Chapter 5~Carl
I follow Negan outside as he watches Lauren lace up her shoes.
"What if she dies?" I ask him.
He chuckles and looks at me weirdly. "Then I guess we'll have to find another super soldier. Now won't we?"
I glare at him and he shrugs and turns around. We stand there and watch Lauren run off until we can't see her anymore.
"I think it's time for you to be getting home." Negan smirks. I mentally kick myself for ever thinking this was a good idea. I know that he's just not going to let me go home and not kill someone or take our dwindling supplies.
He leads me to a shipping dock sort of place where they keep the trucks and motorcycles and talks to Fat Joe for a while.
I take one last, good, look at the place before Negan opens the door for me to hop in. I hope I'll remember it enough to be able to tell Rosita and Maggie the lay out.
I get in the middle with Negan on one side and some other guy on the drivers side.
The driver starts up the big white truck and pulls out. I notice a rumbling sound from behind us and realize that it's two more trucks following us. This was defiantly a bad idea.
I watch the forest and road go by through Negan' s side view mirror since I couldn't really see anything behind us from the middle. I try and remember every turn that we took to get there.
We finally reach the gates of my temporary home. Nothing's permanent anymore. Negan climbs out along with the guy driving the truck and meets Simon at the gate.
I stay put and watch as he taps Lucille on the fence just as he always does. I was hoping for gunshots or a bomb to be thrown over, I mean this would be the perfect chance, I wouldn't care if I died in the process, but nothing happened besides Spencer opening the gate up. He tries to hide his shocked expression, but he isn't very good at acting. They exchange some words until Spencer opens the gate and Negan and the guy come back to the truck.
Once inside the gates, they begin to climb out of the trucks and rummage through our stuff. Our stuff. Not theirs. Negan orders some of his men around and argues a bit with a woman who has a giant scar from the right side of her forehead to the left side of her jaw. She ends up storming away and Negan begins to walk towards the road my house is on.
I follow Negan around as he makes his way down the sidewalk. He tips his imaginary hat at people who walk by with shocked and scared expressions written all over their faces. Who would blame them? It was only a few days ago that they were here.
"Nice house you have here, kid. Let's go in shall we?" He indicates that I should open the door in a mannerly way. I will of course obey because I don't want him to hurt Judith because of my actions, but I scowl at him under my breath.
I unlock the door with the key that we keep inside the old mailbox that hangs next to the door on the wall. I unlock it and hold it open for him. He sure does like to take his damn time.
He looks around while I shut the door. There isn't much to look at though; it's just some random fancy pictures we've found on runs. He takes interest in a painting that Michonne found and examines it for a solid minute. It consisted of brightly colored paint drizzled on a black painted canvas. It was fun to look at alright, but it seemed out of place to me in our red leathered living room with nothing bright in it.
I hear Judith start to cry upstairs and so does Negan. He looks up to the stairs with a smile. "You have a baby in this world?" He starts up the stairs and I chase after him. I swear to myself that if he even scratches Judith, then I'm killing him. He opens up her door and stares at her with something like affection in his eyes, but not like he wants her. It's more like he likes the idea of a child. I feel bad for him for a split second but it quickly fades away.
He picks her up out of her crib and starts talking to her. "Oh look. At. You. You don't look anything like your father, but I guess that's a good thing." I roll my eyes and follow him down the stairs as he carries Judith down. He sets her in the kitchen chair and looks at the Olivia who works in the pantry who was watching Judith.
"You don't happen to have any lemonade, do you?" He asks.
She picks at her nails. "L-lemonade?" She stutters and looks from me back to Negan.
"Yeah, you know. Lemonade. That pink or yellow powder that you mix into water and drink." He dummies it down for her.
She nods slightly and practically runs out the door. Negan seems pleased with his ability to scare the crap out of people in Alexandria and turns to rummage through our cabinets. He pulls out a package of spaghetti and tomato sauce.
"Looks like we have dinner tonight kids!" He exclaims and tosses me an apron from the hook on the wall.
I look at the apron and then back at him as he puts one on. He notices my look of disgust. I am not wearing an apron.
"Wouldn't want to get tomato sauce on that nice blue flannel, now would we?"
I hesitate for a while more until I see the look of impatients written all over his face. I loathingly put it around my neck and tie it in the back.
"Good, now let's get cookin'."
