Chapter 7
My pace quickened as I reached the door. Breathing in deep, I walked in. The room was dim. Weren't hospital rooms normally super bright or something?
"Graham..." A small voice called out from the bed.
I turned my head to her immediately and ran over to her. Placing my hand on hers, I intertwined my fingers with hers. I stared at her. She had a cap covering her head, but it did not seem to be covering something that was swollen. Then again, it has been three days so the swelling must have went down in that time. My eyes trailed from her head to her eyes. They looked the same as the ones I had seen right before she got taken to her surgery. Fear and sadness filled those brown eyes.
"What's wrong Sophia?" I caressed the back of her hand with my thumb.
"I... I'm still scared." Her voice was raspy. "I don't know if I can make it through the recovery time."
"What do you mean?" Arianna stepped to the other side of the bed.
"I feel too weak for this." Tears started to form in her eyes. "I don't know if I can make it..."
"Don't say that." I said quietly. "I know you can."
She shook her head gently and slowly. Closing her eyes and looking down, away from us, she let her tears flow down her face.
Beep.
Beep.
Beep.
I watched as the heart monitor on Arianna's side started to quicken its pace. My eyes shifted back to Sophia who was silently crying, using her free hand to wipe her tears. I let go of her hand and sat on the side of the bed. Gently, I put my hand on her chin, lifting her head so that she would look at me.
"Soph... don't cry okay?" I used my thumb to wipe away the tears on her eyes as her hands fell to her side.
Arianna and I shared a glance and we nodded, having the same idea.
"You must be tired." Arianna said. "Get some rest, we'll stay, don't worry."
"Thank you guys." She looked at us both. "I love you guys very much." She raised her arm, signalling for a hug.
Arianna went in first and rubbed her back to comfort her. They let go, Arianna walked to a chair by the wall while she turned to me with a slight smile on her face. I saw her mouth thank you as she opened her arms to me. I embraced her, holding her as if she were a fragile butterfly. I felt her head turn on my shoulder, her nose brushed against my cheek. Before I knew it, I felt soft lips kissing my cheek, then backing away.
I pulled back and looked at her. Her cheeks began to turn pink and she smiled. I was happy to see her happy and before I knew it, I had scooted closer to her and leaned in. Our lips connected and soon enough, I was leaning in even more. Instead of backing away like I thought she would, like the Sophia I was used to, she got closer to me. Positioning myself beside her on the bed, I put my hand on her back, the other hand trailed down from her face to her arm. I let our hands intertwine as we deepened the kiss.
I felt her hand around my neck, pulling me closer to her. Keeping my arm around her to support her, I let myself get even closer to her. The space between us getting smaller until there was no more space between us. My eyes opened in shock as she pulled one last move before pulling away. The feeling of her tongue grazing over my lips still lingered. I stared at her.
Did she just do that?
She was never that daring. I had no idea she would do that.
I looked at her, she was happy. That's all that mattered at this point. I did not care about what had happened just moments ago. All that mattered was that she was happy now.
"Go to sleep Soph." I said, letting go of her arm and getting off her bed.
I turned and went to sit where Arianna was sitting. She took her earbud out and looked up from her phone and looked at me.
"You guys done now?" She raised a brow.
My cheeks heated up. "Done."
I turned away from her and watched as Sophia fell asleep. Soon enough, I was asleep in the chair as well.
A long beep woke me up and the sound of people rushing in woke me up. What's going on?!
I looked up and to the heart monitor.
No. I thought. This can't be happening.
A nurse got me and Arianna out of the room. I looked back one last time to see many crowding around Sophia.
The last thing I saw was the heart monitor.
She had flatlined.

I'm sorry that it took so long for me to update! I got really busy. I had competitions, practices for a play I'm in, and a lot of homework that piled up.
I hope you enjoyed this!
I'm sorry if something is not actually how things are supposed to work.... I don't know anything about how things really work in hospitals so...
Stay tuned for Chapter 8!
