Chapter 5-Tiers
*same day as chapter 3*
It was dinner now. Aryk waited for Candy by the doors to the cafeteria and now they were in line for food.
I am so glad that we chose not to go to a restaurant on campus today for dinner. The cafeteria is serving my favorite cafeteria food: purple mashed potatoes with gravy, groosling, and salad! I love it!" Aryk ranted.
Candy grunted underneath her breath. "I wanted middle-eastern." Aryk shot her a look. "Hey! I'm in a middle-eastern mood. Can't blame me." Candy responded with a shrug. Earlier in geography (which is also history) they learned about middle-eastern royalty.
After retrieving their food, they headed to the dining area of the cafeteria. There was 5 tiers in order to fit everyone. The tiers got smaller as you went up. At the back was where the stairs were and at the front was a wall made of glass that overlooked a massive garden. Those of higher status sat up higher and those of lower status sat lower. Since Candy was future queen of Elftopia, she sat on the fifth tier (the highest) with Aryk always accompanying her. "I'm feeling we should sit over by the railing today." Aryk announced. "Same here," Candy agreed.
Once they put their stuff down they went to go get drinks. On the way to the station, someone rammed into them.
Aryk humphed, Candy sneezed, and the person was apologizing rapidly, despite the fact they had coffee trailing down their shirt. "Oh my gosh I am so sorry! I didn't see you coming and in my rush to get some bullies their coffee--" he stopped when he saw who he ran in to. His face lit up as he looked down at Aryk and her face lit up as she looked at his.
"Aryk!" He said at the same time as Aryk exclaimed "JACOB!" Aryk knocked the other cups from his grasp and stretched her arms up. Jacob gave her a quizzical look. Aryk waved her arms in circles above her head. "Pick me up!" "OH! Right, sorry." Jacob blushed, flustered. He crouched down, lifted Aryk up under her biceps, and rested her on his hip like a toddler. She was the height of a 6 year old.
"Long time no see." Aryk said. Jacob snorted. "OO you snorted!" She shouted excitedly. He rolled his eyes before saying "I saw you just yesterday. I don't think that was a long time."
"Well it was to me."
"Maybe that's because your smaller so things pass by slower."
"DON'T BRING MY HEIGHT INTO THIS!"
"How long have you guys known eachother?" Candy interrupted.
Jacob jumped and nearly dropped Aryk. But Aryk screeched and dug her nails into his skin. "AH Aryk loosen your vise-like grip, will ya?"
"Sorry, sorry." Aryk loosened her grip a tad and turned her head to Candy. "I met him yesterday. He's that one guy who was on a stretcher." Aryk explained.
"Ohhh. How long after did you wake up?" Candy nodded as she spoke.
Jacob let our a nervous chuckle. Almost immediately after." He bent down and whispered in Aryk's ear. "Does she know? About me being dead and all that?" Aryk shook her head no. He let out a huff of relief. "Thank gosh."
Candy cleared her throat awkwardly. "So, Jacob... Would you like to join us at our table?"
His eyes shot wide as he snapped with his free hand. "Oh shoot. I gotta get more coffee for those idiots." His body swayed as Aryk shook her head persistently. "Drop it. Ain't happening. You, my friend, are coming with us." She turned her head toward the stairs. "Onward!" Candy started walking toward the stairs. Jacob followed suite, Aryk still planted firmly on his hip.
When they passed the fourth tier stairs, Jacob bit down on his lip. "Uh... Guys? I get it your royalty and all, but do you really think it's such a good idea for me to sit up here... with you two... and your crazy rich friends.... Oh gosh what am I doing up here?" Jacob wondered. "I gotta go!" Jacob blurted. He was out the door and down the hall when he heard a quiet snore. And there was Aryk, still on his hip, head lolled back in sleep. Whoops, forgot about her. Heavy sleeper, the little thing.
"Yoohoo, Aryk." He said quietly, nudging her shoulder.
Scared, she jumped up and became a phoenix, slightly burning Jacob. "REEEEE!" Aryk screeched.
"What?" Jacob asked.
"REEEEE!" Aryk repeated. Jacob gave her a pointed look and she became her normal self. "Why can't you understand me? You should be able to translate the most basic stuff." Then another thought occured to her. "Unless your not--"
"SHHHH!" Jacob shouted. Which got him a smack from Aryk across the face. "I deserved that." Aryk nodded. "But come with me." Jacob said, looking around.
"We have thirty minutes left and I want to actually eat dinner." Aryk said. That was Jacob's que. He grabbed Aryk's hand and dragged her to a vacant corridor.
He stared nervously at the ground. "Aryk, I don't know if you know this or not, but I'm different from the rest of you." He looked up into Aryk's eyes with a gaze so intense it made her want to back up. "Aryk, I am a human."
Yes, yes, I know a short chapter. But meh, this has been my third update within the past few days so.
