Okay, I'm actually really passionate about this topic. It's something that can literally ruin a book for me; I've clicked off of books because they've used a certain actor/actress as the face claim for their main character.

Have any of you ever done this? Because if not then you're stronger than I could ever be.

You will notice that they are all above 21 and very attractive. I've noticed that a lot of writers are drawn to faces that are significantly older than the character they play. I, myself, am guilty of this. Let's use my character Joselyn as an example. In my book she's around 15-16, but the actress who plays her, Adelaide Kane, is 29 as of this year. I chose her because she's young looking, pretty, and has quite a few gifs available. This is the train of thought most people take when they choose one of these face claims.

...And it's pretty toxic.

We've basically created the idea that all teenagers, or at least interesting ones, need to look like fully developed, clear skinned adults who don't have to currently deal with puberty. Which is not realistic at all. I mean, how many people look exactly like they do when they're teenagers? Literally nobody! We're still growing into our bodies, into ourselves, and none of use are going to look like bloody Angelina Jolie at 18 years old.

This ideology has created a lot of shit for teenagers, myself included. I know I don't look like that one really hot 16 year old in the tv shows. But my brain still convinces me I must be the ugliest thing to ever walk the Earth's surface.

I just wanted to shed some light on this topic, even though I know twenty million other people have already. I hope some of you can see my reasoning, and I'd love it if you could comment any overused fc's because I know there are so many more.
