Chapter 6
Things had finally started to settle down. Clay had come by every chance he got to visit Hannah while she was in the hospital. He even offered to help out with the Baker's store as well.
It was finally the day that Hannah was able to go home, and she had personally requested that Clay acompany the ride from the hospital back to their house.
Clay had also started keeping to himself a little bit these days, not mentioning anything to Hannah or the Bakers about his sudden constant nightmares, the occasional voice in his head, or the hallucinations he sometimes gets. He had, however; mentioned those things to his parents after he woke up from the fourth nightmare he had experienced.
Clay cleared his thoughts as he saw Hannah exit the small hospital room and walk over to him. "Hey, Helmet." She greeted with a smile. "Hey, Baker." Clay greeted with a smile that was slightly smaller than Hannah's. "You ready to get out of here?" He asked after noticing the confused look Hannah gave him, realizing that she probably saw right through his smile. "Definitely!" She exclaimed, pushing the small matter away as she smiled again. "Ok, papers have been signed, so you are officially free to go." Mr. Baker announced as he walked over to Hannah and Clay, closely followed by his wife. "Finally! Let's go!" Hannah cheered happily as she took a hold of Clay's hand and dragged him out towards the hospital parking lot where the Baker's car was waiting.
Hannah didn't say anything about it, but she knew something was up with Clay when he was pretty quiet during the car ride, only really talking when someone addressed him first. She also remembered his smile from earlier, and how it was not as bright and big as his normal smile. As they pulled into the driveway of the Baker's house, Clay slowly got out of the car before going over and opening the door for Hannah as she stepped out. Smiling at him in silent thanks, she noticed how his smile never reached his eyes like it usually does. She also took notice of the way he glanced at the house, almost seeming hesitant to go near it. "Clay? Are you ok?" Mrs. Baker asked, seeming to notice this too. "Yeah, I'm fine." Clay said, brushing the topic off. Hannah shared a look with her mom, not fully believing him, but dropping the subject for now.
After entering the house, Hannah and Clay made their way up to her room. Hannah was mindlessly rambling about something as Clay walked behind her. She stopped at her door frame, glancing back to see Clay blankly staring into a room a few feet away. "Clay?" She asked, trying to get his attention but failing. "Helmet?" She tried again as she slowly approached him.
She stopped when she was right beside him. Glancing into the room he was staring at, she realized it was the bathroom. Glancing at his face, she noticed his it housed a zoned out look combined with a fearful one. "Everything alright up here?" A voice asked, gaining Hannah's attention as she glanced over to see her mom walking over to them. "Honestly, I'm not sure." Hannah said as her mom stopped on the other side of a still-zoned-out Clay. Waving her hand in front of his face, Hannah still got no reaction from him as he continued to stare blankly into the room. "Maybe we should call his mom?" Hannah suggested unsure. "Yeah, I think so. I'll go call her now." Mrs. Baker said, watching an unmoving Clay for another second before pulling her phone out of her pocket and walking away.
So, I just wanted to touch on what I feel would happen to Clay if this really happened. I'm not experienced with PTSD, but I did some research on the semptoms for it. Hope you liked this chapter! Comments and feedback are definitely appreciated!
