CHAPTER ELEVEN: lollipop
{ call my baby lollipop, tell you why. his kiss is sweeter than an apple pie } -- lollipop, the chordettes, 1958 }
Evie mentally cursed herself as the sound of an unfamiliar alarm woke her up.
That was not her alarm clock.
This was not her pillow.
This was not her bed.
She turned over, realizing that she was naked and that she was lying in the bed of Riverdale's favorite ginger.
Oh, right. That.
After their apologies and admissions of their seemingly problematic mutual infatuations, Archie and Evie had decided that, since they'd made their bed, they might as well lie in it.
And that they did.
Five times.
Evie's hand snaked over to Archie and she flicked the boy on his forehead. "Wake up!" She hissed quietly.
The redhead jumped in his sleep, waking as the girl's fingernail came into contact with his skull. "Wha-? What time is it?" He squinted at his clock.
"Time for school, Red, and I'm in your room." Evie whispered. "How are you going to get me out without your dad noticing?" The Serpent girl hated to think that Fred Andrews knew what her true motives in coming to his home were. She wasn't feigning innocent, but ... well, she hated to disappoint a man like Fred Andrews.
Archie pulled some clothes on as Evie did the same, then looked out his window, seeing that the coast was clear.
"Where's your bike?" He asked.
"Across the street." Evie responded, tugging on her combat boots.
"Okay. I'll help you down. It's not too far, trust me." Archie glanced at her with a mischievous smirk. "I've done the jump a few times."
Evie chuckled, rolling her eyes. "Ooh, what a bad boy you are, Andrews." She grabbed her backpack. She didn't know if she had time to make it home before school. Maybe Sweet Pea could bring her some clothes. She shot a quick text to her brother, hoping he felt like being nice today.
"Ready?" Archie asked. Evie nodded and walked over to the windowsill. It was still a little dark out, but she could see the pinks and oranges of the sunrise to the east.
"Ready." She nodded and took Archie's hand, then carefully slipped out of the window, and let go of Archie's strong hands, falling gracefully to the ground below.
"You good?" Archie whispered out the window.
"I'm golden." She blew the boy a kiss and then snuck back towards her bike.
She felt a hand on her shoulder and spun around, expecting to come face-to-face with the redheaded boy she'd spent the night with. Instead, she stared into evil green eyes, hidden beneath a black hood.
"You." She hissed.
His mouth was covered, but Evie could see that he was smiling from the way his eyes crinkled. "You're a sinner." He whispered.
She had to admit, the voice was familiar, but in the midst of the fear she was in, she couldn't identify it. Her heart raced, and her body felt as it had been turned into cold Jello. "Please, no -- stop!" She shrieked, but the assailant clamped a rag over her mouth.
Of all the ways to go, Evie was going to fall victim to the Black Hood. The bastard.
She felt her eyelids go heavy, and she felt herself sinking into a sleep from whatever drug the rag had been soaked in. She collapsed into the Black Hood's arms, unable to stand on her own. In one last move of courage, the girl shoved her leg out, landing a solid kick to her beloved motorcycle. "Sorry, baby." She muttered to the bike, but before she could tell if it had fallen or not, she was out.
--
Archie had been getting dressed when he heard a loud bang come from outside his still-open window. He peered outside, noticing Betty Cooper across the way doing the same. He waved to Betty, then stuck his head further out the window to see if he could identify where the sound had come from. His eyes went wide as he noticed a familiar motorcycle upturned, laying on its side.
"Honeybee." He murmured, quickly dressing in the rest of his clothing before running outside, his trusty baseball bat in tow. "Honeybee!" He yelled, running frantically around the bike. There was no sign of her beyond the fallen motorcycle.
"Archie? Is everything okay?" The boy spun around to see Betty running out of the Cooper home. The blonde's eyes locked on the motorcycle. "Isn't that ..."
"Honeybee's." Archie nodded, running a hand through his red hair. "She was ... she was just here."
"What do you mean, Arch?" Betty asked, peering at the bike.
"With me, she just left ... She was headed for her bike, and now she's gone." Archie said, looking over at Betty. "The Black Hood. What if he's got her?" Archie felt his stomach drop in panic, and he felt as if he could vomit. First his dad, then Ms. Grundy, then Moose and Midge ... now Evie?
"Archie, don't --" Betty reached out for the boy, knowing what his next instinct would be, but it was too late. He was already off, running towards the woods that loomed close to the neighborhood. Where else could the Black Hood escape to?
"I'll call you later!" Archie called out behind him as he headed into the woods.
Betty stood next to the bike in disbelief. There was so much about the situation that surprised her, but it didn't matter right now. Honeybee was missing, so they had to find her. She got out her phone and called Jughead, knowing he'd want to know, and then he could tell Sweet Pea. "Hey Jug, we have a situation..."
--
Jughead would not wish his current task on his worst enemy. He walked slowly towards the Morgan trailer, knowing Sweet Pea would not act peacefully upon learning his sister may have been snatched by the Black Hood. He knocked on the door, then stood back, waiting for it to be opened.
"Jones?" Sweet Pea raised an eyebrow, obviously confused as to why the boy would be at his door at such a time in the morning. They both should have been getting ready for school.
"Hey, Sweet Pea. You got a minute?" Jughead asked.
"Yeah, I guess. I was going to wait for Honeybee to get home before we left for school, but ... well, I'm guessing she spent the night with your Bulldog pal, so I probably won't see her." Sweet Pea backed up and let Jughead into the trailer.
"Yeah, about that ..." Jug trailed off as he followed the boy inside.
Sweet Pea tensed up and turned around, his eyes already angry. "What? 'About that?' What did that redheaded asshole do to my sister? I swear to God, I'll kick his ass!" He lunged towards Jughead, and Jug gently pushed Sweet Pea away from him.
"Archie didn't do anything." Jughead responded, then began to carefully explain the situation as it had been explained to him.
By the time Jughead had finished talking, Sweet Pea was pacing the room and had thrown a stray plastic cup across the room. "I'm going to kill that asshole, whoever he is!" He yelled and lunged towards the door.
Jughead pulled him back. "Hey! Pull it together! Do you want to find your sister or not?" He yelled back.
Sweet Pea's eyes flicked over to Jughead's. "Of course I do, Jones. She's my sister! She's the only family I've got."
"Okay, then you need to cool it. You need to stay calm so we can find Honeybee. Do you understand?" Jughead hissed.
Sweet Pea nodded. "Where do we start?"
