Author's Note
Can I just say, I love this story so much but after the movie comes out I'm afraid it's going to make me seem like a pedophile?
So, I heard about the movie adaptation of MPFPC coming out, and I've been tracking it since 2014. Now they release this picture where Bronwyn is younger than Olive, and Millard is like six, and Emma's a platinum blonde, and Miss Peregrine looks like she just turned nineteen. Can I just, quickly, make a note of how I perceived their ages based on their tones and maturity levels? Millard and Emma both state that they don't mature past whatever age they enter the loop in, so those two, at least, must have been pretty mature. Basically:
Millard: roughly 15-17.
Emma: 16ish
Bronwyn: 11-13
Olive: 6
Claire: 8
Enoch: 9-10
Fiona: 14-15
Hugh: 15-16
Horace: 8
...So you can see my dilemma when I see them all completely scrambled.
You can't tell me Millard acts like a six year old, or that maternal Bronwyn is younger than toddler-esque Olive. I'm going to hate the movie, and that grieves me so much. They even included the twins (you know, those two creepy kids from the tunnels mentioned once) as children of the loop. I'm honestly terrified to see what they did to the abilities. What next, sparkly rainbow hollowghast?
Perhaps I'm being a little harsh. I've had a lot of disappointments lately.
But anyway, I'll update again once the movie comes out (September 20th, right?), and state whether or not it did this book justice. I just... Agh. It's like making Hermoine a redhead, or making Ginny older than Fred and George, or making Katniss Prim's younger sister, or, I don't know, this might be a little drastic, but making Jesus the antichrist.
It just don't make no sense.
Anyhow! To the people who read the book and this fanfiction:
I appreciate your support and your reads and comments. It really does help me out, because honestly, I never knew how shallow I was until I learned how much a vote means to me. It's true that writers are fragile souls, and very sensitive folk, and continuous support for a story as short as this one makes me feel... Well, it makes me feel like I might stand a chance professionally.
My life is kind of maybe a little bit falling apart. I don't know what I'm doing academically, and I can basically watch my ambitions fall down the toilet and into the abyss. And the abyss isn't even bothered to stare back at me anymore when I stare into it (did I mention my insomnia is hyped up?).
So to have excellent readers tell me that they appreciate my work means a hell of a lot more than I can express. I appreciate all of you for it, infinitely, and I can't even begin to properly explain how much it means to me that you read so far as to get to this part of the note. Honestly, I'm surprised you didn't just close out when you saw I'm just ranting about the movie "adaptation" (honestly, it's worse than those horror movies that are "based on a true story"- have you ever looked up the actual stories? it's like Pamela got hit by a car, so let's make a movie about her ghost coming back to torment young lovers and possess babies and say it's based on a true story).
Anyway! Thank you, dearly, for reading. I'll go see the movie the day it comes out and then say whether or not my rant is justified. In the mean time, I appreciate it, and let's keep waiting for book three!
