Chapter 16
Clay stared ahead of him in fear. He watched as Hannah was sitting on the roof of the crestmont with Bryce Walker trying to have his messed up fun. "Come on, Baker. I know you want me." Bryce said with a smirk as he placed his hand on her thigh. Not being able to find words, Hannah roughly pushed his hand away. Bryce then stood up quickly. "Alright. But seeing as you are the class slut, give me a call when you change your mind." Bryce said.
Finding an anger inside of him, Clay took action. "Bryce, get away from her!" Clay yelled. "Or what, Jensen? What are you going to do?" Bryce questioned. "I am going to break both your arms and both your legs. Then I'll break your neck."
Clay said confidently. Bryce just laughed at his response. This only angered Clay more as he ran towards Bryce, tackling him off the side of the Crestmont building. "Clay!" Hannah gasped as she saw the two hit the ground, Bryce landing on his back with Clay on top of him. Hannah watched carefully, waiting for one of them - mainly Clay - to move. A small glimer of hope swelled inside her when she saw Clay slowly start to move, appearing to be in a daze from the hard fall.
As Clay slowly got off of Bryce, he saw Bryce start to slowly move too. As soon as Bryce was able to get up to his knees, he threw a punch at Clay, knocking him to the ground again. Still dazed, Clay wasn't able to get up again before Bryce threw another punch at him.
After taking a few punches from Bryce, Clay was finally able to through a punch at Bryce, knocking him back a few steps. Now having the upper hand, Clay went for one of Bryce's legs, easily breaking it, just like he said he's do. Bryce yelled out in pain when he felt the snap in his leg. He still managed to get up but limped a little. When Bryce had his back towards Clay, Clay took the oportunity and went to break one of Bryce's arms, his attempt being successful as he heard a snap, followed by Bryce yelling out in pain again.
Not too long after, Clay had managed to break both of Bryce's arms and legs, leaving the neck last. He had been able to keep the upper hand as he now stood beside Bryce, holding his head up to make him look right at him. "I told you what would happen if you ever tried anything with Hannah again." Clay told Bryce. Bryce could only stare up at Clay, waiting for him to deliver the blow that would break his neck. Not saying anything else, Clay brought his fist down on Bryce, breaking his neck and letting him fall to the ground.
Clay walke a few steps before slowly moving to lie on the ground, feeling his energy leave him. "Clay!" He heard a familiar voice yell his name, followed by the sound of rushed footsteps. Not making an effort to get up, Clay stayed on the ground as he heard the person getting closer. When he saw a frame enter his dazed vision, he recognized it as Hannah Baker. "You just fell from the roof of the Crestmont." She said in shock. Seeing how he was still a bit dazed, she moved to kneel next to him, getting him to stay focused on her.
Clay shot up in his bed, feeling slightly warm. He glanced around his surroundings, realizing that he was in his bedroom. He glanced down at his shirt, seeing it coated in some sweat. "It was all a dream." He told himself as he slowly got out of bed and went to get some clean clothes to change into for the day. Deciding to check the time, Clay checked his phone. When he unlocked it, he saw a text from Hannah. Smiling to himself, he opened her text.
Hannah: Morning, Clay.
Helmet: Morning, Hannah.
Hannah: Since today's Saturday, do you maybe want to do something?
Helmet: Sure. How about we meet up somewhere in 45?
Hannah: Sounds good. Monet's?
Helmet: Monet's it is. See you there, Baker.
After getting a response from Hannah, Clay went downstairs and greeted his parents as he got himself some breakfast. "So. Got any plans for today?" His dad asked. "Actually, Hannah wanted to meet up and do something today." Clay replied. "Hannah seems like a nice girl." His mom said with a smile. "Yeah, she is." Clay said with a small smile spreading across his face. "Is her last name by any chance Baker?" Clay's mom asked. "Yeah. Why do you ask?" Clay asked curiously. "Because I got a call earlier from Andy and Olivia Baker wanting to hire me as their lawyer for when they sue the school." Clay's mom said. "Why do they want to sue the school?" Clay's dad asked. "I don't know yet. They want to meet later today to talk about it though." Clay's mom replied. "Do you know anything about this, Clay?" Clay's mom asked him. Clay sighed. "Actually, yes. But before you ask, it's not my story to tell." Clay replied. Clay's mom sighed but nodded in understanding. "Well, I should get going." Clay said as he put his dishes in the dish washer after washing them in the sink. "Ok." "Have fun." His parents replied. Clay gave them a small smile before going outside, silently debating with himself about if he should take his bike or just walk. After a minute, Clay decided to just walk as he walked down his driveway and headed towards Monet's to meet Hannah.
I apologize for not updating for a while! My uncle's in town, so I haven't had much free time for writing. Anyway, here's chapter 16! Also, Clay's dream was inspired by a scene in the "Jack Reacher: Never Go Back" movie with Tom Cruise.
