Jeno glanced sideways at Jaemin while he walked up to the reception desk with him in the main atrium of the hospital. Jaemin was hugging his arms, digging his fingernails into the soft fabric of his baby pink jumper. He looked agitated and Jeno could tell he really didn't want to be here.

His mother had picked them up from school and brought them to the hospital. Jeno looked over his shoulder to where she was now sitting in a chair along the tall glass windows that lined the front of the hospital building. She had said she would wait for them while they came to visit Jungwoo and Jeno was grateful for that; it made him feel just a little more at ease.

He brought his attention back to the lady at the counter and waited while she found out what floor Jungwoo was on.

“Kim Jungwoo?” The woman asked.

“Yes.” Jeno nodded.

The woman typed on her keyboard and her eyes scanned the screen for a few moments before she replied.

“Kim Jungwoo is on the fifth floor, room 551.” She said.

Jeno thanked her and bowed his head politely and then he and Jaemin walked back over to his mother.

“Jungwoo's on the fifth floor. We won't be too long, as he probably needs to rest.” He told her.

His mother took his hand in hers and gave it a quick squeeze.

“That's okay honey, you two take your time, I'll be waiting here for you.” She responded.

“Thanks mum.” Jeno replied and stepped forward to give her a hug.

Then he gently pried one of Jaemin's hands from his arm and holding it tight, led him over to the elevators. The tips of his fingers were slightly cold against his hand.

“Jeno, I'm worried.” Jaemin whispered as he clung onto Jeno's hand while they travelled up in the elevator.

“I know, me too. But we have to be there for Jungwoo so he knows we're here by his side.” Jeno replied.

He didn't want another repeat of last time, so he had to make sure Jaemin had his emotions and his nerves under control. Keeping him calm was the most important thing right now.

They soon reached the fifth floor and Jeno could practically feel the anxiety radiating off of Jaemin.

“It's okay,” Jeno told him as they walked to the nurses station, “We'll see Jungwoo, make sure he's doing okay and then head home.” He said, trying his best to calm Jaemin's nerves.

It didn't appear to be working though. Jaemin looked pale and scared and Jeno worried. Maybe he should have just left him downstairs with his mother?

Jeno felt Jaemin cling tightly to his arm while he spoke to one of the nurses and placed his own hand overtop his. He was finding it difficult to focus on both Jaemin and what the nurse was saying at the same time.

“Jae, this nurse is going to show us to Jungwoo's room okay?” He said softly, caressing the side of Jaemin's face.

Jaemin turned his head and his eyes slowly focused on him. Jeno gave him an encouraging look and waited as he slowly sucked in a breath, held it for four seconds and then slowly exhaled, following what Jeno had told him to do when he felt he was starting to panic.

Jeno smiled warmly and he gently placed a kiss on Jaemin's forehead. It was warming to see Jaemin not letting his thoughts get the best of him; to see him fight to stay in control.

He turned back to the nurse.

“Okay, we're ready.” He said.

The nurse smiled kindly at them both and started walking down the hallway. She stopped when she reached a closed door and turned to speak to them.

“Doyoung is already with Jungwoo, keeping him company until he wakes up. You're welcome to sit with him as well. We're all hoping his condition improves soon.” She said.

Jeno frowned and shot a worried glance at Jaemin, whose big brown eyes mirrored his own emotions. The nurse looked at them in confusion for a moment and then let out a small squeak of surprise as she brought her hand up to cover her mouth.

“Oh my gosh, I'm sorry have you not yet been informed of Jungwoo's condition?” She asked solemnly.

Both boys shook their heads and the nurse's features darkened with sadness. She looked towards the door while she spoke.

“Jungwoo is currently in a coma. He's suffered fractures to his face and jaw and had some swelling of his brain but we're hoping he will recover quicker as he's in a coma, so his body can focus on healing itself.” She explained.

Jeno gasped and Jaemin suddenly stepped forward and grabbed hold of the nurse's uniform with both hands. “Is he going to die?!” He cried as he shook her.

“Jae, calm down!” Jeno wrapped his arms around him. He prised his hands from the nurse and rocked him gently.

In the commotion the door to Jungwoo's room was pulled open and Doyoung appeared with a concerned expression on his face. His features lightened as he recognized his friends.

“Jaemin, Jeno,” He wrapped his arms around his two friends and hugged them tightly.

As he let go though, Jeno could see the sorrow in his red, puffy eyes. He had been crying.

It's going to be okay, Jeno wanted to tell him, but he felt doubt swirling in the pit of his stomach. He grabbed hold of Doyoung's and Jaemin's hands and together they stepped inside Jungwoo's room.

As soon as Jeno laid eyes on Jungwoo he gasped. Next to him Jaemin let out a small sob and covered his mouth with his free hand.

Doyoung let go of Jeno's hand and swept over to sit down in the seat right next to Jungwoo's bed. He cradled Jungwoo's hand in his own and Jeno could see tears forming at the corner of his eyes as he spoke.

“They say he's not in any pain, not anymore, but seeing him like this-” He turned his face away from Jungwoo as the grief inside him became too much, “-how can I believe that he's going to be okay?” He sobbed.

Tears of his own were now running freely down Jeno's cheeks and he rushed over to console Doyoung, pulling Jaemin with him too. He and Jaemin wrapped their arms around him while Doyoung cried. His long, delicate fingers clasping desperately onto Jeno's arm for support. He sobbed loudly, his shoulders shaking and his breath hitching as all the grief and sadness he was feeling flowed out of him in an unrelenting torrent of tears.

Gradually, Doyoung's tears dried up and his sobs were replaced by quiet hiccuping. Jeno continued to hold onto him; if Doyoung was going to fall apart he would make sure he would be the one to keep his pieces together and stop his soul from shattering helplessly into a million pieces. Jungwoo needed Doyoung when he wakes up, and Doyoung needed him. He rested his head on Doyoung's shoulder, knowing there was nothing he could say to help the situation.

His eyes fell on Jaemin who was on Doyoung's other side, his head also resting against Doyoung's shoulder. Jeno reached over and placed a hand on Jaemin's upper arm and his boyfriend's eyes flicked up to meet his. They were glossy with tears.

You okay? Jeno mouthed to him. Jaemin gave a slight nod and Jeno could only assume that he was as good as he could be right now. Then Jaemin readjusted himself and slowly drew back from their three-way embrace.

“I need to use the bathroom.” He said.

Jeno lifted his head and the movement caused Doyoung to look up also.

“Do you want me to come with you?” Jeno asked. He felt torn; he didn't want to leave Doyoung alone right now but he also didn't want Jaemin to leave his side.

“I'll only be a few minutes and I'll be right back. I think I saw a bathroom just down the hallway.” Jaemin replied. He gave Jeno a faint smile and Jeno relinquished.

“Okay but don't be too long.” He reiterated.

Jaemin nodded and Jeno watched him while he walked over to the door, stepped out into the hallway and quietly pulled it shut behind him.

“I hope he wakes up soon.” Doyoung whispered, bringing Jeno's attention back to him.

Doyoung was staring at Jungwoo while he lay in bed covered in bandaging, the machines he was hooked up to whirring and beeping every so often. Jeno placed his head back against Doyoung, resting his chin on his shoulder.

“I do too.” He agreed.
