Chapter 18✔︎

Y/N PoV
I wake up to the sound of Jughead humming my favorite song. This makes me grin. Jug isn't the best singer but he knows how to make my heart flutter.

He has his arms around my waist keeping me close. Jughead gives me a kiss on the forehead when he sees my eyes flicker open. "Good morning."

"Morning Juggie." I snuggle in his chest. He gives me a another sweet kiss. Jughead trances different patterns on my arms softly.

"Morning Y/N. Can we stay here all day?" He asks.

"The memorial is today...Veronica went to Thornhill for a sleepover last night. She really wanted me to come with but there is no way I'm staying with a witch like Cheryl. I can't leave her hanging this time..."

Jughead groans and pulls me closer.

I peck his cheek and wiggle out of his tight grip. I head down the hall to the kitchen to make some pancakes for us.

The batter didn't take very long because I used the box mix. I move to the stove and pour the batter into the sizzling pan.

I feel arms wrap around my waist from behind. Jughead hides his face into my H/C hair. I continue on with making the fluffy pancakes.

As one of the pancakes are cooking Jughead turns me around. He traps me between him and the counter. Jug kisses me affectionately trying to distract me from the memorial.

I smile into the kiss and pull back, "The pancakes are gonna burn."

"Oh I'm sure we can let one or two get a little toasty."

My head starts to shake no. "We both know if we start...we won't stop in time for the memorial." I put the golden pancake onto the plate for him. "Go eat your food."

Jughead sticks his tongue out playfully at me and takes his plate to the table. I hold back my smile as I finish the last pancake.

We dig into our delicious breakfast, "So Betty and I are going to be doing some investigating at the ceremony would you like to join us?"

"And what would this include?" I pour some more syrup onto my pancakes. They taste a lot better with a bunch of syrup in my opinion.

"We are going to sneak into Jason's room and look for something that could give us lead." Jughead mumbles with pancake stuffed in his mouth.

I shrug, "Sure why not?"

We finish our breakfast with some talk of Jason and his possible murder suspects. I clean up the mess I made and go to my room to change. I decide to wear a simple black dress I borrowed from Betty a while ago.

This is the outfit^

I put on my make up quickly. Afterwards I manage to tame my wild hair into a braid. I look into the mirror and smile.

Jughead knocks on the bathroom door lightly, "You ready?"

I walk out of my bathroom and grab my purse. Jughead bites his lip and looks me up and down.

"Enjoying the scenery?" I smile at him.

He blushes a deep red, "Yeah its very beautiful."

I giggle. "Lets go loverboy. We have an investigation to get to." I weave our fingers together.

We leave the apartment and get a ride from the Andrews. Fred looks over at mine and Jughead's hands, "So are you two...?"

"Yes Fred we are dating." I say with big grin.

"That's nice." He tells us then turns to Jughead, "You better not break my daughters heart young man."

My face beams with happiness. Fred just called me his daughter. I do have a dad in my life after all.

"Don't worry Mr.Andrews. I wouldn't even think of it." Jughead squeezes my hand.

The truck arrives at Thistle House with a screeching halt. Fred shakes his head, "I need to get those brakes looked at."

I get out of the pickup and the aura changes immediately. Penelope is at the door greeting people with a stern grimace plastered on her face.

Jughead and I walk into the house after giving the Blossom's our condolences. I take a seat in the back with the rest of the Sad Breakfast Club. Archie gets up and stumbles over to Penelope.

"I'm so sorry for your loss, Mrs.Blossom. I thought you might want to have this." Archie holds out the neatly folded jersey.

She looks into Archie's eyes tearfully, "You're so much like him." Penelope strokes his cheek and his hair contently.

We look at them strangely. This got very odd very quickly.

Penelope realizes what's she is doing and looks down at the jersey, "Oh, I'm sorry. Thank you, Archibald."

Archie hands her the jersey and walks back over to us glancing back at the woman. He sits down next to Kevin.

"Did she just touch your hair?" Kevin raises his eyebrows.

Betty puts an arm on Archie's shoulder, "That was really sweet what you did."

"She deserves it. More than I do." Archie plays with his fingers awkwardly.

Veronica approaches us quietly, "Days like today really put things into perspective, huh? I mean at least we're here. At least we are alive." She sits down in front of us. V smooths out her skirt.

I take a breathe and lay my head on Jug's shoulder. I feel bad, not because of Jason dying but the thought of how I really feel, indifferent. There is no sorrow in me.

Murmurs can be heard from the back of the room. Everybody looks behind to see Cheryl entering in a white dress. The one she wore the day of the boat ride. She looks stunning. Not one person in the room doesn't gasp and look horrified.

Veronica stares at Cheryl. "Oh my god."

"Yes." Kevin whispers happily. He loves drama and this has now cause a bunch of it.

My mouth hangs open slightly. I look over at Jug to see the same expression.

Cheryl gives us a short smile, "Welcome to Thornhill. Thank you all for coming. If you'll kindly take your seats." She jesters to the people standing. They obey her. "I'd like to start the memorial with a few words about Jason." Cheryl takes off her gloves and lays them on the podium.

Penelope attempts to get out of her seat to stop her daughter. Clifford tugs her back down into her seat.

Veronica notices her, "You are only going to make things worse." She whispers to her seriously.

Once Cheryl's gloves are off she continues on with her speech, "The last time I saw Jason, I was wearing this dress. I know it's impossible. But I swear, when I put it on, it...feels like he's in the room with me." She looks at the poster of her twin and inhales, "Even though we were twins, I used to demand I have my own birthday party. Until one year, out of the blue, Jason convinced me we had to combine them into one. It wasn't until years later, I found out why. It was because no one wanted to come to mine. And Jason didn't want me to know. He protected me. Every single day. I wish, that day at the river, I had protected him." She starts sobbing and runs over to Jason's coffin. Cheryl puts her hands on it carefully, "I'm so sorry, Jay-Jay. We failed you. All of us."

Veronica rushes over to her and gives Cheryl a hug. The red head cries into Ronnie's shoulder.

Penelope gets up and goes to the podium to stop this madness. "I think we'll adjourn now to the Winter Salon for a light supper."

Everybody in the room gets up and starts their way over to the dinning room. Jug, Betty, and I waited until nobody was looking. Us three run up the stairs making sure no one can see us.

Jason's door was closed. I open it with a loud creek. We enter into the bedroom, "Is it just me or did the temperature just drop like it does in horror movies?"

"That's just the icey chill of the dead." I saunter into the room eyeing all of the random trinkets and such.

Betty stops in her tracks, "Where does a teenage boy hide things?"

Jughead looks under the bed and back up at us, "Under the mattress, maybe in the drawers, behind the headboard, in the closet." He walks over to his bedside table to look into the drawers.

Betty looks in the other table as I look under the mattress.

"Hello." I hear a creepy old voice say from the corner. I jump back up to my feet and walk backwards into Jughead. He puts a hand on my shoulder.

Betty tries to save our mission, "I'm so sorry, we were just leaving."

The old woman smiles at us, "Oh..it's you! How lovely to see you again. Come closer, I wanna get a good look at you." She wheels her chair over to us.

"The horror. The horror." Jughead whispers to us.

I elbow him gently trying to get him to stop.

Betty walks over to her and sits on the bed next to the creepy person.

The lady waves her closer, "Come closer, Polly dear."

"It's nice time see you again, too. I'm sorry it had to be under such terrible circumstances." Betty plays along.

She grabs Betty's hand, "Well, of course you're not wearing it. God bless."

Betty looks at her confused, "Wearing what?"

"The ring Polly. That ring has been in the Blossom family for generations. You keep it close to your heart, always. But don't tell Penelope I gave it to you. Or she'll likely come and snip it off fingers!" She reaches for Betty's hands abruptly making us jump. How can this woman be so terrifying.

Betty starts to tear up, "I won't, I promise." She shakes her head letting a couple tears fall.

The lady shakes her head and sighs, "Such a shame. Your wedding was the last thing I was living for. I lost a grandson, but you, you've lost the love of your young life. Poor child."

Betty gets up unable to take anymore of this, "Excuse me. I have to...I can't..." She rushes out of the cold room.

Jughead and I follow her out. She runs down the stairs outside to where her family is waiting for her. Alice grabs her hand, "Were do you think you were? We are leaving now!" The Cooper family leaves.

I look over at Jughead with big eyes, "Jason and Polly....were going to get married."

"I guess so..." he whispers to me, "Can we go before another lady ambushes us?"

"Please..."

We walk away from the house with many questions. Most of which had to do with Polly. Little did we know, all of them would be answered in a short period of time.
