Yang Jungwon was a cyber investigator. He has nothing to do with anything that was outside his field. But one person seems to break that principle without having to do much with ease. He should be annoyed by it. But, he wasn't.
In fact, he was quite drawn to it.
There was no telling, why. It was just there. That longing that seems to envelop his very being was too great to ignore. After all, isn't that why he approached the boy first?
He didn't understand it, the fascination, the adoration, and the overall existence of the younger male made his heart clench in a way that was suffocating in every best way possible. Sometimes it hurt so much that he wanted to hug the male tight and never let go.
But there was another ache that constantly came with being in the sniper's presence. The ache of rejection.
Jungwon was not one to be a delusional person, but he knew, he knew they have known each other before. A past life or something, but they have. He just had that gut feeling bubbling at the pit of his stomach every time they met eyes.
Jungwon had always been the type to follow his heart, so he did what his heart told him to, get to know him better. It doesn't look like it's working obviously. Upset, Jungwon returned to doing his work, being the bait for the lure.
He walked up the stairs of the abandoned factory where he had fixed a meeting with the killer. This killer was dangerous but not smart. He doesn't think that this man would end up a serial killer. If anything he was a budding murderer.
On his first try, the man had killed a priest. For his second try, he killed a stripper. For his third try, he killed a beggar. For his fourth try, he killed a stranger who was a pedophile about to rape a girl.
It all looked random at first, but there was one thing common in all these murders, the reason behind them. The priest was a scammer who lured women into his chapel and sold them off. The stripper was a woman who stole from her boss for years and had him falsely arrested for SA. The beggar was a father who lost his all in a gamble and abused his daughter.
He killed the ones who had wronged others.
When he reached the place he found that the killer hadn't arrived yet. He waited for a while, thinking about things (read as Nishimura Riki and why he is so perfect) that bug him. Soon enough, there are footsteps climbing up the stairs.
-
Nishimura Riki was a man of very few words. It's not that he doesn't know how to talk. He just doesn't like talking to people. The only person he actually spoke to was Hwang Hyunjin, his cousin. The third family line was removed. They were distant cousins who met when Ni-Ki joined the force.
Yes, force. Nishimura Riki was a military sniper before he was appointed to the criminal investigation department. He spent countless sleepless nights on top of the observation tower hugging his rifle for dear life wishing and praying that the other side was asleep and was not hatching a plan to attack them.
He had spent three years in the countryside watching the birds and hills and mountains. Okay now that was complete childish imagination but Ni-Ki had not just seen the mountains and views there. He had seen dead bodies, blood, and the constant feeling of danger that put you on edge leaving you sleepless at night.
Nothing was certain when you are at the border with a no-to-less guarantee that you would come back home alive. Not like he had anyone to come home to. His parent's whereabouts were unknown to him. Not like he cared anymore.
When he came to Seoul he was mesmerized by the tall buildings that lay in the city. He was amazed by how the people seemed to be going about their day so carefree without a single knowledge or care as to how they had sacrificed their own peaceful minds and sleep for them. They seemed so relaxed when Ni-Ki spent three years in absolute tension and fear for his life at the border.
There was no guarantee that a war wouldn't break out and he would come back alive. The people here slept so peacefully making Ni-Ki jealous. They slept without care while he still couldn't shake off the feeling of being on edge and that someone was planning an attack on him. How unfair.
He resented the city people for it. A reason why he didn't want anything to do with the detective in front of him. He grew up in the luxury of being protected while Riki struggled to breathe properly every day at the border. This man slept safe while Riki risked his life there. How very unfair.
"Leave me alone." he had snapped coldly before walking away to get positioned at the building from where he was supposed to shoot. Hyunjin who had been on the other side of the building gave him a shake of the head for his behavior toward the detective before.
He ignored it and arranged the rifle to a position more suitable for him to shoot. When everything was set they both waited. Waited for the opening. The killer had taken their bait and was supposed to show up anytime now.
Nishimura Riki was no stranger to patience either. Though on edge patience was a gift that helped him survive the hell the three years had been.
His patience however seemed to slip thin every time the dimpled detective made any attempts to get him to talk. He doesn't want to talk. Especially with him in specific.
Nishimura Riki was not dense and he knew why the boba ball of a human wanted to talk to him and get close. And he refused to acknowledge it. Not because he had any feelings for him, but because the boy made him lose his mind to a level that made him see red and strangle the shit out of him.
When he caught sight of the boy walking up the stairs to the top floor room the killer was called to he scowled. He didn't move from his spot and continued observing as his job would demand of him and mind you, Hyunjin was doing the same. When they caught sight of the killer dressed in black their back facing the snipers he watched as Jungwon's face changed with the emotions he felt.
Only because the killer's back was to them and Jungwon was facing them while the two stood face-to-face.
When the killer moved forward with a knife in his hands with the intent to harm Nishimura Riki lost all the patience that heaven had bestowed upon him. His fingers pulled the trigger before he could process. The bullet shot forward with a speed that made it unnoticeable to the human eye and pierced through the wall hitting the killer in the back of his knees.
The panicked look on Jungwon's face made him grip the rifle tighter as his fingers twitched around the trigger with fury. The killer had fallen on top of Jungwon dragging the detective down with him as he raised the knife to lodge itself in his shoulder. With a glance at Hyunjin, he pulled the trigger.
Hyunjin's bullet made contact with the blade that sent it flying towards the wall across the room while his own pierced the killer's ears and into the ground right beside Jungwon's head. Two meters away.
A warning.
The detective hurriedly used this element of surprise as his chance to push the killer off of him as he got up and ran to take the knife from the corner of the room. He opened the door and ran down the hall while the culprit ran after him like a bloody murderer. And I mean that in a literal sense.
The plan didn't include Jungwon getting injured. His shoulder seems to have been wounded when he was taken down with the killer's weight above him. They had played chase as the detective led the killer to the trap. The killer was soon ambushed and they fought him and arrested him.
The detective had thanked him after getting treated to which Ni-Ki stared at him blankly. The boy was reckless and Ni-Ki knew that the very moment he volunteered himself to be the bait. He had walked away without saying anything and that was their very last meeting before they were appointed for the case of a lunatic that was the 'oX1' killer.
Riki had of course taken part in venting his anger out on the killer later in the confines of the interrogation room away from the frustrating boba of a human named Yang Jungwon.

There was nothing wrong in giving someone coffee. It's not like the person who this coffee is supposed to be received, knows he is the one that delivered it. Nishimura Riki saw no harm in it. Absolutely not.
If he simply stood behind him silently and unnoticed there was nothing wrong. If he stiffly turned and walked away after spotting the boba ball's comrade, there was nothing wrong with it. Absolutely fucking not.
-
If Yang Jungwon wanted to find out something, he would. If he wanted to know who brought the coffee to him, he would. It doesn't matter if he has to threaten the caffeine.
He focused the glare more pointedly on the cup, his lips pursed in a thin line as he pressured it to tell him.
'Who brought you to me?'
'I'm sorry, but I'm of no help to you!'
He frowned as he questioned it more, now persistent. His patience running thin.
'WHO put you on my table?'
'I really am sorry, sir. But I really can't tell you!'
He pouted at the caffeine in his hands as he humphed at it. The mental conversation in his brain was of no help. The coffee refused to tell him anything! How outrageous!
He quietly sipped his coffee, a pout still rested on his lips.
And if three people saw him doing that, they didn't say anything.

Date: Sometime in the future.
He was so fucking annoying. Ni-Ki was about to burst. With an irritated sigh, he gave the male beside him a stink eye. "What the fuck are you doing?!" he hissed.
You might be wondering 'What the fuck is happening right?
Let me brief you on it. Nishimura Riki, Yang Jungwon, Choi Soobin, and Yang Jeongin were out on a mission. They are here to gather information. Information was stored in a computer inside the building in front of them. Ni-Ki and Jungwon were waiting in the car for Soobin and I.N to give them the 'all clear' signal so they could sneak inside and steal the information.
The cat just blinked at him, his lips once again jutted out in a small pout. "I'm sorry I just wanted to help," He said quietly. Ni-Ki pinned him with an unimpressed stare. "If you want to help, then stay the fuck down. Stop making it difficult for us by looking over."
"But Ni-Ki, it's dangerous! They might get hurt-" The sniper cut him off. "Exactly why you shouldn't bother with them." Jungwon blinked at him before he slowly but visibly deflated. His signature pout back on his lips before he looked away and stayed quiet. It didn't take a genius to realize that he was upset.
Ni-Ki felt a little bad for snapping at him but before he could say anything they heard loud arguing outside. Ni-Ki glanced over, Soobin and Jeongin were arguing with a thug outside. He nudged the sulking kitten beside him before carefully slipping out of the car. Jungwon was about to open his side of the door when Ni-Ki grabbed his wrist. "What the fuck are you doing? Do you want to get caught before even going inside?" he gritted out.
Jungwon confusedly shook his head as 'no'.
Ni-Ki sighed before he tugged the older by the wrist he was holding in his grasp. Jungwon silently followed as they got behind the car. They hunched over behind it while the sniper looked around for CCTV cameras set around the building. Considering this was a paper company he knew there were bound to be cameras here.
Finding nothing he looked back at the two arguing officers in front. Who, unfortunately, were his hyungs. When a fistfight broke out between the three and the ones who were on watch stepped in, he immediately seized the other beside him and sneaked away inside the building.
The two hurried up the stairs sneakily as Ni-Ki attacked the guards' pressure points. When he made sure, everyone was just unconscious and alive, he went back towards Jungwon and pushed open the door. Nobody was inside.
The two rushed towards the computer sitting at the desk. Jungwon puggled in the pen drive in the CPU while Ni-Ki turned the PC on. The two, impatiently waited for it to start working before Jungwon started doing what he was the best at. Hacking and coding.
He typed several keys on the keyboard and clicked away from the mouse while Ni-Ki stood guard beside him. A few seconds later, green-lettered codes and numbers started running down the screen in a vertical order.
He had hacked into the system base. Yes! Now all he had to do was transfer every single piece of information to the pen drive that was slotted inside the CPU. He typed on a few more keys on the keyboard before clicking on 'Enter'. A tab with a loading sign appeared and soon enough 3% of the data was shown to be finished transferring.
While he was concentrating on transferring the data, the sniper beside him had been observing him work. He had noticed by now, that the sulky kitten had the habit of biting his lips when concentrating on something. He was tempted to tell him not to do it and pull the abused lip to safety with his thumb.
"Did you do it?" The sniper asked. His thoughts seemed to have been flowing in a very different direction nowadays. "Yeah, it's almost done," Jungwon replied. They watched the screen as the green line stretched bit by bit.
The 3% turned 13%, then 26%, then 37%, then 45%, then 56%, then 63%, then 78%,-
Jungwon jumped when he felt a hand on his shoulder. He looked beside him and saw Ni-Ki staring at the door seriously. "Someone's coming" he informed. Jungwon snapped his attention back to PC only to see an 83%.
Ni-Ki slowly reached for his gun and stood there. Jungwon was starting to get anxious, the 87% on the screen not helping. It was taking too long! When the number stopped for a bit at 94% he started sweating. Ni-Ki was still by his side, though on high alert with his sharp cold gaze fixed on the closed door.

Jungwon's breath hitched when he heard footsteps walking down the hall they had come from.

When the footsteps got louder and near to the door he instinctively reached for the young sniper's sleeve. He grasped it tightly when he felt the other squeezed his hand reassuringly. Ni-Ki was here, and he won't let him get hurt.

The doorknob turned and the door opened. "Jungwon, I want you to squat down in 3..." Ni-Ki whispered. Jungwon obeyed as they watched the door open. "1... 2... 3!" Jungwon immediately ducked down when Ni-Ki fired a shot. It was returned with another shot soon enough. Jungwon flinched at the sound before he stretched up a little and saw the file had transferred successfully.
Loaded...100%
He snatched the pen drive when Ni-Ki fired another shot. Soon enough the room was filled with the sounds of gunshots. Jungwon absolutely hated this part. He hated the sound, he hated it with every fiber of his being.
He clutched the pen drive tight to his chest as he crawled under the desk to hide. He tucked his knees and buried his face against them. More shots were fired before it fell silent and he heard a soft curse before he heard a man squat behind the desk while refilling his gun.
By the sound of it, the other party seemed to be doing the same thing. When he heard hurried footsteps with another loud shot, he trembled. Tears welled in his eyes as he whimpered. His breathing turned heavy as he gasped for air.
He can't breathe. He can't breathe, he can't breathe, he can't breathe, he can't breathe, he-
"Jungwon, hey, hey, hey, it's alright. It's alright." Big soothing hands reached for him as the shots continued. "Come on, Jungwon, breathe. It's alright. I'm here. Nothing will happen to you. I'm here." He whimpered again when another shot was fired.
"Shh, wonie, It's alright. I'm here. It'll be over soon." Comforting circles were made on his forearms. The caressing would turn into a reassuring squeeze whenever a whimper would escape his lips. When he heard a wail from I.N, Jungwon panicked. The hands left him as more shots were fired.
He took in several deep breaths to calm down. Someone could be hurt. He couldn't sit here and panic while someone was bleeding out. The least he could do would be to stop the bleeding. Or lessen it.
He continued taking deep breaths, flinching every time a shot was fired. He peeked from his knees just as Nishimura Riki ducked down to avoid a flying bullet. The two met eyes before Ni-Ki took a peek above the desk to look over the situation. The man and Soobin both seemed to be out of bullets as he changed his magazine.
"It'll be over soon." the younger reassured when the older male reached for him as he was preparing to shoot. He reached a hand out when he pulled the barrel. Ni-Ki caught it halfway through as he soothingly rubbed his thumb on the inside of the older's palm. "You'll be alright. I'm here." Jungwon was still looking from his knees with half of his face hidden behind it.
He then pulled away and started shooting again.
-
When Ni-Ki saw Jungwon crawling out from under his safe spot, he was torn between feeling relief and having a heart attack. Therefore, he did the only thing that was relevant, he covered for Jungwon making sure he would not be caught up in the crossfire.
"Yang Jungwon, if you don't have a good reason for whatever you are doing, I swear to god, I'm going to shoot you in the head myself," Ni-Ki swore. Jungwon didn't answer him, he sneaked around the table walking towards the left side of the room where an injured Jeongin was.
"Jeongin, Hyung?" he gasped out. The man was gritting and clenching his jaw while he squeezed at his arm. Jungwon ducked and covered his head with his arms when a bullet was fired at him. A whimper left him when the porcelain vase shattered behind him.
"Jungwon, what are you doing?! Take cover! Hurry!" Soobin yelled from across the room when he saw the younger frozen in the middle. Jungwon hurriedly crawled towards I.N and slipped in behind the photocopy machine with him.
"Hyung, you're hurt!" Jungwon panicked. "No shit," Jeongin muttered. Jungwon looked around for something to wrap the wound with in order to minimize the blood loss. When he didn't find anything he took off his own jacket that we had been wearing. He hastily tied it to the wound and made sure it was tight enough to keep all the blood in without hurting the man.
When he finished he reassured Jeongin, "Hold tight Hyung. We'll be done here soon." It was pretty ironic coming from him but at the moment he didn't care. The man however chuckled before he reached out his healthy arm to ruffle the younger's hair. "You're one to say."
It went on for a few more seconds before another groan was heard from behind the sofa not far from where they were. After a few silent seconds with the clinking of guns, the last shot was fired. When Jungwon heard approaching footsteps, he peeked out from behind the photocopy machine.
Ni-Ki and Soobin crouched down beside the injured informant and helped him up. "You're fucked up pretty bad, I.N.," Soobin said. They both slugged each of the injured male's arms on their shoulders and started walking. Ni-Ki and Soobin were definitely taller than him so it made his arm a little uncomfortable.
"Ow," a hiss escaped him when his wound stretched. "You alright?" Soobin asked his other hand immediately reaching for the wound. "Yeah, it's just you guys are tall." The three people made a confused noise at that, to which Jeongin rolled his eyes. "The two of you are tall which means I'll have to stretch my arms in order to put them around your shoulders."
They all 'Ah'ed softly before Jungwon stepped forward. "Let me help him. We're almost the same height so it might be easier." The two didn't complain and simply handed the injured male to him. "Are you sure, you can take his weight?"
Jungwon smiled lightly and replied, "Yes, Hyung. Don't worry." The three walked out of the building and towards the jeep that was parked earlier. When Jungwon had settled the injured informant and closed the door, Ni-Ki grabbed his arms and pulled him behind the jeep.
"The next time you pull that shit, I'm going to leave you to die." Jungwon blinked owlishly at the now retreating back of the younger as he processed the words. What the hell does he mean by that? What shit is he talking about?
He shrugged and got into the passenger's seat as Ni-Ki started the car. Jungwon looked out the window as he slowly drifted off. It had been a long day today. He sighed and shut his eyes close, missing the glance Nishimura Riki passed him and the way his lips twitched.
Behind them, Soobin and I.N looked at them with a knowing smile.
