Fourty Three - I Do
Oh God, it's been awhile.
Where do I even begin?
I guess we could just start off with everyone and everything new with them. First, the Schuyler Sisters.
Angelica's the most powerful and well known woman in Manhattan due to the success of the New York Post. She was so successful she passed the CEO title to someone else and now works with a company to help empower woman.
Peggy finally told everyone she was dating Maria Lewis and they had moved in together. They got a small dog who doesn't like me very much, but John says it's okay because we'll never get a dog anyway.
Eliza started dating Thomas Paine and she had a baby boy a couple months ago. Francis is technically the father, but Thomas already agreed to help parent him and is working on adopting him as his son. She named him Philip Schuyler, after her father and the three of them are happily living in the mansion he left behind for her and her sisters.
Next up is Lafayette and Hercules. They moved to Paris after getting married here so everyone could be there. They are very happy together but have agreed neither of them want the responsibility of a kid or pet or even a plant. They've agreed to give John and I a tour of Paris for our honeymoon, so we'll be visiting them again soon.
Aaron was made the head of our company after our old boss was found guilty of tax fraud. He actually runs the company very well if I do say so myself. Him and Theodosia are expecting another child, and TJ (as everyone calls her) just turned one a few weeks ago.
Martha and Davina are still just dating, mainly because they agreed not to get too serious until they graduate. They still live in the same dorm and seem perfect for each other in a weird way. Martha is outgoing and amitous and Davina is shy and introverted.
As for John and I, well, our life is almost perfect. I don't believe anything is perfect, but our relationship gets pretty damn close to it. John is the best fiancee anyone could ask for. He's always there for me when I'm sad, there to celebrate with me when I'm happy, and he hasn't left me. That alone makes him better than everyone else I loved.
We moved into a two bedroom house together. John decided my apartment was too small so we had to move. I think that's the richness in him, but I guess I can't blame him.
We talked about maybe adopting through foster care one day, but not until we're sure we're ready for that kind of pressure.
Anyway, now that everything's caught up, I gotta go. I'm getting married!
I set down my pen and journal and smile brightly as I slide it under the bed. I go and open the door after someone knocks on it to reveal the Schuyler Sisters behind the door. I asked Eliza to help me get ready, but insisted on bringing "back up." I'm still not sure if I should be offended by that or not.
Hercules and Lafayette had agreed to help John get ready, and the rest of the guests were to show up at the park we were having it in.
John and I both invited our dads and they both refused to come, but John's mother and sister are coming and that's the extent of family, seeing as James is my only other living family member. Luckily, Washington was able to come to the wedding so I had some sort of family there. I'm basically his adopted son now.
"Ok, so obviously your hair needs to be slick back into a low ponytail, middle part. What do you think girls?" Eliza asks as she sits me down in one of the kitchen chairs. The other girls just nod in response and Eliza smiles. "Oh gosh, I can't believe you're getting married!"
"Yeah, me neither." Angelica says while crossing her arms. "I did not see you marrying anyone, no offense."
I shrug. "None taken. I wasn't planning on getting into a relationship, much less married."
"Shush! We have to get started we only have two hours!" Peggy says and the other two nod and all go into their purses.
"Only two hours?" I ask.
"Shush, we need all the time we can get." Peggy snaps before pulling out a brush and brushing through my hair.

"Okay, you ready to see?" Eliza asks me.
"I don't know, I'm almost scared." I say, chuckling a little. I have never worn makeup before, but they insisted on doing light makeup and a "natural look."
"Don't be scared, silly!" Peggy rolls her eyes. They hand me a small mirror and I look at my reflection in it and smile.
"Wow..Is that me?" I ask.
"No, it's your next door neighbor- Yes it's you!" Peggy exclaims. She was overly excited about this.
Eliza giggles. "You've seriously never worn makeup before?" She asks.
"No, I've never worn makeup before..This is kind of weird.." I mumble.
"Well, you may have to wear makeup more often." Angelica tells me and I roll my eyes.
"Thanks, Angelica." I say sarcastically and she shrugs.
Meanwhile..
John's POV
"Is all of this hairspray really necessary?" I say as I cough from inhaling the toxic fumes.
"Shh, of course it is!" Lafayette scolds as he continues to spray my hair. "Your hair is not allowed to be messy on the day of your wedding!"
I groan. "Herc, can you tell him my hair already has enough hairspray?"
"I don't know, John. Your hair is still very frizzy."
"Hey!" I smack his arm and he chuckles.
"All joking aside," Lafayette says, putting the hairspray away. "John, you are getting married today. Are you ready for that?"
I nod and smile brightly in the mirror. "Of course I am. I love Alex."
I look through the mirror and see Laf and Herc both smiling at me, their arms wrapped around each other. Hercules looked up at Lafayette and rested his head on his shoulder.
"Laf, I wanna get married again." He said. "That was fun."
Lafayette rolls his eyes and I chuckle. "Mon amour, we can't afford another wedding. Besides, it's less special if you do it more than once."
Hercules sighs dramatically and I snap my fingers. "Um, hello, it's my wedding day can we pay attention to me?" I ask, chuckling.
Laf grabs the hairspray can and holds it up to show me. "I will use more of this."

"Mon ami, you look parfait." Laf says in his French accent. (Perfect)
I smile and look in the mirror. "Thanks guys." I take a deep breath in and then frown.
"Something wrong?" Hercules asks.
"What if...What if this is all too soon? I mean, we still have many issues to deal with and we kinda of argue a bit and what if he just doesn't want to marry me anymore. What if we're married for a week and then we decide we hate each other? What if-"
"Laurens, stop it." Lafayette interrupts. "Take a deep breath, stop worrying so much. Alex loves you and you love Alex."
I take another deep breath and then nod. "Right, you're right." I look at my watch. "Oh shoot, we gotta go!"

Alex's POV
"Alright, are you ready, son?" Washington asks as he brushes something off my shoulder.
I sigh and nod. "Yeah..I think so."
He smiles down at me. "Alex, I'm so proud of you. You've come so far from when you first came to America."
I smile back up at him and then hug him. "Thank you for everything, Washington."
"There's no need to thank me." He says, rubbing my back. "I love you, son."
I smile. "I love you too, Dad."
We pull away and I take a sneak peek out at the wedding. There I could see John at the alter, smiling but seeming nervous. Eliza, the maid of honor, had already walked up there along with Lafayette, the best man. We decided not to have any bridesmaids or groomsmen, since we wanted it to be a sorta small and simple wedding.
Our flower girl was supposed to be TJ, but she threw a fit at the last minute and ended up falling asleep, but it was fine.
I scan the crowd once more and then turn to Washington. "Ok, I'm ready."
He smiles and then links his arm in mine, waiting for the music to cue before we walk down the aisle together. It was a little weird, seeing as this is usually the girl walking down the aisle, but we flipped a coin to see who would walk down. I lost clearly.
But none of that mattered once I got up to the alter and stood in front of John. I smile at him and he smiles back. "You look amazing in that suit." I tell him quietly.
"You do too. But I can't wait to get you out of it." He winks as he whispers back, causing me to blush madly.
"We are gathered here today to celebrate the joining of marriage between John Laurens and Alexander Hamilton." The person standing a little behind us says, interrupting our quiet conversation.
We continue with the ceremony and get all the way to the vows without any interruptions luckily.
"Alexander, do you take John Laurens to be your lawfully wedded husband, through sickness and health, for as long as you both shall live?" He asks.
I smile brightly and nod. "Yeah, I do. Of course I do."
"John, do you take Alexander Hamilton to be your lawfully wedded husband, through sickness and health, for as long as you both shall live?"
John hesitates and then looks around the audience. I panic internally.
Oh shit I knew it.
He doesn't love me.
He's going to leave me. This is it.
I'll never be happy again.
I should've known bet-
I'm interrupted by John laughing. "Of course I do."
I pout at him and he just smiles back at me. "I love you." He mouths to me.
"Are there any objections? Speak now, or forever hold your peace."
John and I look away from each other and to the audience to see if anyone would actually object. There were no objections, so the man just continued. "Alright then. I pronounce you husband and husband. You may now kiss the groom."
John smiles and pulls me into a deep kiss, and I kiss him back. There was cheering heard from the sides of us, most likely from Lafayette and Hercules.
The night went on perfectly and by the end of it there was only me, John, Laf, Herc, Eliza, Peggy, and Thomas Paine left. Lafayette and Hercules had obviously been very responsible and had a couple drinks.
Oh no one's going to believe that. No, they had quite a few drinks and are currently drunkenly singing and dancing to "I Wanna Dance With Somebody."
John had convinced me to try champagne and it actually didn't taste horrible. I only had a couple drinks of it, since I still have a no alcohol tolerance.
Eliza came up to me, smiling brightly. "Congratulations you two. Now, if you don't mind, Thomas and I have to get going. Philip is getting cranky."
I hug her. "Thanks for coming." I say. I then give Thomas a nod and wave bye to both him and Philip. Philip just pouted and turned his head towards his mom.
"See you later!" Thomas says before wrapping an arm around Eliza and walking towards the exit.
John kisses my cheek. "I'm going to call an Uber for those three." He says, pointing towards the two males and Peggy, who just now joined them in screaming the song at the top of their lungs. I nod and chuckle. "Alright, I'll start getting everything else cleaned up." I tell him.
John goes over to the three and I go around and pick up the trash lying around. We had cleaned up a couple hours ago, but not everything could be done 'till everyone was gone.

John's POV
"Alex, hurry up and finish packing! We have to leave early in the morning." I yell from the bedroom.
"John, our flight is at 2 pm tomorrow. We'll be fine!" He shouts back.
I facepalm. "Have you done any packing?"
He comes into the room and smiles at me and I roll my eyes. "Of course you haven't."
"Hey, you know you love me." He says as he comes over and sits down next to me. He starts tracing my jacket. "You know, you really do look good in a suit. We should dress up more often."
I chuckle and face him. "And why would we do that? I like when we dress casually."
He shrugs. "Yeah, but you look so grown up in a tux. So sophisticated." He says before giggling.
I chuckle and lean in to kiss him, causing my phone to fall off the bed. I sigh and reach for it, but Alex kicked it under the bed. "Pay attention to me." He whines.
I stick my tongue out at him and then hop off the bed and search under the bed. I grab my phone and then see a book under the bed with it. I grab it out of curiosity and stand up, looking at the cover.
"Wait, don't read that!" Alex panics. I look up at him and smirk.
"Why not? What is it, your diary?" I tease.
He frowns and stands up. "No, it's not a diary. Just give it to me, please.."
I see that this means a lot to him, but I really want to know what it is. I open up to the first page. I begin to read aloud.
"Let's see..
"'I don't know how to start this, but I did it. I'm in America. I'm finally in the country where I can finally do what I want to do. Whatever that may be.'"
I look up at Alex and raise an eyebrow. "Alex, what is this?"
"When I came here, I started a journal so I would never forget anything about how much better it is here than Nevis.." He says kind of quietly.
I smile. "Am I in here?" I ask.
He blushes and nods. "Yeah, but don't read past like the second page. You got annoying after that."
I raise an eyebrow. "Now I wanna read it." I flip past a couple pages and he freaks out and jumps up to his feet.
He runs to me, but I hold the book up and begin reading before he can grab it. "'America isn't all that great. Don't get me wrong, it's one hundred times better than Nevis, but everyone here is outrageously annoying. This kid named Thomas Jefferson is the most idiotic person I've ever met. He's immature and arrogant and blah blah blah' Where am I in this exactly?" I ask him.
He crosses his arms. "If I say you're not in there will you give me my journal back?"
I shrug. "Nah, I'm going to find it." I flip to the next page. "Aha, here it is.
"'As for my roommate, John Laurens. He's super cute and very sweet, and I thought I may have been crushing on him, but he makes it very difficult for me to actually admit it. He's not straight, he made that very clear by everything he does, but he's always hanging out with his friends. I think he may be in one of those multiple people relationship things with Lafayette and Mulligan, but I'm not sure.'"
I look down at him and burst out laughing. "You thought I was cute?"
"Shut up John, that was like six years ago. Give me my journal!"
"Hold on, hold on, hold on. One more. Where's the part where I return?" I ask, flipping through the pages.
He blushes and tries to reach for the book again, but I don't let him. I find the date of his birthday and then flip a couple pages past, since he couldn't have written in it while he was in the hospital.
"Oh, here we are. 'John Laurens came back. He's back. He's in New York. After. Five. Years. He apparently went to South Carolina unwillingly and got engaged to Carrie. How the fuck am I supposed to deal with this? I thought I had moved past him, but I saw him and I realized..'" I pause and smile. "'I realized there was no moving past John Laurens."
I look down at him to see him trying to cover his blushing face, but failing miserably. "Aw, don't be embarrassed. I think it's cute." I tell him, pulling him into a kiss.
"Are you sure? It's kind of cringy and really embarrassing hearing it out loud..." He looks up at me. "Did your feelings change at all? Be honest with me."
"Honestly," I start. "I love you."
The End

And there you have it folks. This has been a great book to write and I've enjoyed sharing it with the few of you who took the time to read it. If you enjoyed my writing and want more Lams, I do have another book hopefully coming out soon. It's still a major work in progress and may not be published for a while (although I may publish the prologue soon), but when it comes out you guys can check it out.
The book will be called "To My Dearest, Enemy" and will be a soulmate AU where whatever you put on your arm appears on your soulmates arm. I love these AUs and I think it'll be fun to write, so stay tuned!
Side note: I don't have the energy to spell check it because it's such a long chapter soooo I'll do that later.
