　　HOUSE STARK OF WINTERFELL IS, AND ALWAYS WILL BE, REMEMBERED AS ONE OF THE Great Houses of Westeros. The Lords of Winterfell have ruled over the Kingdom of the North for centuries, and are one of the oldest lines of Westerosi nobility by far, claiming a line of descent stretching back over eight thousand years. The current Lord, Eddard Stark, had been blessed with many sons and daughters over the years from the two wives he had married during the rebellion of which ended the Targaryen dynasty.

　　Lord Eddard's first wife, Ismene Ryswell, was a great beauty. He had loved her truly, though it wasn't but a year into their marriage that he had lost her. Taken not long after the birth of her twin children, Ismene had fallen during the hours of the moon. And with a war on the horizon, Eddard did not have time to mourn his beloved. Rather, he was struck by duty to take another wife by the name of Catelyn of House Tully.

　　While she was not their mother, Catelyn Stark had loved the twins as if they had come from her own womb. Over the years, Darik and Ismene, with no memory of their true mother, have considered Lady Catelyn as such. For it was the fish from the Riverlands that had tucked them in every night, sang them ballads when they were unwell, and had tended to every wound they endured.

　　As the future Lord of Winterfell, Darik Stark knows that it is his responsibility to care for his family and the people of the North. He knew that he would be forced to marry a woman whom he did not love one day. Someone that could produce him many heirs of his own that would one day protect the North as well. But, that is something Darik has never wanted for himself. For as long as he can remember, all he has ever wanted was to marry Lady Aubrey of House Mandal.

　　However, House Mandal was not within regular traditions. Its Lord, Darren Mandal, was a man of his own opinions and desires. He had chosen not to bear any sons with a new wife after his beloved Lady Vivyan had been taken by a fever, and had rather named his eldest born daughter, Aubrey, as his heir and future Lady of Cotherstone. And on the day that he denied taking a second wife, Darren had decided that he would not force marriage upon his daughters as it was forced upon him. He would allow them each to find love on their own.

　　That is when Darik Stark began praying to the Gods for Lady Aubrey to love him one day. And, perhaps, the Gods would answer his prayers, for when a raven arrives in the night carrying fateful news, everything about his life changes in the blink of an eye. Suddenly, a path of war is laid beneath his feet and he finds his days consumed with blood and death and grief. And somewhere along the way, the Lady of Cotherstone returned his affections.

Wow. It's been years. So many years and so many ups and downs with this book. But I am so happy this book is back, new and improved and better than it ever was, because I have truly missed writing these characters so much. That said, I sincerely hope all of you will enjoy what is to come!
