04| WHAT HAPPENED LAST NIGHT?

[ Chapter Four ]

❝I saw you get dragged to the roof. If something bad happened, you need to let me know.❞

[The Benefactor]

Lilianna jumped in her car without telling her step-dad where she was going. She didn't know where her brother had gone but she assumed that that animal thing had taken him. She didn't want to think about the alternative.

When Lilianna arrived home she noticed that all the lights were out. It wasn't that late at night so it obviously surprised her. Her step-dad was obviously still at the hospital but her mom should have been home. Lilianna turned off her ignition and stepped out of her car, hurrying to the door before heading straight up to her brother's room.

However, there was no sign that Liam was in there or had been in there that night. Lilianna sighed before retreating downstairs. She knew she wouldn't sleep well that night so she made herself a cup of caffeinated tea and turned on the TV before switching to a cooking channel that she could watch mindlessly.

She picked up her phone, hoping that a text message letting her know that her brother was okay would be on the screen but all she saw was a text from Brett, wondering when she was working. She answered it and set her phone down again, picking up her homework. She almost forgot how much homework she had as she was too busy worrying about her little brother.

Lilianna sped through her English homework while some contestants on a popular cooking show freaked out about how little time they had to make some famous dish.

Lilianna was in the middle of her science homework when she started dozing off but jerked awake the second she heard a key in the door.

"Liam?" Lilianna whispered.

Liam's head appeared as he peered around the corner at her, "Hi. Yeah, um. I'm just going to go to bed."

"It's like midnight, Li. Where have you been?" Lilianna stared at her brother, "Are you okay?"

"I=" Liam looked around nervously before coming into the living room, "I'm fine Lils. I just, went to Mason's. Sorry that I didn't tell you."

"This whole time you were at Mason's?" Lilianna asked, "I saw you get dragged to the roof. If something bad happened, you need to let me know."

"Nothing happened Lils. Some maniac dragged me to the roof and someone else helped me. I'm fine though and the police caught him. I just went to Mason's to cool off." Liam responded, but Lilianna could tell he wasn't telling her the truth, however she knew he wouldn't tell her anything else now so she let him be.

"Fine. Li. You don't have to tell me tonight. Just do your homework and go to bed. We can talk tomorrow." Lilianna sighed.

Liam nodded, not arguing with his sister. He didn't want to tell her what happened because he knew that she'd freak out and he didn't want anything getting back to their parents. He had no idea what had happened and telling his sister about it wasn't going to get him any more answers.

The next morning Lilianna drove herself to school and didn't wait for her brother, figuring he wouldn't want to come with her anyways. Once she got to school however, Mason rushed over to her having just gotten off the school bus.

"Where's Liam?" Mason asked her.

"Um." Lilianna looked questioningly at Mason before answering, "What do you mean, where's Liam? Wasn't he on the bus?"

"No. I thought he'd gotten a ride from you?" Mason asked her, "I haven't seen him since tryouts. Is his leg okay?"

"I knew he was lying." Lilianna groaned, "And he didn't get it x-rayed yet so I'm not sure."

"What are you talking about?" Mason asked her.

"He said he was with you last night and I figured it wasn't true but it was late and we were tired so I didn't continue the conversation. Obviously, I should have." Lilianna sighed, "He could relapse back into his old ways and then where would we be?"

"He definitely wasn't with me last night. That I know for sure." Mason nodded.

Lilianna adjusted the straps of her bag, "Anyways. Let me know when you see him. I've got to go."

Mason nodded, "Okay."

Lilianna headed to her locker in order to pick up a textbook for her first class, she paused in the hallway as she noticed Stiles walking past, looking like he was in a hurry.

"Hey Stiles!" Lilianna called out.

Stiles turned and though he'd previously looked annoyed a small smile appeared on his lips, "Lilianna. I'm kinda in a hurry."

"I can see that. I just wanted to know if you saw my brother after you left the hospital?" Lilianna asked.

"Liam?" Stiles asked, "Nope. Haven't seen him since."

Lilianna nodded, having no reason to not believe him, "Okay, thanks. See you in class."

Later in the day, Scott, Stiles, Kira, Lydia and Malia were gathered outside talking about what to do with Liam.

"I'm not sharing my basement." Malia complained.

"Actually, it's my basement and my mom noticed how you tore it up the last time." Lydia commented.

"All right. She's still learning." Stiles insisted.

"But we're going to use the boathouse for Liam. It's got support beams. We can chain him to one of them." Scott answered.

"But how do we get him out to the lakehouse if he doesn't trust us?" Kira asked.

"I say if it keeps him from murdering someone we just chloroform the little bastard and throw him in the lake." Stiles said.

"I'm in!" Malia raised her hand, smiling.

"No. We're not killing or kidnapping him." Scott sighed.

"True. and Lilianna already dislikes us, we don't need her going out for revenge." Lydia commented.

"Speaking of, what should we tell her?" Scott asked.

"About what?" Stiles asked, perking up.

"About Liam. I mean, he's going to turn into a werewolf, she should probably know." Scott insisted.

"No." Stiles shook his head, "Absolutely not. We're not telling her about the supernatural. She's going to think we're insane and then she's really going to hate us. Plus, I don't want her to get hurt."

"She's smart though. She's going to figure out something's up, if she hasn't already." Lydia added.

Scott looked at Stiles pointedly, "We don't have to tell her yet but better she find out from us then find out when she's about to be murdered."

"Hey. She's not going to be murdered." Stiles insisted.

"You never know." Malia added.

"Omigod guys. Let's tell Liam that there's a party and invite him." Lydia said, "And we'll worry about Lilianna later."

"Wait. So you're going to ask out a freshman?" Stiles asked her.

"No. I'm done with teenage boys. But if we're playing a trick on someone, why don't we use the trickster?" Lydia looked at Kira.

Kira looked shocked, "Me? No way. Not me."

"Yes you. Do you know what they call a female fox?" Lydia asked, "A vixen. You can do it Kira. Be a vixen."

"You're going to a party with a junior?" Lilianna said exasperated into the phone with her brother, "Are you serious? What's dad going to say when you don't show up for the appointment. You have an x-ray, you know?"

"I'm fine. A slight limp but it's not bad at all. Tell him I'll come tomorrow." Liam insisted.

"Li. Who is this junior?" Lilianna asked.

"Some girl named Kira. I already told Mason about it. Please cover for me." Liam pleaded.

"I always cover for you Li." Lilianna insisted, "And Kira? Isn't she Scott's friend?"

"Yeah, yeah I think she is. What does it matter?" Liam asked.

"Never mind. It doesn't. Be careful. I can pick you up if you want." Lilianna commented.

"That'd be great. Can you get Mason too?" Liam asked, "And I will."

"Sure. See you later." Lilianna hung up.

Lilianna knew she wasn't going to let Liam go to a party alone with a junior. Especially, if said junior was a friend of Scott McCall's. Lilianna didn't know Scott or his friends very well yet but she was almost certain that they would bring trouble.
