Chapter 46
Salaam readers,
I have waited forever for this chapter to be republished. It contains one of the most wonderful discoveries.
Please leave behind tons of comments :) I'm so excited!
I tested my handcuffs. They were tight and firm around my wrist. I could lift my arm four or six inches, but that was it.
Rizwan was lucky that my hands were fastened, or else I would have gained immense pleasure in slapping him.
"You know what, Rizwan?"
"Tell me," He invited, as he pulled an empty chair and moulded himself into it.
"I pity you."
His smile widened, "I'm honoured to receive your pity, but may I know the reason, princess."
"In spite of being so wealthy, you have to stoop to such low levels. I don't think even your body respects your soul."
I watched him grinning. "My, my, you could make a saint, but unfortunately the devil inside me loves doing things that are morally degrading."
"You are a monster."
"Of course, I am, and until now people have only seen a glimpse of it, but after I get hold of the research papers the world is going to witness such disaster that they are going to beg the devil to let them live."
"You will never ever succeed."
"Time will say and don't worry about your little one, as I'm not planning on killing you. I wish to see you and your handsome hubby rot in the slum," He seethed, as he regarded me with narrowed eyes.
"We aren't afraid of poverty, Rizwan. Allah is sufficient for people who have faith."
He plunged forward, grabbing my cheeks with his rough hands. "You better stop your nonsense."
"What happened, Rizwan? Doesn't the monster inside you possess the ability to listen to the truth? You are going to lose everything, Rizwan. Before you die you will witness failure."
He slapped me hard and blood began oozing from my mouth. I winced in pain as I turned to face Lissa, who was seeing everywhere but me. I grinned in spite of the immense pain.
He pulled my hair roughly and then kicked the chair making it stumble, "Lissa, make sure that I never see her again or else I'll take immense pleasure in sucking the life out of her."
My head hit the ground and I pressed my sleeve on my temple to stop the extreme pain that reverberated through my skull.
He walked out, after throwing one last glance at me, it was filled with extreme venom, but I met his gaze unflinching.
Lissa was staring at me now, a puzzled expression on her face. "Have you lost your mind? What in the world possessed you to argue with him?"
"What does it matter to you?" I asked nonchalantly.
"I don't care, but you would definitely blame yourself if your little one gets hurt because of your foolishness." She said in a matter-of-fact tone.
I groaned, "You're right, I was so angry that I forgot for a minute about the baby."
Safa entered the room looking like a cat who was contemplating a large, rich bowl of cream, as she studied me. She was grinning from ear to ear, "It is not wise for a woman to forget when she is carrying a child," She smiled cynically and went on, "Calm and care at all times are most advisable. When I saw you through the peered door, I was so afraid that you would hurt the baby when you fell," She kept a sympathetic face, giving a perfect illusion of concern.
"Thanks for your concern safa," I replied sarcastically.
"Now, now, now, don't get your hopes high. Your well being is of our concern because we have made a pact with Aahil that if he helps us gain the research papers, then we will turn his pregnant wife unharmed."
I swallowed hard, trying to dodge the lump that had formed in my throat. "That is such a cruel thing to do."
She let out a hearty laugh and wiped the excess moisture formed in her eyes with her painted nails. "Do you expect your kidnapper to be gentle and sweet?"
I imagined Aahil receiving the news of my pregnancy, and the threat that accompanied the good news, and my heart constricted in pain. I had always imagined that if I ever became pregnant, then I would disclose it to Aahil in a very pleasant atmosphere, and there would be flowers and happiness around us, his face would light up when he heard about the baby.
Unfortunately, nothing of that sort was going to take place. Our life wasn't as normal as the rest of them, but we were chosen to protect the safety of our country and that in itself was the greatest celebration I believed.
My dad had lost his life in this battle of wealth, and I believed that Aahil wouldn't allow his death to go waste. We would fight for truth with our very breath and justice would be found, it had to be found!
Dad always loved to say that, Allah gave his hardest battles to his bravest soldiers.
"Of course, I wouldn't expect kindness from such harsh people. Humanity could never run in your blood."
At my statement, she lost her sanity and began laughing uncontrollably. "Humanity? Does it run in the blood of your family?"
"What do you mean?" My own voice sounded unfamiliar to my ears.
"You would be in peace as long as you are in dark and wouldn't understand the meaning."
"I do want to know," I shouted, my stomach sinking.
Her laughter only caused the anxiety in me to increase. I kept a hand on my heart as I felt extreme pain course through it.
"Hasn't the stories of heroism of your father raised your levels of bravery? But sadly the stories of your mother is going to demoralise Aahil."
"Mother?" I felt my blood freeze in my veins.
"Your husband's Stepmother." She drawled carelessly.
I knew whom she was going to name and I felt oxygen get trapped in my throat, making it difficult for me to breathe.
"I'm unable to grasp your words," I replied slowly, my head spinning, making me dizzy.
"Safa, you have had your say. Just leave the room, your dad won't be pleased if he realises that you have disclosed providential information," Lissa said sternly, pulling safa by her arm and guiding her outside the room.
Safa threw a dirty look at Lissa, "Don't forget you are as corrupted as rest of us." She then looked at me with complete hatred. "It is SAFIA."
Aahil's mother?
I should have guessed that it had to be her when I had glimpsed at her abaya the other day.
But, how could she betray her son and family?
She always seemed so loving and caring. I couldn't take it anymore and broke down completely.
I just hoped that Aahil would be able to handle the blow better than me.
_____________
I ran my hands over the smooth leather diary and then held it close to my heart.
Experts weren't able to find any clues and they had finally decided to hand it over to me.
I was supposed to read the whole diary within twenty-four hours and then I would be hypnotised.
I hugged it tightly as if drawing strength from it. I inhaled deeply through the pages and smelt the familiar dad's scent, silent tears made their way through my eyes and travelled through my cheeks, dropping on the page and leaving behind a wet stain.
I quickly dabbed the stain with my sleeve and continued reading from where I had stopped earlier until now I hadn't come across anything that could be bracketed as an important clue. My eyes strained from reading for hours together but I couldn't stop until I would finish it all. Handcuffs were removed for the time being and my legs were fastened to the chair with heavy chains.
We had been to watch the fairytale drama's that are usually put up in the town during the summer vacations as it attracts a lot of young children. Aleena loved them extremely.
She believed that the world was filled with fairies and angels and I never told her otherwise.
She had watched the drama's of most of the fairytales, but somehow this one seemed to please her infinitely, and she kept blabbering the story of that particular drama during most of her childhood.
My wife was tired of hearing the story over and over again. But I must admit that there was something very fascinating about the story.
The theory that caught Aleena's attention was that the entire drama had no 'Superhero', but rather had a 'Superwoman' as the lead role and she possessed enormous powers to end evil. She was kind-hearted, generous and selfless.
I often caught Aleena trying to play the role of that fairy in front of the mirror and I always laughed out at her innocence.
A few years later I heard her say that when she grows up she would want to become a fairy, and at that moment I knew that she was attracted towards goodness and I felt my heart soar with happiness.
I always kept calling her with the name of that fairy as it suited her perfectly.
I always try to use that word when I need to put codes to my security systems, as the name is so unique and it always reminds me of my little angel.
I closed the diary with shivering hands. Most of the pages were drenched with my tears.
My heart was beating so rapidly that I could feel the blood pumping in my veins.
I put my head in between my knees to stop the extreme dizziness.
Breathe, Aleena breathe
You need to breathe
Finally, I knew the password.
I couldn't stop the shivering and I let the book slip from my hand and fall on the ground with a definite thud.
That fairy's name was...
'HONEYDEW'
