tea (if he didn't already know). "Uh... who's the guy?"

"Seo Changbin."

Hyunjin raised a single eyebrow. His expression didn't waver for a long moment.

"You don't know him?" The guy seemed to struggle whether to be happy or disappointed about this. "He's not very tall, and always wears black, if that helps?"

Hyunjin tried very hard not to laugh. "Ten million won, you said?"

"Yes! Oh my god, you'll do it?" The guy whooped, and just in that moment the door to the classroom opened again and a couple of students walked in.

Hyunjin lowered his voice. "Show me a picture of this Changbin and I'll do it, though if he's like, straight, or I'm not his type, it won't work. Just saying."

Trevor fumbled with his phone and pulled up Changbin's Instagram, which Hyunjin nodded at and wrote the handle down in his notes for class. He couldn't really type it into the Instagram search, because then the guy would see that they were already following each other. The guy, appeased, scribbled his name, number and various social media below and told Hyunjin to just message him updates whenever, also to check out his music, and then he finally left Hyunjin alone.

What the fuck, Hyunjin thought. But hey, ten million won? He could buy a comfortable couch with that, and a new fridge. He wouldn't have to worry about financing his extra contemporary dance classes next semester. Hell, if his roommate liked, they could buy a whole new TV – or better yet, a projector to watch kdrama in life size on their living room wall. Maybe his roommate would stop whining about his faulty mic if he just bought a new one. Wait no, ten million won weren't that much, since they also needed to repaint a wall for the projector, but...

Hyunjin's thoughts were interrupted by the arrival of the professor, so he decided to plan later. After all, Changbin had to agree first, and what if he wanted to spend his part of the money on something like a wristwatch? Was that a thing rappers liked? Would Hyunjin still buy a new fridge and couch with his half of the money or would he want Changbin to pitch in?

With a sigh, he turned to the lecture, which was fairly interesting too.

When it was over, Hyunjin quickly left, not wanting to chance having to talk to the guy with the bad green hair again. Luckily it was Thursday. Hyunjin loved Thursdays.

His classes would end at two pm, and then he'd head home right on time for weekly Roommate Time.

They'd been roommates for almost a year now, thanks to Felix's boyfriend Chan knowing someone who had also been looking for a new roommate. All Hyunjin had needed was Felix's reassurance that he was a good guy and he had immediately said yes.

That didn't mean that they were like, friends or something. Well, okay, they definitely were. But Hyunjin had his dance classes in early morning and by the time he came home in the afternoon, his roommate would be gone and not return until late at night, when Hyunjin was asleep. In a way, they didn't see each other much, aside from group hangouts.

That was why Hyunjin insisted on having one day in the week to either do chores together or cook, because not communicating properly with a roommate was the reason they had both been roommate-less in the first place. This had led to them discovering a shared love for kdrama, which had become their weekly ritual. Hyunjin would not miss it for the world. Hey, it was important to have hobbies beside university.

"Changbin-hyung, you'll never guess what happened today!" Hyunjin called as soon as he stepped inside the apartment.

"Mhhhh," Changbin's sleepy voice answered from the kitchen.

"Still not quite awake, I see," Hyunjin leaned against the doorframe, watching Changbin tiredly pressing buttons on their shitty coffee machine. "Guess what happened!"

Changbin turned to him. He was wearing pyjama pants and an oversized, bright yellow sweater. "You dyed your hair pink?"

Hyunjin rolled his eyes. "That was like last week, duh. No."

Changbin rolled his eyes. "You have a date?"

Hyunjin burst out laughing. "Okay, that's close enough, I'll give you that. Correct!"

"What?" Changbin took a sip of his coffee and cursed when it burned his tongue. "Ah, not again... I swear I burn my mouth every morning."

Hyunjin smiled fondly. "Idiot. Anyway, I will have a date. Maybe. How do you feel about ten million won? Wait no, five for you and five for me?"

Changbin's face scrunched in confusion. "How does that work? I didn't think modelling for the art department paid that much."

Hyunjin couldn't help it. He laughed again, running his hand through his hair. "No modelling is involved, I promise. Just a bit of fake dating."

"Fake dating who?"

"Me."

Changbin choked on his coffee.
