Thirteen - Birthday
"So yeah, that's what I was trying to tell you yesterday, but.."
"But I wouldn't let you...I'm so sorry, John, I don't know why I got so angry." I sigh, stuffing more pancakes into my mouth.
He chuckles awkwardly. "It's okay, I'm sure I hit a sensitive spot for you..."
"I just, I can't believe he would end your college life and ruin your future career if you came out. That seems a bit much, doesn't it?" I ask after swallowing my pancakes.
He nods. "Yeah, that's my dad for you. He doesn't like to do things the easy way, he goes out of his way to ruin people's lives if he thinks they deserve it. I just need to wait until I get a head start in my career, and then I can finally live the life I want."
I smile and reach my hand for him to hold. "I can't wait for that day." I say before eating the last of my pancakes.
John finishes his as well and I stand up and grab both dishes, heading over to the sink and rinsing them before placing them on the counter. My phone then dinged and I look at it to see a message from Eliza.
PureSoul Hey, did you and John make up?
A.Ham Yes, we did, why?
PureSoul Cool I'm making a group chat now.
I look at my phone in confusion before I hear my phone and John's phone ding.
PureSoul has made a group
chat with TurtleLuver,
Baguette, and 6 others
PureSoul Hey guys, birthday dinner for Alex at 7pm tonight at that new restaurant down the road. You all have to be there, no excuses.
A.Ham Eliza, that's not
really necessary...
T.h.e.o. I'm in! I've been wanting to try that place anyway.
SpyontheInside HAPPY BIRTHDAY ALEXANDER
SpyontheInside I'm in btw
Baguette Lol I'm in, too
John looks up at me in shock. "It's your birthday today?" He asks, looking embarrassed.
I blush and nod. "Yeah, I really didn't want to make it a big deal, though.." I rub the back of my neck.
"Dude, you're an adult now!" John chuckles. "Oh, that means I'm not dating a kid anymore. Yay for me." He laughs at his own joke and I blush again.
"Shut up!" I say, chuckling lightly before looking back at the group chat.
YellowMellow Is Alex that one short kid from the Caribbean we met a month ago? If so, I'm in.
Feminist__ Yes Peggy, that's Alex. Count me in.
FeeltheBurrn I'm in if Theo's in
PureSoul Of course you are, Aaron. You're obligated to be in if your girlfriend is in.
T.h.e.o. Liz, for the last time: We. Are. Not. Dating.
SpyontheInside Ouch, you just got friend zoned.
A.Ham Anyway, John and I
are in and I'm muting the chat.
See you guys after my classes.
I set my phone down and then John stands up and grabs my hand, kissing my cheek gently. "I'm taking you out to lunch after Debate class."
I blush. "John, why? My birthday is not that big of a deal, plus we're going to dinner later."
"Because, Alex. Your birthday is a big deal to me, and I wanna spend more time alone with you." He winks before walking into the bedroom.
I sigh and walk in as well. I grab my hoodie and a black shirt and blue jeans. I turn away from John and begin changing and when I turn around John is completely changed as well.
Timeskip brought to you by Alex getting lucky and drawing first position
"Why must you two always argue?" Washington asks, rubbing his temples.
I glare at Thomas before looking over at our professor. "Sir, I don't know what you think the argument is about, but whatever it is, Jefferson started it!" I say quickly, pointing over at him.
"I started it? I literally asked a question!" He says, getting all defensive.
"You asked a question making fun of me! It's like you want to make me angry or something." I say, making weird hand motions because what else would you do when you're frustrated.
He sits back in his chair and crosses his arms. "You know what, Hamilton, I do enjoy making you angry. It's quite funny watching any short person get angry."
I glare at him once again and open my mouth to speak but Washington cuts me off. "Alright you two, knock it off. Class is dismissed early." He sighs and then goes to his desk. "Jefferson, Hamilton, stay a bit after class."
I groan and look over at Jefferson. We did this every other class, and I wasn't quite sure why Washington was giving us so many chances honestly.
John kisses my cheek and then smiles at me. "Try not to ruin your pretty face, I'll be waiting in the hall."
I chuckle as he walks out of the classroom before I walk up to Washington's desk with Jefferson. Once the class is empty, Washington looks up at us.
"So, when are you two going to actually get along?" He asks, looking more annoyed than anything.
"I'm sorry sir, but I don't see that happening in the near future." I say bluntly.
"That's the first and only time I will ever agree with Hamilton." Thomas admits, crossing his arms.
Washington sighs. "You two need to find another place to argue then, because this is not the place to do it."
"All due respect, sir, this is a debate class." I point out.
"Yes, but we're supposed to learn how to properly debate. You two just full on argue, no facts backing up any of it."
I nod silently. "I'm sorry, sir."
Washington pauses before looking at Thomas. "You may be excused, Jefferson. I will see you next class."
Thomas nods and then exits the classroom and I look back down at Washington. "Yes, sir?" I ask, slightly annoyed I was being held back so late.
"Alexander, I've given you many chances because I see you going places, but only if you learn to keep your mouth shut long enough to." He says, raising an eyebrow at me.
I chuckle lightly. "Sir, I'm sorry but I have always worn my opinion on my sleeve, and I don't think I can just change it like that."
"Yes son, I'm aware." He sighs. "Just, it looks like I'm favoring you by giving you so many chances."
"Right, I'm sorry sir." I sigh. "I'll try to keep my mouth shut, but I make no promises."
"You know what, I'll take it." He chuckles. "By the way, happy birthday, son."
I cringe. "Thanks, sir. Also, please don't call me son."
He nods. "Right, sorry s- Alex." He chuckles lightly. "Alright, get out of here." He says, smiling.
I nod and walk out, meeting up with John. "Alright, you ready?" John asks.
"Yeah, let's get this over with." I chuckle.
John holds my hand and gasps dramatically. "Get it over with? This is a date, Alexander. How rude."
"It's a birthday date. I hate my birthday." I chuckle as we walk to some nice cafe a ways away from the college.
"Yeah, well, I'll use any excuse to go on a date with you." He says, winking at me and I blush.
God, he's such a flirt.
