1| Triplet Santas Rule The Universe?

Don't ask me the details of anything-- I really don't remember.

The only thing I could register was the overwhelming pain on my head, as I groaned, my face in what smelled like fresh dirt.  Rolling over, I realized I was hurting... everywhere.

Attempting to sit up, and ignoring the sharp pain in my rip, bits and pieces of what just happened came back to me. How Miss. Rat tried to read my book to the class, my fear my crush would hear, my silent prayer to end it all...

And the murmur. The murmur in my ear telling me I asked for this! Pushing myself into a sitting position, I observed my surroundings. Strangely, there was no sun, but it was bright. The sky was a stretch of infinite blue, and there was nothing but green grass around me, I turned around gingerly, not seeing anyone in my class.

Directly behind me, however, were three robed men sitting on what looked like thrones.

What kind of insane coma was I in?

Nevertheless, I crawled towards them. If I was going crazy, I better get some answers.

Crawling towards the three men, I noticed they looked like they were ripped from a medieval book; all three had long beards, white as snow. They looked ancient, like one sneeze and they'd combust into dust on the spot.

Now a couple of feet away from them, I gingerly propped myself up to stare at the men. All three of the men were round, their robes snug against their circular frames. Upon their heads, an exquisite crown sat on their long gray hair, which flowed like a fountain down their back.

In a weird way, all three men looked like some royal Santas. The only difference was the Santa in the middle had piercing blue eyes, while the other two flanking him had flat brown eyes. All three of the Santas stared at me, unblinking.

"We've been expecting you for a while." Blue-eye Santa announced, tilting his head.

"Who are you? And where am I?" I asked the Santas.

The Santas grinned in unison, positively scaring me.

"We are, what you would call in your world, Lawmakers. We ensure that in every world, fictional or not, the world is abiding to its natural order." Blue-eye Santa said.

Seeing my face contort in confusion, and seriously scared for my mental health, Santa on the right spoke up.

"In any world, in any universe, there must be order, correct? For instance, in your world, we ensure the basic principles humanity established are carried out. Gravity, the law of attraction. Day and night. We are the facilitators of such order, of such change."

"But recently, there's been issues in our various realms..." Santa on the left said. With a sigh, he heaved  an ancient book from the inside of his robes.

"Let's see... vampire stories with the 16 year old heroine rejecting the century old vampire, werewolf stories with the girl not developing Stockholm syndrome with her captor, BTS stories with the Y/N ending up with her childhood friend instead of the popstar... this is ALL WRONG!" Left Santa exclaimed.

All three Santas looked very upset. I pinched my arm to make sure I wasn't going through a traumatic episode. Unfortunately, I was awake; my skin throbbed.

"You're saying, these realities, these "books" are actual universes?" I asked the Santas.

All three of the Santas erupted in laughter as if I said the world's funniest joke.

"Of course! Isn't your reality, your human reality, just a story? With a beginning, middle, and end?" Blue eyed Santa managed through his laughter.

He got me there. I looked around the landscape, still seeing nothing but an expanse of green.

"You didn't answer the rest of my question. Where am I, and why am I here?" I asked, staring at the Santas.

"As I told you, our universes are going through havoc. None of the storylines are correct, none of the characters are doing as they are supposed to. And there's a force we cannot determine, but it is one we recognize causing the havoc." Left Santa said.

"We are old and becoming weaker; with each day, there are new forces that alter the course of the storylines. With every altered storyline, we become weaker and weaker. Eventually, we may die." Right Santa said.

I snorted. Why would I care if the creepy triplet Santas died? Maybe I could go back to Calculus class and escape this prolonged nightmare!

As if he heard my thoughts, Blue eyed Santa responded to my indifferent response.

"While our deaths may not impact you immediately, you will see it in your realm. The loss of the basic facts. No more day and night. Loosing the concept of time. Then, confusion. Chaos, warfare. And most importantly, you would be transported back into the very moment you most feared, and inadvertently prayed to us, your Teacher reading your questionable fan fiction scene."

The two flanking Santas giggled, as I looked down in embarrassment. I didn't really care about the confusion or chaos the Santa spoke about-- I would do anything to avoid living through Miss. Rat exposing me.

"What do you need me to do then?" I asked the Santas.

Without notice, Left Santa threw me the ancient book.

"In each  realm, you must make the story go as the writer intends. Failing to do so will directly transport you to the very moment you fear." Left Santa said.

"Be warned. In every universe, you will encounter foes and enemies. Your defeat in this universe... can very well equate to your end."

Wait a minute, I didn't sign up for this! How the hell was I supposed to fix any storyline?

"I'm not sure you have the right one for this, very...lucrative job! Thank you for your consideration though!" I said trying my best to flash a convincing smile.

Blue-eyed Santa rolled his eyes. "Oh please, you've read thousands of books. Don't think we don't know you stayed up the "My Soulmate Has Fangs" trilogy in one night!"

"Dare I say, you have the most knowledge of universe-reading we've seen in a while." Right Santa said.

All three Santas agreed. ˇTo an extent there were right-- I've read thousands of books, to the point where I could easily predict the outcome of the story, foresee plot twists, and could always weed out the antagonist. Not to be too cocky, but they were right. Another question bubbled into my head.

"One more thought-- will I receive some kind of compensation for this or--" I asked.

Blue-eyed Santa rolled his eyes again. With a wave of his hand, the ancient book I was carrying fell to the floor. With another wave, the book flipped open. The title of the story read "My Soulmate Has Fangs."

"Goodbye, You. We expect to see you soon." Blue-eyed Santa said.

Without so much of a warning, I felt myself being catapulted into the book, as it swallowed me whole.
