Twenty One - South Carolina

Uh I guess a warning: Very poorly written fight scene near the end. I dunno if that actually has to be a warning, but I'm not taking any chances.

The plane ride to South Carolina was really awkward I must admit. I was luckily able to trade seats with someone so that I could sit next to John, but that meant sitting by Carrie, too. I tried my best to ignore her constant glares by looking out the window, but it wasn't working out so well.

Once we landed, I felt my heart start racing. I was about to meet John's dad once again, a man who would not be so fond of me I'm sure.

We take a cab to his house- Well actually, mansion. Holy crap his dad is rich.

John, Carrie and I all walk into the big entrance and are greeted by a well-aged woman who seemed very sweet. She hugs John and Carrie scoffs.

"Mom, so good to see you again." John says, embracing his mother tightly. He looked a lot like her, with all of the freckles and the curly hair.

"Oh, John." She smiles before pulling away and glaring at Carrie. "We heard what happened...Your father is not pleased, but I for one am glad you finally did the right thing."

I see Carrie roll her eyes and I chuckle a little bit. This brings John's mother's attention to me, and she tilts her head. "John, who is this?" She asks.

John turns to me and smiles. "Oh, Mom, meet Alex. He's an old college friend of mine." He says and I reach my hand out to shake hers. "He's the one convincing me to go through with this." I hear him whisper.

She smiles brightly and hugs me instead of shaking my hand. I'm shocked, but I don't pull away. "Mom, I'm going to go talk to Martha before talking to Father. Can I have Alex back, please?" He chuckles as I stand there uncomfortably.

She giggles and pulls away. "Alright, alright. You go, Carrie and I will catch up." She sighs and Carrie laughs.

"You know, I'd be alright if we didn't-"

"Nope, let's go to the livingroom. Now." His mother interrupts Carrie and I stifle a laugh.

John then leads me upstairs and knocks on a large door before opening it. "Martha?" He asks.

A young girl looks up from her bed and then gets up and runs towards John and hugs him. "Oh my God, finally. I was worried you'd forgot to come and get me."

John chuckles and hugs her back. "Forget about you? How could I?" He sighs and pulls away. "I have to talk to Father first, and then we are headed far, far away from this awful place." He assures her and she nods.

"Alright, sounds good.." She looks over at me and then back at John. "Is this Alex?" She asks.

John blushes and nods and she runs and hugs me and I stand uncomfortably again. "John's told me so much about you. Thank you for helping me get that scholarship.."

I nod and look at John and he laughs slightly. "Alright, Martha. Alex isn't really a big hugger, give him some space."

She pulls away quickly and smiles. "Uh, sorry.."

"Martha, why don't you go finish getting your bags packed? I'm going to go talk to Dad." John suggests and she nods and runs back into her room. John then looks back at me and smiles awkwardly. "You ready?" He asks.

I nod and we head down the stairs to see his father crossing his arms. "Ah, John. I was wondering when you'd get your lousy ass downstairs to say hi to your old man." He says, not looking very happy. "Carrie told me about your little mistake yesterday."

John shakes his head. "It was no mistake, Father. I'm not going to marry her, I don't love her."

Henry lets out a loud laugh and walks up a step closer to us. "You think I care if you love her? Marriage isn't about love, it's about what comes with the marriage." He explains terribly as he rubs his forefinger and thumb together to symbolize money. As if they're not rich enough.

John shakes his head. "No Father, you can't force me to marry her. In fact, you can't force me to do anything anymore. I quit working at your corporation, you can have the stupid house back, I'm leaving for good this time." He says firmly.

I smile slightly until Henry takes another step closer to us, his face looking even more angry. "You don't get to just leave, John. It doesn't work like that."

John crosses his arms, mirroring his dad. "I'm an adult, and you will not fucking control me anymore."

Henry chuckles lightly. "If you think Martha isn't going to-"

"Martha isn't going to get anything, I'm taking her with me. She's also an adult, and will not be treated like this." John says firmly.

Henry takes one more step closer to us, now being two steps and arm distance away from us, and I clench my fists, just in case. Henry then looks at me and laughs.

"Who is this, your stupid ex-boyfriend?" He asks.

Did he tell him that we dated?

John is now clenching his fists, looking angrier than I had ever seen him. "He's not stupid, Dad, and you will not drag him into this. This is between you and me."

He chuckles again and then steps to the side so he's in front of me now. "Hm... I should have known you were trouble from the moment I saw you." He mumbles.

I glare at him. "You don't scare me, not one bit."

He smirks at this. "Oh, but you should be scared."

John then quickly stands in front of me and punches his father in the face. He then turns to me. "Grab Martha, and then run!" He yells before turning back around only to get punched in the gut.

I wanted to help, but I knew he would object so I ran back up the stairs and knock rapidly on the door we had previously opened. It opens and Martha is standing there with her bags. "Let's go, now." I say before grabbing two of her three bags and running to the other staircase.

I run to the bushes and set her stuff down before looking at her. "Stay here, I'm going to get John and we'll be back. Be ready to run." She nods and I run back inside.

I see Henry beating up on John and see his mother crying while watching. "Henry, stop!" She screams.

I then run towards him and tackle Henry to the ground, punching him repeatedly. I look over at John and see he is at least sitting up right. I stand up and kick Henry before grabbing John and running out the back door. He wasn't very stable, so I carried him bridal style, along with one of Martha's bags, and we start running. We run very, very far away from that house.
