Snow Days
Let's pretend they didn't grow up in Texas yeah??
Layers of powdery-fresh snow dusted nearly every surface, streets slick with ice, and icicles dangling from the rooftops. The first snowfall of the season was always the prettiest, making the neighborhood look like a winter wonderland, but the school seemed to get the worst of it, which was why I woke up with a notification from my teacher, letting me know school would be cancelled today. I responded by pulling my blankets back over my head and drifting back to sleep.
When I awoke again hours later, I wrapped my blankets around my shoulders and sleepily stumbled down the stairs, ditching the coffee maker and fixing myself some hot chocolate instead. As I waited for the milk to heat up, I heard a faint knock on my front door, followed by a familiar voice that never failed to brighten my day.
"Mitchie, let me in, it's fucking freezing."
A giggle tumbled from my lips as I hurried to the door as quick as I could without tripping over your blanket, unlocking the door before swinging it open. Scott stood on my doorstep, a steaming mug of coffee in his gloved hands and warm blankets draped over his shoulders.
"Wow, you look stunning," Scott smirked, eyeing my disheveled hair and dark circles.
"In my defense, I just woke up," I shot back, opening the door wider to let my best friend in. "Also, you should look in a mirror."
I closed and locked the door behind Scott, returning back to the kitchen to finish fixing my hot chocolate. Scott made himself at home, leaning against the countertop and sipping at his coffee. "What were you gonna do today?" He questioned, shifting his eyes over to glance at me.
I set the spoon I used to stir my hot chocolate in the sink before raising the mug to my lips. "Absolutely nothing," I responded, cautiously drinking the scalding cocoa. "You should join me."

After numerous attempts of finding a comfortable spot on the roof, Scott and I found ourselves snuggled close together under my heap of blankets, toasty warm from the ten minutes they spent in the dryer. We sat in a comfortable silence, my head resting on his shoulder as we stared at the snow-dusted neighborhood that seemed to stretch into oblivion. The sky overhead was baby blue, with fluffy gray snow clouds topping the mountains on the horizon. The biting cold caused both our cheeks and noses to glow pink.
Everything was calm, and I couldn't help but smile.
"It's really cold out," Scott commented, letting his head fall to rest on mine.
"Do you wanna go inside?" I offered, eyes shifting to glance up at him.
Scott shook his head, a thoughtful smile curving on his lips. "Wanna stay like this for a little longer."
I nodded, eyelids slowly drifting shut as I focused on the sound of Scott breathing beside me. His head tilted, lips pressing a gentle kiss to the top of my head. I could definitely stay like this for a little longer.
