Three - Testing the Waters
"Alright, listen up class." An old man says as he walks in. Even though he seemed old, he seemed like he could still move around and take anyone in a fight.
"My name is Mr. Washington, I will not answer to anything else." He then goes up to write something on the white board.
I look around the small classroom to observe my classmates. The only people I knew were John and Aaron, but everyone else had a completely different face.
"Also, you know this is a debate class. I only want to hear arguing if it can be backed up with facts, otherwise I don't want to hear it." Mr. Washington says firmly. "I don't have time to deal with your guys' drama."
I raise my hand. Mr. Washington sighs and raises an eyebrow. "Yes, Mr...?"
"Hamilton, Alexander Hamilton, sir. Um, I was just wondering when our first debate would be?" I ask, tilting my head slightly.
"Well, Hamilton, you're eager, aren't you?" He chuckles lightly. "Keep up the enthusiasm and you'll be sure to pass this class."
I smile and look around once again to see two guys, obviously bigger than me, glaring at me. I frown and look down at my paper I had in front of me.
"Why are they glaring at me?" I whisper to John as Washington continues with his rant to the class.
John looks over to the other two and then rolls his eyes and chuckles. "That's Thomas Jefferson and his best buddy, James Madison. They're jealous of anyone who tries to one-up them." He whispers back.
I nod and then look the taller one, Thomas, in the eye and smirk. "Well, challenge accepted."

"Alright, class dismissed. Don't forget to write that essay, I expect two pages done by midnight tonight. My email's on the board for you guys to send it to me." Washington says, earning a groan from the rest of the class.
As the other students begin walking out of the class, I walk up to Professor Washington's desk smiling nervously. He looks up at me and raises an eyebrow.
"You have more questions, Hamilton?" He asks, somewhat annoyed.
I rub the back of my neck. "Uh, sorta. I just wanted to know how you would like me to get the essay to you."
He rolls his eyes. "I told you to email me. My email is up there on the board."
I shake my head. "No sir, I can't do that. I don't have a laptop."
He looks back to me, clearly confused. "Ok, send it on your cellphone then."
"I don't have a phone, either, sir.." He pauses and I look down at the ground. I knew I should've saved up for some sort of device.
He then chuckles lightly. "Well Hamilton, you could write out this first essay and give it to me when you get it done, but your deadline is sooner. My last class today ends at 9pm, will that work?"
"Yes sir, I should be able to get it to you by then. Thank you, sir." I smile and then walk out to meet back up with John. By this time, his other two friends had joined him and they were talking amongst themselves.
"Hey, guys." I smile as I approach their little circle. They all look at me and smile.
"Ah, Alexander. It's nice to see you again." Lafayette says, smiling brightly.
"You don't seem very miserable, Alex. Do you not get hangovers?" Hercules asks me, frowning.
I chuckle and shake my head. "I didn't drink last night. No alcohol equals no hangover."
The three look at me with shocked expressions, unable to comprehend what I had just said.
"You mean to tell me that you went to the bar last night and didn't drink any alcohol? What did you do, then?" John asks, still shocked.
I shrug. "I drank water, chatted with this guy named Aaron, watched you guys be idiots-"
"Wait, Aaron as in Aaron Burr? Was he there last night?" Hercules interrupts.
I nod and the three just nod along. "Anyway, we're going for lunch, you wanna come?" Lafayette asks, breaking away from the awkward conversation.
I simply shake my head. "No, I have to finish Washington's homework plus I have another class today." I say to them.
"What class do you have?" John asks, seeming confused.
"I have Art of War. I need to take it for part of my history credit." I explain to them.
"Wait, I'm in that class. Mon Ami, that class doesn't start for another four hours." Lafayette says.
"Are you double majoring?" Hercules asks, tilting his head.
I nod once again. "Yeah, it's the only way I can get things done faster." I then look at a clock on the wall. "Anyway, I gotta go. I'll be in the dorm if you guys need me."
I wave at them, earning a few awkward waves back, before turning around and walking back to the dorm room.
On my way back, I feel my shoulder get bumped and then I feel myself flying sideways, running right into the wall.
"What the fuck?" I ask angrily, looking towards whoever pushed me.
"Touch my girlfriend again, and that'll be the last time you ever touch anyone." The male says to me, smirking while doing so.
The female, who was wearing a red sweater and dark jeans, her dark curly hair reaching her mid back, looks down at the ground. "James, please-"
"No, you know what don't touch me." I say as I push the male, I'm assuming who is James, backwards. My push didn't do anything but anger him, as I have no upper body strength, so let's just say the fight didn't turn out well for me.
First day of school and I've already been beat up because of my mouth. I should probably learn how to shut up.
