Chapter 2~ Lauren

I wake up just as we enter the gates to our community, the Sanctuary. The walkers reach out to us, but are stuck to the gate. Even if they got off, I'd be the first to kill them.

Why would that boy try to hurt me back at that community. I felt like I knew him before, but I can't tell where. My past is all fuzzy, and I don't know why. I mean, I know my name is Lauren and I know basic stuff, but that's basically it. I don't remember anything before the apocalypse or how I even got to the Sanctuary.

We pull up to the front doors and I jump out, making the head ache in my head throb.

"You have training in an hour." Negan reminds me as I open the door to the building. I nod without looking back at him and continue inside.

"Lauren!" I hear someone call from above me. I look up to see my neighbor, Dulce, looking down over the guardrail.

"Hey Dulce." I smile back at her. She motions me up and then disappears from the railing. I make my way towards the stairs and run up them, ignoring the dull throbbing and the ache in my bones from earlier. I hated this feeling that only they caused. It's funny how no one else causes it. I meam, it gets duller with each time, and I don't even know them, but I still hate them. That boy makes it hurt worse than the others, but still.

"What could you possibly want?" I ask Dulce once I reached the top of the stairs.

"Ok, ok. So you know how we've been trying to get Tommy to switch floors?" She asks. I nod, hoping they'd found a way to get his creepy butt to move. "Well, Makenzie put an egg under the plant in his room last week, and the smell got so bad that I guess he finally moved."

"Seriously!" I high five her. Tommy was the creepy kid who hit on everything that was female, I've heard that he has crushes on some of the female walkers.

"Well, at least we don't have to worry about him anymore!" Makenzie exclaims as she hops down the stairs.

"Except at training." I groan. "Which we have in fifty minutes."

"Awesome." Makenzie rolls her eyes. "So where'd you go?"

"Some community." I reply.

"Hilltop?"

"Kingdom?"

"No. It was some community that I've never heard of. Alexandria? Yeah, that's it." I reply. "The people there hurt too." As if in memory, my head hurts for a split second but I ignore it and continue with the conversation.

Dulce shrugs nonchalantly. "Happens with every community we go to."

"True," I agree. "Everybody at these coomunitutes hurts us the same. Although...Nevermind." I'm sure they'll think I'm crazy if I tell them about that boy. They don't question what I was about to say thankfully and I change the subject completely. "We should head down to practice before Tommy gets there."

They both nod in agreance and we start down the stairs. It's almost noon, so that means all the vendors are out on the main floor. I push my way past people, not apologizing at all. Why bother when no one apologizes to you back?

Finally we make it to the hallway that leads to another set of stairs that go up some, lead around a hall for apartments, and then lead back down to the courtyard door where they train us selected few. It mainly consists of Dulce, Makenzie, Tommy, Emily, Jesús, and I. None of us, besides Jesús who's been here since the start, remember how we got here, or what our past lives were, but the doctor says that that's because our pasts are so broken and terrifying that our brains chose to ignore it and forget about it which causes our fighting skills to enhance quicker, and that is why we are all great fighters. Basically we are all strong, can use basically any weapon now with our training, and we all know we killed before our brains forgot our past because of the world we live in. Perfect soldiers.

Makenzie pushes open the door and I follow after her. Jesús and Emily are already there and I pray that maybe Tommy had to stay back to move, but it's soon crushed when he opens the door behind us.

"Damn." We all whisper under our breathes.

"Hey guy's! I saw a deer today." He stupidly says. He's actually intelligent, but he plays dumb which gets on all our nerves.

"Good for you, Tommy." Emily sighs and rolls her eyes.

It's really weird how Emily and I share some characteristics. She has brown hair with some blonde and I have blonde hair with hints of brown, we gave the same weird eye thing where one corner of our eyes is different than the other side.

"Alright!" Mrs. Benson yells as she walks outside "Today, we're going to practice hand to hand combat." She examines us one by one.

"Emily. Makenzie. You two are partners." She points to them. "Jesús and Dulce, you two are partners." Emily busts out laughing and I know what's going to happen. "Tommy. Lauren. You two are partners."

I spin to face coach. "But-" she cuts me off with a shake of her head letting me know that this conversation was over.

"Tommy, Makenzie, and Jesús. You guys are the anchors." She hands them each a walkie talkie and some ear plugs. "They're already turned on so all you have to do is not press the button." She pulls out her own walkie and orders the anchors to put in their ear plugs before she talks into it to someone on the other end. I can hear them faintly over the walkies the anchors have. "That's a go." She says into the talkie and not long after comes voices and pain. I focus in on my walkie and hear that boy.

"Lauren?" His voice sends a pain through my head and I drop to my knees.

"Push through it! You're showing weakness by showing pain! Push the pain to the side and fight!" Benson tells at us as the others fall to their knees too.

I focus only on the anger I feel for this boy and shakily stand up. The pain turns into a throb and I look up at the point where the voice is coming from. I hate that boy and the pain he's brought upon me. He stands some feet away. I want Tommy to turn off the walkie that stands by his feet, but he won't. I'll make him.

I walk up to him and punch him in the jaw. He stumbles back, holding his jaw from where I punched him. The pain seems to go away the more I hit, so I hit him again and then knee him in the gut.

"Defend yourselves, anchors!" Benson yells. Tommy stands up and swings at me but I duck out of the way and swipe his feet from under him. He tries to catch his breath and I stand over him. He still hasn't made that boy's voice go away. Why?

Before I know it, I'm on the ground with the wind knocked out of me because I wasn't paying attention to him kicking my legs out from under me. He tries to pin me down, but I knew him in the stomach and then punch him. He falls over next to me so I pin him down and punch him over, and over, and over until Benson makes the voice go away by running up and turning off the walkie.

I get up without any pain from the voice left. But then I realize that I just beat the crap out of Tommy, but damn did it feel good to not have pain and get revenge.

I look around me to see everyone staring at me in shock. Well, those who aren't curled up in a fetal position in pain.

Benson orders the person on the other end of the walkie something and the voices stop. She then orders her assistance to help her get Tommy up.

I look back at everyone and then take off running inside. Why? I don't know. I seemed to be through with practice, I mean I did just finish today's lesson.

I run and run through the halls and up the stairs until I reach my apartment-like-room. I open the door and then slam it closed, sinking against it with my knees pulled to my chest. Today had been so weird. I want to kill that boy who keeps hurting me.

A/N: sorry for the sucky ending! Kind of rushed. Love you guys!
