Chapter 34✔︎
Y/N PoV
"The police report said FP worked alone." Betty continues to reread her mother's article. I haven't read it yet and I don't think I want too. That man was somebody I trusted, somebody I cared about, now it's all gone. Jughead hasn't read it yet or visit his dad. Today is the day for the questions, I have a feeling it's not going to go well.
Archie looks at Veronica with those eyes I've seen for weeks, "No mention of your dad, Ronnie. That's good news, right?"
"I can't stop thinking that, maybe my dad hired another Serpent to plant that gun." She says sadly.
I see Archie reach under the table for Veronica's hand. He give it a tight squeeze but pulls away once Kevin sits down.
"It's surreal, isn't it? How's Jughead doing?"
Everybody looks over at me. I don't talk during lunch anymore, I stay in my head, "Oh um not good. He hasn't been coming in and today he's at the station. Being grilled by your dad."
Kevin looks at me, "Its his job. I mean, of course he's gonna ask Jughead questions."
"Okay, well, he's wasting his time, Kev. Because FP didn't kill Jason." Betty taps her fingers on the table.
"Betty, he confessed."
"Or he was coerced!" She sighs, "Or he's protecting someone, maybe a Serpent. My mom saw him and Joaquin together.."
"Don't! Do not drag my boyfriend into this." Kevin huffs and continues on with his lunch ignoring Betty.
Archie looks away from the rest of us to the cafeteria doors. Our eyes follow his to see Jughead. He strides through the cafeteria to a certain red headed girl.
"What happened to him not coming in today?" Veronica whispers.
I get out of my seat and make my way over to him but before I could do anything, Cheryl gets up. She slaps him in the face then pounds on his chest. Jughead lets her do it with his hands in his pockets. I run over with Archie to stop them. He pulls Cheryl away from him and I go to Jughead.
"Enough! Mr.Jones, you need to come with me. Right now!" Principal Weatherbee yells at him. His booming voice can be heard throughout the universe, I bet.
"He was apologizing. He didn't do anything wrong!"
Our Principal waves Jughead to follow him. They leave the cafeteria and go to his office. I go to his office as well. The secretary wouldn't let me in so I sit on a chair outside his office to wait for my boyfriend.
Minutes past and still no Jughead. I check my watch. This is taking forever!
After another ten minutes of waiting, Jughead walks out of the office. I get up and follow him out. "What happened?"
"My second interrogation of the day. I don't know who's more of a dick, Keller or Weatherbee." We walk down the hallway to the doors.
"Don't listen to them. They are wrong. Your dad could be innocent, and we just need to prove it, Juggie."
He sighs and wipes his red eyes, "Who killed him, then, Y/N? Tell me. If it wasn't my dad, who killed Jason Blossom? He said he did it, and you know what? I've been waiting my whole life for that man to do the right thing, and I'm done. You should be too." Jughead walks out the doors to the outside world.
"Jug!" I wish we could be at home, in bed, cuddling and watching movies like old times. It's not old times anymore, it's the time when his dad went to jail and I can't do anything about it!
I go to class with the rest of the school.
**Time Skip**
Archie and I get home later than usual. Fred hangs up the phone once we open the door. We go to the kitchen where Fred stands unhappily,"That was Weatherbee. He's concerned for Jug's person safety. After what happened with Cheryl, he's worried about the other students' reaction to it. Thinks Jughead should finish the semester from home."
"Jughead's getting kicked out because Cheryl pummeled him. How is that fair?" I sit down on one of the chairs and grab an apple, "This isn't his fault."
"It's not."
Archie scratches his neck thinking hard,"Well, can we call, I don't know, the school board?"
"Son, FP may spend decades in prison, potentially the rest of his life. We gotta think of a long-term solution."
"We are the long term solution!" I fight back.
"That's not how it works, okay? I'm not his legal guardian." Fred leans on the counter biting his lip.
"Oh, good thing mom's a lawyer." Archie shakes his head.
"Archie, my priority is keeping both of you safe."
I put my hand up, "Wait a second! Keep me safe from who? Jughead? Are you kidding me, dad?"
"No, from whatever trouble seems to follow the Jones' around, wherever they go, whatever they do! Hell, maybe you should go to Chicago and live with your mom, Archie." Fred sighs now realizing everything he said.
"It's not even something I was considering, dad. But you know what? Maybe I should!"
"Hey, if it'll keep you out of trouble, I'm all for it." Fred sits down next to me.
"One more thing, Jughead is not unsafe! He is fine and actually the best damn thing that has happened to me! Jug is there for me. He helps me make good choices and you should agree because you've seen it yourself." I take a bite of my apple.
"Well your a Serpent now so.." He whispers to himself.
Jughead runs down the stairs. I jump up and walk over to him, "Hey Jug!"
He opens the door, "I'm gonna sleep in the garage tonight. Okay?"
"Jug no..come downstairs."
Jughead shakes his head then walks out to the garage.
I turn around to face Fred and Archie, "Thanks a lot! He is not okay! This isn't how we should treat him! I'm gonna go change. Then get some extra pillows and blankets for when Jughead and I sleep in the garage. Good night."
Fred nods silently and stares at the counter. "Good night."
I go downstairs then change into shorts and one of Jughead's t-shirts. They are comfier than all of my pajamas. I get a bunch of pillows and blankets, after, I go to the garage.
What I see when I enter is Jughead sitting on the couch, head in hands, crying. It breaks my heart. I drop all of the useless items I'm carrying and make my way to him. "Juggie?"
He looks up, "Oh uh hey." Jug wipes his eyes to get rid of all the tears. I know he doesn't like crying in front of me.
"Please don't hide your emotions from me. You don't need too." I sit down on the couch as tears fall from both of our eyes.
"I'm fine you can go inside."
"I'm not going to leave. You're everything to me so that means I am going to stay." He dips his head down and I hug him tightly. Jughead cries into my shoulder while I whisper reassuring things and run my fingers through his hair, it calms him down.
"Why did you come to the garage?" He mumbles into my neck.
I wipe the tears off my face,"I'm not gonna let my boyfriend sleep in a garage alone. He is after all a pretty amazing person."
He lifts his head up, "His girlfriend is better."
This makes me smile. I put my hand on his cheek and run my thumb over it lightly. "The girlfriend isn't better. She doesn't know what to do to make her boyfriend happier."
"She is doing fine by just being there." He smirks, "Also the kissing after the Serpent dance helped a lot."
I roll my eyes at him. "That night was
great."
"Can we do it again tonight?" Jughead asks hopefully.
"Don't push your luck, Jones." I laugh at him and pull him him for another hug plus a kiss. He smiles into it giving some hope to the girlfriend who doesn't know how to help.
