Thirty Nine - Double Date
"Do we have to go?" I groan as I button up my light blue shirt.
John chuckles. "Yes, Alex. We have to go." He brushes his hair back, working on putting it in his signature ponytail. "Besides, I thought you liked Eliza."
"I do, but I don't like that Francis guy. He gives me the creeps." I shudder and John gives me a small and seemingly forced smile through the mirror. I tilt my head. "Something wrong?"
He turns around to face me. "Oh, it's nothing. I just agree."
I nod and walk over to him, pulling him into a hug. "I don't know, I just don't trust Francis. Ever since she's been with him, she's been super secretive with me."
He sighs. "I understand.. But I really think it's important for us to go on this double date."
I frown and look up at him. "What's even the point of double dates? I don't understand why anyone would want to go on a date with their significant other and two other people."
He shrugs. "I think they're fun with the right people."
"Like who?" I ask, scoffing lightly.
"Well, we went on one with Aaron and Theodosia the other night, that was fun."
I roll my eyes. "Whatever, let's just go."
I try and walk away, but he pulls me back into a hug and stares down into my soul.
Well, not exactly but you get the point.
"What do you want?" I ask, sticking my tongue out at him.
"For you to admit I'm right." He smirks down at me.
I raise an eyebrow. "Why would I do that?"
"Because I am right." He says, shrugging at me. "Plus, if you don't, I may just have to tickle you till you do."
I look up at him. "Tickling? Really Laurens? That's what we're doing?"
He smirks. "Don't try to act tough." His fingers trace up my sides slowly and I tense up. "I know just how ticklish you are."
I huff, knowing he was right. I am extremely ticklish, but also very stubborn. He is aware of both of these facts. I cross my arms and smirk back at him. "Yeah right."
He sighs. "Okay Hamilton, you asked for it." He then starts squeezing and running his fingers along the side of my stomach and I burst into a fit of laughter almost immediately.
He smiles and continued to tickle me and I try to escape, but fail miserably. "John, let me go!" I squeal as I try to wiggle out of his grasp while laughing.
He shakes his head and continues tickling me. "Nope, that's not the deal!" He tells me. "Just admit that I'm right."
"Never!" I say in between laughs.
He continues to tickle me and I stay stubborn until it gets to the point where I can't b r e a t h e (your author has writer's block lol). I finally give up and pull away. "Fine, fine. You were right.." I say, trying to catch my breath.
He smirks and crosses his arms. "Right about what?"
I look at him and playfully roll my eyes. "You're an asshat." I tell him and he chuckles.
"You love me." He gives me a quick kiss before holding my hand and walking to the car.

"Sorry we're late, we had a bit of a... Disagreement." John chuckles as we sit down across from my best friend and the creepy guy.
"Disagreement? What about?" Eliza asks, sounding worried. I look at her face and raise an eyebrow. She's wearing more makeup than normal today. I stare at her face in confusion as John keeps the conversation up.
"Oh, just of who was right." I hear him chuckle. "I won, obviously."
"That's actually not obvious, Alex is super stubborn." Eliza giggles and then looks at me. "Alex, you okay?" She asks.
"Why are you wearing so much makeup today?" I ask bluntly.
She blushes and looks down at her lap shrugging. "I-I just wanted to look nice today.." I heard her mumble.
Francis smiles and grabs her hand, kissing her cheek. "I think you look very pretty." He says. I see her wince slightly, but decide not to say anything.
I look over at John to see him smiling at the two in front of him, but there's something off about it. It seems almost fake, but also very real. I didn't think John was that good at faking emotions, but maybe I was wrong...?
The waiter comes over to take our drink orders, and John and I both order waters. Francis orders a Coke for himself and then he orders a water for Eliza. What. The f u c k.
"Oh, I'm pretty sure Eliza can order for herself, Francis." I say softly. "Besides, she loves to drink Pepsi whenever she goes out."
Eliza looks up at me and then at Francis, who is raising an eyebrow at her. "Fine. Eliza, my dear, did you want Pepsi instead?" He asks in a tone I didn't quite like.
She quickly shakes her head. "No, I'm okay with water. I don't like Pepsi all that much anyway." She says quietly.
Francis smiles and then turns to the waiter. "Yep, so just the Coke and three waters then." The waiter nods and walks off.
I send a quick glare to Francis, but before he notices John puts his hand on my thigh. I look down at it and then up at John, raising an eyebrow.
I see him look at me through his peripheral vision and then shake his head slightly. He still had that smile on his face, though, so it was sending mixed signals.
It seemed that everyone at this table knew what was going on except for me. "So, what are you guys hiding from me?" I ask, crossing my arms and leaning back in my seat.
Everyone looks at me, but each with a different expression. Eliza just looked...Well, she looked helpless. John looked kind of scared, and Francis looked upset. He raised an eyebrow at me.
"What do you mean Ale-"
"I wasn't fucking talking to you, Francis." I glare at him.
John sighed softly and mumbled, "Alex, please-"
"No John, you guys are hiding something from me, I'm not stupid."
I wait for an answer as the three continue to stare at me. I then look to Eliza, because I know for a fact that she can't lie to me. I lean forward and hold her hands carefully, looking her right in the eyes.
"Elizabeth, I need you to tell me what's going on.." I say softly.
John begins kicking me from under the table, but I ignore it as I stare at Eliza, who was avoiding looking at me. Her eyes darted everywhere from the table, to the window, to the wall (I'm sorry), and to Francis. She then looks back at me after Francis had crossed his arms and gave her a stern look.
She opens her mouth to speak, but Francis quickly interrupts her. "You know, as fun as this was, I think it's time for Liz and I to leave." He grabs her hand and stands up, practically pulling her out of her seat. I glare at him for this.
"Excuse me, don't fucking touch her like that." I tell him, standing up. I attempt to get out of the booth, but John grabbed my hand and sat me down, staring at his lap.
"She's my girlfriend, I'll touch her however I want." Francis says quietly as he leans forward towards me. This is when I lost it.
I got up and stood up on the seat, then on the table. I jump down and stand in front of Francis, glaring up at him. "You have no right to touch any woman that way."
"Alex please-!"
"Shut up, Elizabeth!" Francis shouted, slapping her. Ok, I lied before. This is when I lost it.
My adrenaline took over and I tackled him to the ground before standing up and spitting at him. "She deserves so much better than you, you fucking prick."
I grab Eliza's hand and John quickly stands up, holding my other hand. He didn't seem alright, at all. I look to a random couple and smile politely at them. "Can you guys make sure he stays here? I'm going to call the cops or beat his ass, I haven't decided yet."
They slowly nod, seeming afraid as I drag John and Eliza to my car, immediately turning to them. "Are you guys okay? What the hell is going on?"
Eliza starts sobbing and throws herself onto me, hugging me tightly. I don't hesitate to hug her back. I look at John, who had the same expression he wore in the restaurant, which was a very fearful look. Tears pricked the corners of his eyes and I reach my hand and place it on his leg. He looks up at me finally and bites his lip.
"Francis...He abuses Eliza.." John whispers.
