Chapter 45

Wednesday 15 days for the Full Moon Festival

Soft lips touched his and Wei Ying smiled, feeling as happy as he could be. Those wandering lips...they kissed each eyelid before exploring a path down his nose to his lips again, and Wei Ying gasped as those sharp teeth bit down.

Immediately, the opening of his mouth meant it was a free-for-all, as Lan Zhan invaded, his tongue hot and heavy. This was a duel, a fight, a dance, an escape as Wei Ying kissed him back with everything he had.

Kissing Lan Zhan was the best way to wake up.

He smiled sleepily, opening his eyes...and gasped.

Lan Zhan looked even more beautiful this morning and Wei Ying remembered why. He was still wearing the makeup that Mo XuanYu had put on his face, and right now...Lan Zhan looked like an Ice King, ready to wage war upon unsuspecting traitors.

The golden eyeshadow only enhanced his amber eyes, and Mo XuanYu had given him plain back eyeliner. Everything else was minimal and rightly so, because Lan Zhan had been extremely brave by agreeing to sit in his chair and have someone touch his face.

Lan Zhan...who normally hated anyone touching him at all...

"My love...you look ravishing still..."

Suddenly awake, Wei Ying pushed him down and attacked his lips, loving the way they tasted. Whatever lip gloss Lan Zhan had on...it was divine and Wei Ying couldn’t get enough of it.

Lan Zhan let his hands wander and Wei Ying jolted as his large, warm palms caressed his back, pressing him closer.

"It really doesn't come off..." Wei Ying said, his voice full of surprised wonder. And then he giggled.

Lan Zhan loved that sound.

More than any other, it was his favourite.

"We're gonna have to look like this until it comes off naturally." He laughed.

"A-Yu has waterproof makeup wipes. But...I shall not use them today." Lan Zhan admitted, his ears turning pink.

"You won't?" Wei Ying asked him, utterly delighted with this new side of his boyfriend.

"Mn. I believe it will add to his confidence...and Wei Ying looks particularly beautiful today." He smiled and thought it was adorable when Wei Ying whined and hid his face in Lan Zhan’s neck.

"Fine...neither shall I...I'll also keep it on." But he sounded proud.

Wei Ying snuggled closer, and smiled as those strong arms tightened around him.

"We made him happy...didn't we?" Wei Ying whispered, closing his eyes.

"Mn. It was very...kind of Wei Ying and a genius move. We will water his confidence so that it grows big and strong." Lan Zhan said, softly.

Wei Ying heard his voice rumble up through his chest right next to his ear and he felt so lucky that Lan Zhan was here...that their family was safe.

"Yesterday...I was terrified. So scared...that I wouldn't be able to protect him...our boy. I was ready to bite that guy...anything, yell, scream for help..." Wei Ying sniffed, reliving it in his head.

"A-Yu sent me a text. Xiongzhang was being clingy...so I hung up and came immediately." Lan Zhan kissed the top of his head. "Wei Ying was so brave!"

"I didn't feel brave..." Wei Ying laughed, wetly. "Thank you for being there...for stopping him from hurting us."

"No need. I would, always." Lan Zhan promised.

When he had seen that stranger actually try to hurt his family, two of the sweetest people around, Lan Zhan had seen red. He hadn’t stopped to think about anything except getting rid of the threat, and making sure he paid for thinking it was possible.

Perhaps his instincts had kicked in, but Lan Zhan had somehow known who that huge man was, and his second thoughts had remembered Mo XuanYu's bruises and the fact that this man was responsible for doing that. Hurting his people.

Lan Zhan had been filled with such a strong hatred, it had stolen his breath and made him want to beat the crap out of him, who was just a big, fat bully. Picking on those who were weaker, just because he could...?

Not on Lan Zhan’s watch.

"You know...it was a surprise to me...when A-Yu said Jin Guanshan was his dad. I know he's not really involved in the lives of his kids...probably got enough for a soccer team by now...but...but do you think..." Wei Ying lifted his beautiful face up so those gorgeous starlight eyes were shimmering with a bright idea.

"Mn?" Lan Zhan wasn't really thinking...how could he, when he had something much better to do?

He felt as if it was the best pastime...looking at this stunning man, who seemed to have no idea how captivating he was.

Not just his beautiful eyes, gorgeous though they were...but the rosy blush on the curve of his cheeks was simply adorable. His thick lashes, enhanced by A-Yu's magic made Wei Ying look like a fae.

"So what do you think, hmm?" Wei Ying looked at him expectantly.

Lan Zhan realised rather belatedly that while he had been drowning in his beauty, Wei Ying was actually asking him something.

And it might have been important.

Could he get away with it? He was gonna try.

"I think whatever Wei Ying thinks. Wei Ying is very clever." Lan Zhan added, smiling.

"You didn't hear a single word I said, did you?" Wei Ying demanded, not fooled for even a second.

To his abject horror, Lan Zhan’s ears betrayed him and he felt them burning. Shamefully, he shook his head.

"I did not." He confessed, feeling terrible about it, because how could he ignore the perfect specimen of a man...just because he was too astonished that Wei Ying, so beautiful and bright like a star, could possibly be interested in him? It felt unreal. "Wei Ying is too attractive...I cannot do anything else except look."

Gosh! This was mortifying...

"Do you mean to tell me that you weren't listening because you were staring at me?" Wei Ying asked him incredulously. He was both amazed and embarrassed at that.

"Mn. Beautiful." Lan Zhan added.

He felt as if Wei Ying had cast a spell over him and now he couldn’t see anything, or do anything that didn't remind him of his Wei Ying.

"Lan Zhaaan!! You have to warn me before you say anything like that!" He whined and hid his face again.

It felt hot against Lan Zhan’s neck and he smiled at Wei Ying’s reaction.

"Anything important should be told like this." Lan Zhan added. "Otherwise, no guarantees on attention. This is a warning."

"Fine! What I said before was, Shijie is married to the peacock. Jin Guanshan's son...the legitimate one. What do you think about us contacting him? If he wants to meet our boy? Or if our A-Yu wants to meet him?" Wei Ying's voice was muffled, his lips pressed tightly to Lan Zhan’s smooth skin.

"It is an excellent idea. That way...Wei Ying will have an excuse to reach out to his sister too...if he wants to?"

"I...I think I'd like that. We can talk to A-Yu later...maybe at breakfast time?" Wei Ying yawned.

"Sleep now." Lan Zhan coaxed him, humming a melody that sounded familiar.

"I love you, my Lan Zhan...." Wei Ying mumbled as he fell asleep once more.

"As I love you." Lan Zhan kissed his forehead, once more marvelling at none of the colour coming off.

That had been his original intention when his lips had started kissing Wei Ying; part fascination at how beautiful he looked, and part curiosity that no matter how hard he kissed him, that makeup wasn't coming off.

And he really did feel proud of how Mo XuanYu had done his face up.

The boy had a natural talent and Lan Zhan was going to make sure to encourage him.

He had seen the naked desire in Wei Ying's eyes...and for Lan Zhan? That was a clear win. From now on, that was going to be his secret weapon.

************

Mo XuanYu had seen their faces that morning, just before they had entered the dining room and since there was a rule about talking, no one said anything except an excited A-Yuan who had shrieked, "Pwetty!" Before suddenly remembering that this was the quiet place.

Wei Ying had simply beamed at him and blown kisses from his seat.

Uncle Qiren looked far too happy with himself, so maybe yesterday's sleepover had done them both good.

After breakfast, both Lan Zhan and Wei Ying followed the two little students into the library.

"Was he alright, Uncle?" Wei Ying was asking, gesturing towards A-Yuan. "Didn't give you any trouble?"

"No. Slept like a baby." Uncle Qiren replied, eagerly.

"That's great...I knew he would." Wei Ying smiled and then forced himself to think about this next piece of news. "A-Yu...we want to ask you something." He started with that, since what he was going to ask was something serious.

He and Lan Zhan were sitting on either side of Mo XuanYu and now Wei Ying reached over to take his hand.

"You know...yesterday, you said Jin Guanshan is your father...your real father." Wei Ying took a deep breath. But before he could say anything else, Mo XuanYu spoke.

"I don't want him to know who I am. He treated my mother really badly and I want nothing to do with him." He looked scared.

"Oh...oh...I didn’t even think about...if you wanted to...do that." Wei Ying felt flustered, because he should have and it hadn't even crossed his mind...but then in the father category, he was pretty sure Jin Guanshan wouldn't even make the cut. In fact, he was even surer that had Mo XuanYu mentioned it, Wei Ying would have seriously tried to talk him out of it.

"Oh. So then...what?" Now that the wariness had gone, Mo XuanYu looked curious.

"Well, you know his son, the pea- um...Jin ZiXuan? He's married to my Shijie...and we were wondering, Lan Zhan and I...if you would like to meet him? Since he's technically your brother?" Wei Ying felt extremely awkward saying this.

But a small part of him argued that if their positions were reversed, he would definitely want to know if he had any relatives out there. So it was only fair that they asked Mo XuanYu too.

"You can say no." Lan Zhan explained. "This is a choice and there's no wrong answer. Only whatever A-Yu wants to do...that is right. You can say yes too, even that is acceptable. Your choice." He patted Mo XuanYu's head.

The boy leaned into his touch.

"Can I think about it?"

"Of course you can, Sweetheart. No rush." Wei Ying told him, kissing his forehead.

Part of him was relieved and a part of him was disappointed.

Maybe he had been looking forward to seeing his Shijie again...but it would have to wait.

Nothing was more important than making this child feel loved and safe.

"Baba!" A-Yuan came waddling up to them. "Wook! Wook! I dwawed our family!"

He handed Wei Ying a drawing that he had obviously had help with, and there was everyone the little boy knew.

Wen Qing and Wen Ning on one side with Baba, and then Mo XuanYu and himself in the middle, with Lan Zhan, Uncle Qiren and XiChen on the other side, complete with white blobs of cotton wool which Uncle had helped him glue on.

"Clouds?" Wei Ying asked, dubiously.

"Bunnies!" A-Yuan corrected, proudly with a toothy grin.
