Chapter 42
Eliza's pov
I think I am ready, or not. I was not looking forward for this day at all. Family dinners never ended well with mine. And I am sure this is not going to be any different either.
"You are leaving already?" Seokjin asked, seeing me all dressed up.
"Yup, can't wait to go." I squealed in fake enthusiasm.
"It's going to be great." He said as I got in the car.
The hotel was luxurious as expected from my father. I walked to the entrance to get to our reserved seats while drinking in the beautiful interior of the building. It was mesmerising.
"Ela you are right on time." My mom began once she saw me. I smiled and greeted them while taking a seat beside Emily and in front of Jenna. I was the last to arrive. Jenna had Jayden on her lap while Evan was trying to get him to drink milk. Jay just like me, hated milk.
The dinner was silent except for the occasional small talks and whining of Jayden as expected of a two year old kiddo.
"Ela, I didn't know you were that close with the guy?" I heard my dad speak while I was telling Jenna about Seokjin helping me learn to drive.
"Who? Seokjin?" I asked.
"Well I guess you must be. I forgot that you were already on a first name basis." He mocked and it was actually starting to burn inside me. Why did I expect this to be a normal evening?
"You can't expect me to call him Mr. Kim when he is living right under my nose, can you?" I asked with a forced smile.
"You know, I never expected this from you. I am so...I don't know what to say."
"Let me help you. Disappointed. Isn't that what you were going to say?" I shot back.
"Ela stop." My mom whispered. Not wanting to start an argument so I didn't say anything further. I sighed and started picking on the veggies already losing my appetite.
"I want you to stay focused on your studies rather than drinking your life away." Well my dad was not planning on quitting this lecture.
"I don't even drink dad." I sighed. Why is he targeting solely on me.
"Your grades are low and I think you are distracted from whatever the reasons in that house." He grunted and I understood where he was going with this conversation.
"Seriously dad? Is that all you think of me? Who am I kidding? You always cared only about your stupid work and your kids' grades. And why are you assuming when you don't even know a single thing about us?" I scoffed my eyes fuming in anger. Evan tried to stop me, but I know if I keep quiet dad is gonna push me to the edge.
"Don't raise your voice. You are embarrassing me." He spat.
"That's it. I am leaving. Have a nice dinner....don't want me to ruin your already ruined perfect family." I stood up from my chair Ema was pleading with her eyes but I wasn't ready to stay back not after what happened.
I left the hotel and immediately drove back to home. My eyes were threatening to spill the tears but I held it in till I reached the car where I broke down. This was not what I wanted. I love my parents, my family. But there are many things that I can never accept in there. Others managed to move on from the hateful past and live with their life but I just can't, not even if I wanted to. The pain was too much.
I reached home and the first thing I saw was a concerned Seokjin standing on the doorway. He must have already noticed my red eyes and cheeks. I didn't want anyone to see me in this state. I have always wanted to be that strong girl who always jokes around and remains tough through hard times.
"Hey, it's okay. Emily called me. Come here." That being said he pulled me into a big hug. He comfortingly patted my back while I held onto him tighter. I tried to hold in my sobs not wanting to be weak, this gesture from him was already big enough.
"It's okay. You are okay. You don't need to hold it in. I am here for you." He tightened his hold on me making me feel safer in his embrace. Without being able to hold it in any longer I broke down sobbing uncontrollably in his arms.
Memories from the past rushed through me, hitting me like a truck. Every emotions I was holding back all these years rushed to the surface making me an emotional wreck. Only his soft voice and comforting hug held me strongly from having a complete mental breakdown.
We stayed like that for minutes which actually felt like hours. Slowly my sobs quietened down and I started to recover from the wreck I have been for the past few moments. I slowly pulled away keeping my head down low not wanting him to see my face in this state. His hands still resting on both sides of my shoulder.
"I am sorry you had to see me in this state. Thank you for staying." I told him refusing to look him in the face. I felt pathetic for crying like this but at the same time I can't deny the comfort I got from him.
"I am glad I got to see you even in this state. It only makes me want to know you more and be with you. I know there is a lot going on with you than you are letting in on others to see. With time everything is going to be alright. And till then you will always have me to hold you tight like this and help you get through this without ever letting you go." He assured with those gentle words of his. He pulled me closer for one last time and kissed my forehead with a small caring smile.
I believe every word he told me and I trust him more than I trust myself. He cares for me so much that it is overwhelming and irresistible at the same time. I was happy to have him as a part of my life. I was so sure I didn't make a mistake in falling in love with a precious soul like his. And I will never let him go either, I promised myself. I will work hard to deserve him, deserve his love.
