Chapter 51
7:50 pm
"There it is! There's the dog park!" Max barked. Sure enough, there was the dog park up ahead. The Jack Russell terrier wagged his tail. He and Gidget were in familiar territory. He knew the way back home from here. But to be honest...
He didn't want to go home yet.
"Okay Maxie, which way from here?" Gidget asked, looking around. Staring at his girlfriend with love in his eyes, Max smiled. He truly loved her with all of his heart. Taking a seat, the Jack Russell terrier cleared his throat with a cough and woofed softly, "Gidget, how about we rest a while."
"You don't want to go home yet?" Gidget yipped, surprised. At least she sat down. Placing his paw on top of hers, Max replied, "If it means I get to spend more time with you, then yes I don't want to go home yet." A blush coming over her face, Gidget nuzzled Max lovingly. "Aww, Maxie," she murmured. The pair sat there for a spell, enjoying each other's company. Max smiled. Nothing could ruin this.
"Get in the truck lovebirds," Rooster's voice spoke, henceforth ruining the moment. Max frowned. Why was his inner Rooster voice speaking right now? And why was it louder and more clearer? "Gidget, the voice in my head just said get in the truck," the terrier informed his girlfriend. "Maxie," Gidget piped up, "I heard the voice too." The pair looked up.
"Get in the truck lovebirds," Rooster repeated himself, this time with a growl. The Welsh sheepdog was sitting in the driver's seat of a red pickup truck. "Um, where did you learn to drive?" Max questioned, finally finding his tongue. Both he and Gidget climbed up into the passenger seat, waving at Pepe standing by the pedals. Meeting the smaller dog's gaze coldly, Rooster grumbled, "You learn a thing or two when you're forced to spend time with animals like your friends. Now buckle up." Pepe moved over to the gas pedal.
Lurching forward with a shudder, the red pickup truck cruised down the streets towards its destination.
