Chapter 31✔︎
Y/N PoV
Jughead sets the pizza down on the table proud he made something without causing a fire. He sits down next to me, "So, A John Landis double feature at the Bijou. American Werewolf in London and Animal House."
Archie cuts into the pizza, "That's awesome except," he clears his throat, "I told Betty about your birthday."
"You told her? Dude, come on. That's a primal betrayal." Jughead sighs.
"I tried to stop him." I grab one of the hot slices of pizza burning my fingers.
Archie dusts the pizza crumbles off his hands, "Why do you hate your birthday so much, Jug?"
"PTSD from when I was a kid. I don't know. Things were always messed up at home. Usually because of my dad. And then there was this arbitrary day, that we would just get together and pretend things were great. We were normal. And it just made me feel really lonely."
I set my pizza down and rub Jug's back. "Your not alone. Not then or now. You have me and Archie."
He gives me a weak smile. Jughead shakes those memories away and eats a slice of pizza. "I can't believe we didn't burn this! Mr.Andrews is going to be so proud."
We laugh and look back on one of our three musketeers disasters.
The memory:
We were up in Archie's room doing what we know and love. Video games. The boys would always drag me into them. I don't know how to play so I watch the boys play every time.
They never pay attention to anything once the game turns on. Their only goal is to beat the other. I was paying attention luckily. A very burn smell crept up the stairs. It smelt awful and got scared because the house must have been on fire. Then I remember what we where doing earlier.
We were baking cookies for a bake sale at school. I jump up and turn off the game. Jughead and Archie start yelling at me to turn it back on.
"The cookies are burning!!!!" I scream.
The boys bound down he stairs with Archie falling face first onto the ground. The way it smelt and the smoke circling above our heads made Archie get up and forget about his tumble.
We look into the kitchen to see flames coming out of the oven. I have no idea what to do so I stand frozen at the doorway. Fire has always been one of my biggest fears because of what happened to my mom. Jughead knows this so he grabbed the phone and shoved it into my hands, "Get away from the fire and call Fred! Arch and I can get it!"
I listened and when to the living room. I called a terrified Fred. He didn't care if the kitchen was totally gone but cared if the boys were ok. I went back to the kitchen to see Archie and Jughead throwing water into the oven yelling, "WATER!! WE NEED MORE WATER!!" and "ARCHIE YOUR WATER PRESSURE SUCKS!" and my favorite when Jughead slipped, "WHY ARE WE SUCH DOUCHES!!"
I would have been sitting there laughing at the scrambling boys but there was still fire. The fear of fire left me numb. I try to walk forward but my legs couldn't carry me. Jughead saw me standing at the door, "Y/N go outside!" He doesn't want me near anything that could hurt me.
Then I remember my worst fear, losing my boys. This pushed me to take steps to the oven. I grab an oven mitt and open the oven so water could actually reach the fire! My boys might want to be heroes but they have no common sense.
Archie throws some water into the oven and then fire hisses at us. It stops burning and I sigh. Jughead rushes over to me. "Are you ok?"
I smile at him, "I'm great actually. How about you two?"
"Fine."
"I'm just glad you are smart Y/N." Jughead gives me a hug as Fred walks in the door.
He runs over to us and turns off the oven, "Thank god you are all fine..." Fred pulls us into a group hug. "Maybe no more cooking while I'm gone from now on?"
Memory Ended
"Yes he will be, one thing though. If there is another fire in the oven maybe you should open it next time?" I laugh and eat the pizza.
"Or maybe Archie needs to get better water pressure." Jughead jokes.
Archie rolls his eyes at him, "Maybe Jughead should slip in the water next time!"
He puts his arms up defensively, "Wow wow wow. I'm pretty sure you fell down the stairs and you are the athlete here."
We laugh at our stupid behavior that day. The whole memory sums up the question 'why are we such douches?'
**Time Skip to end of movies**
"Should we go home Jughead?" I am currently sitting next to my boyfriend watching the second movie holding hands. He is eating the popcorn like an animal.
"Why would we leave when-"
I cut him off with a kiss. He tastes like the salty buttery popcorn. "Because Fred is not home."
Jughead gives me a mischievous smile knowing what's about to come. He grabs all of our left over candy and popcorn from the ground.
We leave the theater without throwing away our extra food. One of the most important things to do, according to Jug, is to take the food home and watch another movie while eating it. We do it every year.
I get into the drives seat and he gets into the passengers seat. I start to drive us home and he puts his hand on my thigh.
"We aren't even home yet, Juggie." I laugh at how excited he is for some alone time but Jug will be getting the opposite of alone.
"Sorry it's hard not to."
I pull into the Andrew's house expecting cars everywhere but then I remember it's a surprise. Everybody probably parked down the street somewhere. We get out of the car and Jughead walks behind me kissing my neck. "I can't wait."
"Stop Jug." I don't want to be rude but I don't want them to see us being so intimate. Mostly I don't want Archie to see, that would be awkward.
He whines and snakes his arm around my waist. Jughead opens the door to the dark.
The lights turn on and everybody jumps out, "Surprise!"
Jughead smiles at them trying to hold back his real feelings. "This is why we left the double feature."
I frown, "Yeah. I'm sorry."
Archie walks over to Jug with some strong smelling alcohol in a cup, "Happy birthday, bro"
Jughead hugs the tipsy Archie, "You really shouldn't have." He whispers and pulls away from him, "Ugh, you reek. Are you drunk?"
"No." Archie shakes his with a weird smile plastered on his face.
He is so drunk.
Veronica tells Jughead something in Spanish I don't understand. I will just guess it's happy birthday.
Jughead nods, "Thanks Veronica." He doesn't understand what she said either. "Thanks everyone." Kevin steps forward with open arms, "Oh it's Kevin."
"Happy birthday, bud." Kevin gives him a short hug, "This is my boyfriend, Joaquin."
Jughead and I shake his hand, "Nice to meet you."
"Has anyone seen Betty?" I ask them. She made this fiasco happen and she's no where in sight. What a bitch.
Betty walks out from the kitchen holding a burger shaped cake, "Happy birthday to you. Happy birthday to you. Happy birthday dear Jughead. Happy birthday to you." She sang while walking to him slowly. Betty is really creepy. She hands Jughead the cake.
"That was haunting, Betty." He stares down at the cake.
Betty puts her arm around his shoulders happily and kisses his cheek, "Blow our the candles and make a wish!"
I narrow my eyes at her. Jughead is mine and only mine so she needs to respect that.
Veronica walks away from us and Archie follows her. He really is falling for a girl again.
Jughead leans over to me, "I wish it were just the two of us right now."
"I know babe, me too." I say sadly.
He blows out the candles in one blow. Kevin seems impressed, "One blow!"
Betty takes the cake out of his hands and sets it down on the coffee table. She runs into the kitchen to grab something. Kevin and Joaquin leave the room as well and sit at the table.
Jughead and I go with the rest of our group into the kitchen where Veronica and Archie are hugging it out. They let go of each other when we enter.
"Oh sorry."
"Just coming to get ice cream, so is everything ok?" Betty looks at her crying friend.
"Yeah, no, I'm just not in a party mood like I usually am." Veronica wipes her eyes and fixes her hair trying to compose herself.
Jughead sighs and leans in the counter, "That makes two of us."
I lean next to him, "Three actually."
Betty is shocked "Whoa wait! You're not actually upset that I threw you a party, are you?"
"It is nice Betty. I appreciate it. It's just I would be happier if it was just the five of us in a booth at Pop's."
"Yeah. But we always do that. I wanted to do something special." Betty shakes her head.
"The road to hell is paved with good intentions." Jughead frowns.
"That is true Betty." I huff at how selfish she can be sometimes.
"Why is everything doin and gloom with you, Jug? Why can't it just be normal for once?"
"Betty, he's not normal." I hold his hand tightly.
Jughead nods, "I'm not wired to be normal."
The doorbell rings multiple times causing an unsettling feeling drift into my stomach. Jughead looks at her angrily, "How many more people did you invite to this thing?"
"No one! Inner-circle only."
I go to the door along with the Scooby gang, Ethel, and Joaquin. The door opens with Cheryl dressed in a party outfit, "Did you really think you could have a party without inviting moi?"
People start to come in including a smirking Chuck Clayton, "Or me?" He asks.
"Archie where do you want the kegs?" Moose is caring one of the big kegs on his shoulder. He really is beefy.
Drunk Archie looks at all of us and then back at them, "Screw it! One in the kitchen, one in the backyard!"
The whole school cheers and rushes in to start the party. Archie joins them and gets more alcohol. Jughead walks away from the party driven teenagers. I follow him to the garage with the 'perfect' teenager on my tail.
I get into the garage and see Jughead in a chair staring at the ground unhappily while petting Vegas. "Hey..."
Archie runs in after me getting passed me quickly, "Dude, Valerie just got here! You think she wants me back?"
"Archie, as my blood brother, it was your sole responsibility to ensure that something like this never happened on my birthday. And now we're here. In the middle of a Seth Rogen movie." Jughead is pissed at every person on the planet right now surely me being the exception.
"This was Betty's idea, okay? I just went along with it." Archie sits down in a chair.
"I can say that's true except for the drunk Archie part." I sight and sit on the couch.
"It's so not me!"
"It doesn't matter, Jughead, you're her friend now." Archie is smiling way to much for the fight.
"What does that mean?" Jughead asks.
"It means you're getting your birthday party whether you want one or not." He takes another sip.
Jughead scoffs at Archie's pathetic excuses and FP comes in just the right time for this! Does Betty want to kill Jughead?
"Dad, hey." He gets out of the chair.
FP taps on a present wrapped very well, "Happy birthday, Jughead."
Archie gets up and sticks his hands in his pockets looking like an idiot, "How are you, Mr.Jones?"
"Happy to be here, celebrating with my son. Didn't realize you had so many friends."
Jughead kicks the ground lightly, "I don't. And fair warning. You're the only adult here."
"So I gather. Where can I put this?" FP holds up the box.
Archie points to the house, "There's a table in the den."
FP starts to exit but Jughead cuts him off, "Dad? Did Betty call you?"
"Yeah, she came by too. She knows what she wants, that one. I'll be back! Oh and Y/N your final trial is in a week." FP leaves the garage.
I slump down into the couch more. I wish the world would just disappear to leave me and Jughead here, alone.
"What does he mean by your final trial Y/N?" Jughead turns around to look at me.
"We'll talk later ok? When it's just the two of us." I say quietly.
"Now it is just the two of you." Archie leaves the room running off to find Val.
"You do know my dad has a drink problem, right?" Jughead paces around the room.
"Of course I know Juggie. I didn't think people would be drinking tonight! I didn't want Cheryl and Chuck here and I didn't want this party for you! I just wanted it to be our friends." I get up from the couch to stop Jughead from pacing.
He stops pacing and looks at me angrily, "You and Archie are my friends, okay? Everyone else, including Kevin, including Veronica are people that two months ago I would've actively shunned."
"Why?"
"In case you haven't noticed, I'm weird. I'm a weirdo. I don't fit in. And I don't want to fit in. Have you ever seen me without this stupid hat on? That's weird!"
"Why are you getting so upset at me? It's Betty." I am dumbfounded at why this is all of a sudden my fault.
"It's not just Betty. It's the fact that you don't care that this is the last thing I would want. You did this for you. To prove something!"
"To prove what?"
He sighs and waves his hand, "You're a great girlfriend. I don't know," he scoffs. "Doesn't it ever occur to you just how different we are? Like in a cellular DNA kind of level? Your a good student, and friends with cheerleader, for God's sakes! Your the perfect girl!"
"I'm not Betty." Tears trail down my eyes because this is how things end in movies or some god awful Wattpad book! This is how couples fall, it's so cliche.
"I'm the damaged loner outsider from the wrong side of the tracks! Y/N, come on. Who are we kidding? We're on borrowed time!"
I shake my head, "What the hell is that supposed to mean?"
"Y/N, I'm not one of your projects, okay? Like doing the your final trial." He adjusts his hat, a habit I've picked up on the last few years.
"No!! Your not a project, you're my boyfriend!" I reach for his cheek but he pulls my hands away.
"Until your sick of slimming it with me, or until some guy changes his mind and says he wants to be with you, like Reggie?" Jughead tells me. He takes a pause and soon realizes what he said.
I nod silently and walk out the the garage. Jughead sighs and follows me out but I run off and lose him. I stand on the steps, with Veronica and Kevin, crying my eyes out. Archie and Val are having an argument ending in Valerie poring beer on him and leaving.
Archie runs away from the problems to his room.
"I guess both the Andrew kids are single now." I sigh and look at my friends.
Veronica gasps at my words, "What happened with you and Jughead?"
"We had a fight and I ran off." More tears run down my face and Veronica gives me a hug.
Jughead runs past us to the door but Cheryl and Chuck stop him, "Where are you going guest of honor?"
"Get out of my way, Chuck." Jughead steps back from the overgrown baboon. (Lol when you can't think of a comeback)
"Oh, but you can't leave now. We haven't even played our game yet." Cheryl gives a demon smile and yells, "Listen yo, party people! Everyone be has their secrets. And we're all don't our fair share of sinning. That's one thing my dear brother's death has revealed. So let's play a little game to get the secrets out in the open." She locks the door and herds is into the living room.
"What the hell is Secrets and Sins?" Jughead asks.
"It's a variation of Truth or Dare. In which we own our truths. By telling it like it is. I'll start the game with Veronica Lodge." Cheryl turns to her.
"Naturally."
"Let's begin with the day you and your mob wife of a mother came to town for a so-called 'fresh start.' Tell us, Veronica, what's so fresh about defiling Archie Andrews in a closet?"
"That was your doing." Veronica is speaking logic unlike some other people in the room.
"Moving on to your dear Daddy Lodge, isn't it true that your father, from prison, illegally purchased the drive-in land? Which makes me wonder. What else is he doing from behind bars?" Cheryl paces in front of her.
Veronica squints her eyes at her, "Well, I can't speak for my father, but I can think of someone with a very dirty secret. Specifically, Cheryl killing her very own brother."
I laugh for the first time that night. Veronica really went there! This is gonna get good! I just need that left over popcorn from the movie.
"Shut up Orphan Y/N! Everyone knows how much I loved my brother." Cheryl stares her down with one hand on her hip. This could turn nasty in a matter of seconds.
"Exactly. But did you love him maybe in ways that a sister should love a brother? And as you got older, Jason started to think it was strange, unnatural. So he chose Polly over you. So you shot him between the eyes with one of your father's many hunting riffles." Veronica is the one that is suppose to be exposed during this round but it's quite the opposite.
"This is riveting, I cant breathe." Kevin says loudly.
Cheryl wipes her eyes and Dilton walks forward, "This game is sick! I wanna go next."
"That's the spirit, Doiley. What secrets do you you have to reveal to us?" Chuck crosses his arms achieving his goals.
"I saw Ms.Grundy's car by Sweetwater River, the day Jason went missing. I told Betty and Jughead after they with no doubt told Y/N! Afterwards Ms.Grundy quit her job and left Riverdale like two days later. And let's not forget that Archie was also at Sweetwater that morning." Dilton admits the one thing we don't need right now.
Cheryl turns around to look at drunk Archie, "Oh my god, color me shocked, Archie Andrews. Is that why you become a mediocre musician overnight? Because you and Ms.Four-Eyes were pulling a Mary Kay Letourneau?"
"Don't say anything, Archie. Don't get in the gutter with them." Veronica whispers.
"Wait what? Andrews was banging a teacher? Well, damn, I wish I would have know. I would've added you and Ms.Grundy to the book of conquests." Chuck is smiling at Archie and giving Betty a couple sinister glances.
"Classy, Chuck, as always."
"Wait a second, that also explains why Archie can't seem to keep a girlfriend to save his life. He's got serious Mommy issues. Anything to say for yourself, Arch? Were you a victim or perpetrator?" Cheryl adjusts her fluffy white jacket.
I want nothing more than to rip that stupid thing off her and strip her of the riches she has.
"Dilton Doiley plays with guns." Betty tries to take the attention away from Archie.
Cheryl scowls, "Big whoop, Betty. So Doiley's a psychopath, everyone knows that."
"Well, I guess it's my turn now," Chuck looks at Betty, "Boy, do I have a twisted secret to reveal. Staring Betty Cooper."
"Leave her the hell alone, Chuck!" I yell at him.
"Shut up L/N." He yells, "Look, you may get a free peep show every night, but you do not know her. Hell, Betty doesn't even know herself. Everybody knows why I got suspended. But what you don't know, she dressed up like a hooker in a god-awful black wig, drugged me, handcuffed me in the Jacuzzi, and I almost drowned until she got me to say what she wanted to hear. And then she really lost it. She actually thought she was Polly! You know who helped her? Y/N and Veronica!"
"Very nice story Chuck," Cheryl laughs, "It's now Y/N's turn. So did you know that she is going the Serpents? She wants to be a drug dealer just like them!"
"Shut up Cheryl, your brother wasn't any better." I bite my lip.
Cheryl looks away so Chuck finishes for her "Did you also know her mother and father were Serpents too? Her dad is a drunk and would hit her! But you knew that, right, Jughead?"
Jughead runs at Chuck and punches him in the face making him stop. Chuck punches him back with such force Jughead falls into the coffee table shattering it. I get up and rush to his side making sure he is ok.
FP drags Chuck out of the party, "What are you looking at? Party's done! It's over! Go home!" He yells from outside.
Jughead shakes his head and gets up leaving me in the room alone. He grabs his jacket and leaves the trashed house. I lean against the wall and cry into my knees.
The rest of the school leaves and goes home. I'm glad they are gone but now my most likely ex-boyfriend is too.
Arms wrap around me pulling me close to them. I let them hold me close to their heart and I crying their chest. My shaking sobs rattle my world. I take a couple deep breathes in and smell the familiar scent of coffee and old books. "Jughead?" I whisper.
"I'm sorry Y/N. I didn't mean any of this. I just got mad at Betty for this awful party and took out my anger on you. You don't deserve my behavior at all. Gosh I wish I could go back and stop myself from saying those things." He kisses my forehead.
"I'm sorry too. I shouldn't have let Betty do this to you. I know you hate this day a lot but it's still yours and we should have thought about what you want." I sigh into his chest.
He nods "You're joining the Serpents."
"I am Jug. That's another thing I'm sorry for. Not letting you in on a big decision that affects the both of us. So far it isn't that bad. Only taking care of that dog, yelling some laws, and getting a knife from a snake."
Jughead rests his chin on my head, "Your saying getting a knife from a snake isn't that bad? Is that what the bandage is for?"
"Yes but the snake isn't poisonous."
"Why do you want to be a Serpent? It's not a bad thing Y/N. I'll support you in anything you do."
"I just want to honor my mom and the protection isn't half bad. Also the people. I met a girl named Toni and a guy named Sweet Pea." I yawn.
"Sweet Pea?" He asks me jealously
I chuckle, "No need to be jealous. I'm yours and only yours beside he isn't my type. I like weirdos."
He smiles at me, "I like my weirdos too."
"Can we go to bed? It's like three am."
"Or it's 11 but I'd a say yes to both." Jughead picks me up and carries me down to the basement. He sets me down on the bed.
"You know I could just walk."
"Yes but you look really cute in my arms." Jughead lyes down next to me and hugs me.
I cuddle with him, "Good night, Juggie."
"Goodnight Beautiful."
