Chapter 26✔︎
Y/N PoV
Fred and Hermione exit the office baffled at the teenager ready to work walking towards them, "What is this?" Fred puts on a hard hat.
"Your new crew, reporting for duty." Archie swings the tool box he's holding back and forth happily.
"I appreciate it, I do, but isn't there something more important you need to be doing? Like going to school, playing football?"
"We can work after practice and on weekends until you find a new crew help keep things on schedule. Come on, dad. I worked for you all summer. Y/N's plan is a good one. And these guys"
"And girl!" I speak up.
"We're bruiser studs, Mr. Andrews" Moose looks at me and Jughead jokingly, "At least some of us are."
"Come on. Desperate times, Fred, huh?" Hermione actually wants us to help out, shocking!
Fred sighs and looks out to the site, "All right. Here we go."
We leave the office and trail him to some rocks that need to be carried away. I grab some heavy rocks and bring them over to a wheel barrow. The boys do the same, "This is awesome! Moving rocks beats working out in our crappy weight room. Hey, Keller! Looking good, looking buff. We should get you on the team."
I throw some rocks into the wheel barrow with Kevin doing the same, "I prefer my contact sports one-on-one, you know, like boxing."
The crew smiles at him and leaves the group to get more rocks. Archie, Jughead, and I wheel them over to a discard pile.
"Pretty handy with that wheel barrow, Archie. You know, if the while music thing doesn't pan out, you can always have manual labor as a fallback." Jughead adjust the gloves on his hands.
Archie smiles, "Don't even joke. I did this all summer long, remember? My dad loves this kind of work and I love him, but"
"We know, music is your passion." I walk along side the tippy cart.
"And your dad's path isn't for you. Trust me I get it."
"He works his ass off for me, bro, but never asks for anything. Always has my back, even when I mess up. So if having his back means I gotta haul some rocks, then bring it on." Archie smiles at us.
"Agreed. Your dad's got my back, too. More than some people." Jughead tells him.
I pat Jughead on the back.
"Exactly," Archie sets the wheel barrow down.
Hours later Fred calls for us to stop working and join him in the office. I sigh happily and lay down on the dirt. Every muscle in my body is numb with tiredness. I don't wanna look at a rock again.
Jughead strides over to me, "Tired?" He stands over top of me.
"Yes. I worked just as hard you guys and you guys have more muscle," I reach my hand up, "Carry me?" I ask hopefully.
He laughs, "Sure." Jughead lifts me off the ground and slings me over his shoulder.
"How are you not tired?" I giggle.
"Like you said, I have muscles plus I worked with Archie and he wants to do most of the work." He carries me back to the office and sets me down on the couch.
"Hey, guys, you were a life-saver today. I really appreciate it. Hard hats go in the bin, and there's sodas in the fridge." Fred writes something down in a book.
Jughead takes our hats and puts them in the bin. Moose looks in his pockets for something, "Crap! Hey, guys, I forgot my phone."
I look in my pockets for mine. "Ugh! I forgot mine too. Be right back." I somehow get up with my tired body.
Moose and I go over to find our phones but instead of our phones there are two people dressed in black destroying some equipment. "Hey!" Moose yells at them.
"Get away from there!" I scream at them.
Both of the people run at us and attack us. I get hit in the head and stomach a couple times. Moose gets the same treatment as me. I fall to the ground as the rest of the crew runs towards us.
Jughead falls to my side and puts his hand on my cheek, "Y/N! Are you ok?" He sounds so worried about me.
I try to sit up like Moose but Jughead pulls my head back down on his lap. "I've been better."
Jughead plays with my hair, "Who did this?"
"No idea but they said they will come back if we continue to work." I feel a sticky liquid dripping down my face. The smell makes me dizzy like usual.
He tries to wipe it off with his sleeve but Jughead only smears it more making the smell stronger.
The stink of blood is awful. It makes me feel so queasy. I shut my eyes to stop the spinning.
"Get the first aide kit Archie!" Jughead demands.
Archie listens and comes back moments later with it.
Jughead takes some gauze and a towel to stop the bleeding. He presses it against my head. This helps to block the smell.
I open my eyes, "You need to call Keller. How is Moose?"
"Well Moose is fine he's a football player. He knows how to take the hits and Kevin is calling his dad now." Jughead takes the towel off and cleans my wound. "When I find whoever did this to you I will kill them!"
"Hey, it's ok Jug. I'm fine so please don't kill anybody." I sit up and Jughead helps me over to a pipe to sit on.
He wraps my head in a comfortable bandage.
The Sheriff arrives to the scene lights blaring. He gets out, "What the hell happened?"
"Moose and Y/N, over there, caught a couple of guys working over my equipment with a crowbar and then they got the drop on them." Fred explains for the rest of us.
"Who were they, vandals?"
"Clifford Blossom has made it abundantly clear he would love nothing more than to see this while project go belly-up." Fred sticks his hands in his pockets looking at the damage.
Ask usual Sheriff Keller defends the Blossoms, "I doubt that Blossom's Gibbs hire some thugs to bust up your site and beat up some teenagers."
"Maybe it wasn't him," Archie gets up, "I mean, this is Serpent territory, right? Maybe it was them. Pissed that they had to leave 'cause of this project."
"Serpents?" Kevin asks.
"Yeah."
Jughead walks over to them, "When I worked at the drive in, the Serpents never bugged me."
Keller looks skeptical about our theory, "Did you see any snake tattoos, anything in their jackets?"
"It happened pretty fast." Moose holds an ice pack over his head.
I shake my head, "No snakes at all for sure."
"All right, I'll talk to Blossom but I mean I don't think we'll get anywhere unless we can ID these guys."
Archie puts his hands on his hips, "That is such bull. If this was Clifford Blossom asking for help, you would say yes."
Fred attempts to cool him down, "Archie."
"What, dad? It's true."
"It's also not helping." Fred looks up at the sheriff apologetically.
Sheriff Keller shrugs and takes Kevin with him. They leave the construction site.
I hold my head in my hands. The world hasn't stopped spinning yet. "Archie is right though. He would say yes to Clifford. I mean, who doesn't?"
Jughead plops down next to me, "Do you wanna go home?"
"Yes, carry me?"
He chuckles, "That's the Y/N I know." Jughead carries me bridal style to the Andrew's truck. He puts me inside and gets in so my head is his lap. Jug plays with my hair and the Andrew men get in. "I'm sorry this happened Y/N." Fred drives us away from the site.
"It's fine dad. I'm okay." That was a lie though. The world is still twisting and turning. My head hurts a lot.
We get back to the house and Jughead takes me down stairs. I change into some pajamas and make myself comfy on the bed.
Jughead comes in and sets down beside me. He holds me and hums a random song. I fall asleep next to the person I love.
