Renaissance art history
mankind has been making art for at least 10,000 years.
during the European Renaissance, artist began taking interest in drawing or painting the human body realistically, using shading, light and shadow. Fresco paintings (wall paintings on wet plaster) were becoming common as well as tempera paints that were actually mixed with egg yolks. not until we got closer to the end of the Renaissance did oil paintings become more popular.
the most popular artists during the Renaissance were Leonardo Da Vinci, Michelangelo and Raphael in Italy, and Durer in Germany.
Leonardo Da Vinci created painting like the commonly known Mona Lisa
and the last supper.
Michelangelo created sculptures such as the Peita
and painted the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican, which is essentially a bunch of naked people (sorry, I know all art has some meaning I'm just saying without that meaning, that's what it is).
Raphael painted the pope's apartments, which were also in the Vatican.
(pretty nice apartments...)
Durer Created engravings like knight, death and the devil.
(creepy)
and the best part is that millions of people still admire these works today.
