Chapter 6
“Dad—I mean Alpha, put you in almost all of my classes. I think there is like two he couldn’t get me into with you. It’s just in case anything happens. It’s standard procedure with everyone in my pack. I am always near if they need help.”
“Well I guess this should be interesting, huh.” Hmm, English, Science, Math, Lunch, History, Fighting., and AP P.E.. What in the world did the last two mean. Fighting and advanced placement p.e. This school is pretty weird! Nothing like at home.
“Don’t forget, you have class with me after your seventh period. I teach you everything you need to know about wolves.” Corey spoke up from reading his newspaper.
“Alright, where do I meet you then?” I asked.
“Don’t worry, you’ll know later.” He spoke smiling.
I raised an eyebrow at him. Could this day get any weirder?
After breakfast, all of us, us being everyone in the dorms, set out to their classes. Julia, Tyler, and I had english together. It was on the ground floor and had huge windows to it. The room was pretty big and probably seated around 50 students. The seats were sat in rows like the bigger colleges do. The ones in the back were elevated and the ones in the front sta on the ground. Luckily for me, Julia and Tyler have been sitting in the back the whole year and didn’t want to stop now. I always hated sitting in the front. The teachers always managed to ‘target’ people, as I like to say. What I meant by that was that they would look for the closest people to them and you happened to be eye level and not hidden behind anything. You were first pick.
Mrs. Renar walked in. She was a preppy little teacher. She looked pretty nice. Her heals clicked and clacked along the floor as she made her way in to her desk. She wore a skirt that hung half way to her calves. Her white button down shirt was tucked in. She must have woke up late because her reddish brown hair was pulled up into a messy bun. 50’s. that’s how old I would have guessed she was. Her face was full of wrinkles.
“Good morning class. Sorry I am late. Apparenly, we have a new student and I had to go pick up her paperwork.” Her voice was light and nice. I think I would deffinetly like this teacher.
“She’s an old wolf.” Tyler whispered. “She’s a night guard who helps watch the perimeters at night.”
Sweet, a wolf as a teacher. This would be fun afterall.
“Is there a Kallista Santers here?”
“It’s Kally.” I stated kindly, not snoby like I so very much wanted to. I hated when people used my full name. it always bothered me.
“Excuse me, Kally. You match your name well.” She smiled up to me. I raised an eyebrow. I never knew what my name meant. I guess she’s an English teacher and it’s her job to know name deffinitions and word deffinitions. “It’s Greek, meaning Beautiful and lovely.”
“Thanks.” Awkwarddddddd.
For a good 10 or 15 minutes, she spent spreading out her papers and searching for specific ones. She would randomly run to the board and start to write and sentence, then run back to her desk and look through the papers again. I watched Justin pick up a clump of paper and throw it just in time for her heal to step on it. she slipped a littl and almost fell but her wolf instincts were still quick and she managed to catch herself. She looked up at the laughing Justin and glared.
“Justin Evans. Did you throw that paper?”
“No, miss.” He smiled to his friends. She looked around the room.
“Ahh, Kally, I hate to single you out but I trust that being new, you would rather not lie to me and make a bad impression. Did Justin throw the paper?”
“Yes.” I wasn’t afraid of Justin. I had Tyler by me all the time. Tyler would never let him hurt me. Plus, that kid Anthony happened to always be around when I was in trouble.
Justin turned around and glared at me.
“Thank you. Justin I will see you for detention after school. you do not show, I will have service guards bring you here. Got that?” she smiled to me.
“Yes, ma’am.” Justin spoke, still facing me.
“Alright class, I’m sorry for the wait, you guys all good today?”
“Yea,” could be hear from almost all the class.
“Good, today we are going over your reading you were assigned. Please take out your books for ‘The Canterury Tales. Let’s hear from…Jason…How does the knight relate to you. What do you think him?”
I had no idea what she was talking about. She was reading this story I’ve never even heard about. The kid Jason, the one she called on, seemed to have the same expression but he managed to stumble through his words, giving her crap about how he was really cool and guys should be more like him. That just made her go off and say how many guys should be like him. The knight was very chivalris and generous. He had a good reputation ‘unlike many of our current guys’.
Tyler couldn’t hold in his laughing for much longer. He was cracking up over everything she was saying. I had to say, it was pretty amusing to. She continued on saying how guys in her day were like that and she missed it. All the guys now were punk and all about ‘getting some’. She said it like it was a curse word.
Before she could say anything else, the bell sounded and everyone got up. Justins eyes followed Tyler’s movements before he walked out with his friends. Justin really is crazy. No wonder his parents sent him to this school. He would probably end up killing himself by pushing some other alpha. Ha, that would be a sight to see.
Tyler nudged me beofre yelling, “Helloooo, anyone in there?”
“Yea,” I groaned pushing his hand down.
“You coming?” he asked.
I slowly got up following him.
“History’s next. I’d be careful in Mr. Turish’s class. He can be a real…ass hole.” Julia stated. “Well, I gotta run, I have art104. I’ll see you guys later.”
She ran off, literally. Her speed was pretty damn fast, if I don’t say so myself. Though, I think she tried to keep her speed semi slow. After all, she couldn’t show all of her speed in front of the humans. Tyler smiled turning to me before pushing me the other way.
“What, what are you grinning about?” I demanded.
“Well, I kinda think your birthday might be a little more sooner than two weeks away because I just heard everything you were thinking.”
“Nu-uh. You’re lying!” I froze in my place.
“She is pretty fast.” He smiled.
My mouth dropped and I saw him laugh and continue walking. This is bull crap! I hate being a wolf! It sucks.
“C’mon, we have to go to the other side of the school. We only have 8 minutes left now.” He grabbed my wrist leading me down the hall. He didn’t let go until we reached the room, as if it would be dangerous and I would have some crazy random thing would happen to me. the history room was like the english room but the seats were flat and spread out.
“We have assigned seats.” Dylan said passing us and sitting down.
“Joy…” I whispered.
Tyler walked in the room and sat down next to Dylan, leaving me frozen at the door. I looked around for Mr. Turish but to my luck, didn’t find him. Someone pushed past me, shoving me against the open door. I wasn’t surprised to see Justin walking by grinning and laughing with his friends. Oh God, how I wanted so much to smack that smile off his face.
“Hey, you ok?” someone spoke up behind me. I turned around and saw Anthony. He stood a few foot away holding a book in one hand and his backpack strap on the other shoulder. His hair seemed to be combed a little better today but still messy. His mouth was actually in a smile.
I had a smile instantly on my face. I couldn’t help myself. He was just so darn cute, plus he was actually smiling.
“Y-Yea..” I whispered.
“So you have Mr. Turish for history. Good luck. He’s a good teacher but a harsh one at that. If you ever need help with the work, just ask me. I’m a class aid for him. I organize things for him and help him out and in return we talk about history the whole time.” He looked down at his book for a second. “But I’m sure you really don’t care or just think I’m a nerd or something—”
“No, no, I don’t. I think it’s really nice of you. I used to do that on my other school I was at during my study hall…” We both were quiet for a few seconds. We just stared at the ground or walls, waiting for the other to start talking with the next topic. I guess I was the one. “What book is that?” I suddenly asked.
“Umm, it’s called Hit List. I doubt you’ve heard of it. My dorm teacher told me to read the book and tell me what was real and false about it in reality.”
“Dorm teacher?” I asked.
“Yours is named Corey I believe.”
“Oh.” I said grinning. Man, I was really being stupid. I should have known that.
“Excuse me students.” A middle aged man said, squeezing between us with a box and briefcase.
“Well, we should sit. I’ll see you later.” He smiled.
I nodded and walked to Mr. Turish.
“You are Kallista?”
“Kally.” This was going to get old fast.
“Welcome. You may have a seat behind Anthony over there. Maybe he can get you caught up on where we are in the lesson.” He grunted out and didn’t even look at me. I guess he was not only a hard teacher but one who didn’t even care about his students.
He started the lesson right away as soon as bell rang. He didn’t pause for questions. He didn’t stop for bathroom or drink breaks. No one spoke a word and when they would, he would make them stand at the chalk board for the rest of class. It was either that or go to the deans. From what everyone made it sound like, it wasn’t a great thing to go there. So considering I didn’t want to go to the board and I didn’t want to go to the deans, especially not on the first day, I kept my mouth shut. I didn’t look out the window. I stared at the board behind him so he thought I was paying attention but wasn’t too creepy because I wasn’t staring at him in the first place. The only problem with that… when the bell rung, I didn’t even hear it until Tyler was shoving me and walking out the door. What was it with people and shoving me now! Is it like the new trend?
Math was a breeze and I was getting all of the problems done. They had juniors doing the things she was teaching, back at my old school. this was just like a warm up for me. Too easy. Not hard at all. I began to stare out of the window about 30 minutes in. The forest looked beautiful durring the day but evil at night. It was five minutes later that the teacher was asking me an answer to a problem on the board. It took me 30 seconds to realize she was talking to me. it took about 7 seconds to look at the problem and solve it without even writing anything down. She looked at me like I was crazy and continued on, leaving me to my day dreaming.
Lunch passed just as quick. Tyler and everyone else were so busy eating and stuffing their faces, we didn’t even talk much. He tried to bring up Anthony and asking whey I was actually hanging out with him and talking to him. I just shrugged it off doing my best not to think about him. I knew my thoughts weren’t a 100% safe. If he knew I was falling hard for Anthony than he would probably hurt the kid or get him sent back to his pack. Wasn’t worth it yet considering it was only a crush.
Tyler wasn’t in Science. He only brought me to the door and looked in. I watched his face get angry before turning to me.
“Kally, I need you to promise me something.”
“What?” I asked looking up to him from my schedual.
“Do not make friend’s with Anthony. Don’t even talk to him. He’s bad news ok.” He said.
I took a step back. no way. Anthony was the one friend I made outside of dorm friends. He was one of the guys I was beginning to like more and more. Now he was trying to take him away from me. How the hell could he think Anthony was bad news. The kid helpped teachers with stuff. No bad kid I know purposely tries to help teachers.
“No.”
“What?” he was taken back now.
“No, I’m not promising. Tyler, I like him. Just because you think he’s ‘bad news’ does not mean you can just tell me not hang with him. You better not use your stupid Alpha power on me and tell me not to see him either. I’ll never talk to you again and I’ll call your father and tell him to bring me back.”
“He won’t bring you back and that’s a lie. You will talk. You’ll last a week, maybe.” He smiled. He actually smiled! What the hell! How could he smile at this.
“I’m not going to fight with you over this. He’s my friend and it’s staying that way!” I began to walk away from him into the classroom before he grabbed my wrist and yanked me back. He threw me against the lockers and pushed himself close. Our body’s were almost touching now.
“You do not turn away from me. I will say when the argue is over. Yes, I said argue. That’s what it fucking is.”
“Tyler, back off. You’re not cool trying to use your powers. Big deal, you have special powers that allow you to control people. Where’s that going to get you? Think about it. You control people. When you do that, it causes everyone to hate you because you are not allowing them to do what they really want. You are trying to do it to me. Don’t make me hate you. I will win this fight and if it comes down to it, I will NOT talk to you for the rest of yours and my life.” I said all while staring him derectly in the eyes. Some thought it was disrespectful to stare Alpha’s in the eyes. I thought so to which is why I did it. I needed to make my point and I think I did.
“You need to control your thoughts. You forget your becoming a wolf. Your thoughts are starting to be heard. I’m an alpha so I will hear first. You keep staring me in the eyes, you’ll regret it. I’ll make you hurt so bad that you wish those wolves in the forest had killed you. You need to get your attitude checked out. If you continue to act out like this I will let my father know. He will handle your punishments. And for your information, I do not care if they hate me. At least they won’t get hurt or die in the end.” He spoke so venomously that I had to look down. Great he won. I broke the eye contest and he won! “Do you understand…beta.” He said the word beta like it was nothing. It was trash to him at that point. He didn’t care what I was as long as he made his point and won.
“Yes, Alpha.” I whispered, looking down.
“Do you wish for me to tell my father of your actions or would you like to behave now?”
“I do not wish you to tell Alpha, sir. Though I will not act according to your wishes on the Anthony subject.”
He growled out and punched the wall before stalking off. I took a deep breath and headed into the room. Anthony smiled seeing me. We talked the whole period. It wasn’t awkward. One thing led to the next and the teacher didn’t even mind. She seemed nice for a sience teacher. I would deffinetly be liking her as well. I learned Anthony has been here for a few years. He has an older brother that protects people and he wishes to become as great as his brother is. His parents got divorced a year back and he’s just recently gotten through it. Because of it, he’s gotten angrier with everyone though. He told me he was surprised that i even talked to him because he was so intimidating. The others know his angry past and how he almost hurt someone because they said something about his parents. No one has messed with him since. I felt bad for him but that only made me want to comfort him and get closer to him. I was one of his only friends. No wonder he became friends with the teachers.
The bell rang and I found my way to the fighting gym. Anthony had told me that in the envolope there was a combo to a locker and a number to it. it was for my Fighting locker. He said I’d probably have to dress today. Once I found the locker room. I dug out my locker number and managed to find it through the mass amount of girls slowly changing. I found the locker and tried to open it. After around 10 attempts to get it open, I finally got it. Inside the locker, I found a green shirt and a black shirt. There were black shoes along with mid thigh length shorts. Which shirt do I wear? What the hell…
I picked up the shirts, looking at them.
“You wear the black one today.” A girl said. She had already been dressed and had been filing her nails and sitting on a bench leaning against the wall.
“Thanks.” I whispered. She was beautiful… I mean I don’t mean to sound weird but she was. It seemed like one of those fairytales where they say the supernatural people are always amazingly good looking. Her face was flawless and so was her body. She had to be like a 2 or 3 in size.
“Anna. Anna Wilson.” She stood up and held her hand out to me.
“Kally Santers.” I shook her hand back. Though everything else was still flawless at this point of view, she stood a little short, only about 5’3 or 5’4. Eh, whatever. Short people tend to rule.
“You’re new here right?” She asked.
“Yeah.”
“I can’t believe you’re the girl who gave Britney a beating.” She said sitting down as I began to change clothes.
“Huh?” I immediately asked as soon as I had my shorts on.
“She’s my sister. She came to my dorm freaking out. Apparently you broke one of her nails.” She laughed. I smiled. Little princess aint so perfect now that her nails broken. “Don’t worry, I hate her. I won’t be coming after you for revenge or anything.” She smiled.
“Sweet. SO, what is this class? Like, I never had fighting at my old school.”
“Well, it’s only for wolves or to-be wolves. It teaches us a basic self defense and a way of protecting ourselfs. The teacher is pretty tough because he used to be attacked every day. He says its our number one goal to be able to defend ourself as a wolf. Though most of the time we don’t use our wolf form since many haven’t turned yet, he still does every once and a while. The others just watch.”
“Wait, you turned already? Not to be mean but you look younger than me!”
“Yeah, I know. I changed last month. I love my wolf. She’s amazing and because I changed, I am an amazing fighter. I’ll have to teach you some moves!”
“Sure.”
“Alright, Ladies! Let’s go! MOVE, MOVE, MOVE!” A man yelled at the door. I finished changing and shoved on my shoes and ran with her out to the gym. This place was gigantic but had about 70 or 80 students in here. Most of them were guys and I didn’t know any of them. Not even Tyler was in this class, but hey, some time away from that ass hole would do me some good.
‘Heard that.,’ a voice in my head said.
What the hell was that!
‘It’s me you idiot. Tyler. Stop thinking about me and go fight your fucking battles now.’ He yelled in my head, I flinched.
“Alright, groups of six. I want two girls and four boys on a matt at a time. I see anything different, you’re fighting me and I won’t hesitate. You have two minutes to find your groups. GO!” this fighting teacher was going to kill us all. Anna grabbed my hand and started to run. She found a group of boys and told me we were in the group. I could only see one from head on but he wasn’t bad looking. Taller and more built…Most have changed wolf already.
“Alright, start fighting. You may only injure your oponent till they tap out of can’t get up anymore. Anything beyond that, well…we’ll just see how this goes and find out later. Begin.” A loud whistle sounded and Anna looked at me.
“Kally, this is Ricky, Frank, Whesly, and Justin.” My mouth dropped open as soon as Justin Evans turned around and smiled to me.
“I got mat first with Kally.” He spoke to everyone while staring at me. Anna pushed me in the circle and told me to do my best. I couldn’t feel any of my muscles though. Everything was frozen. I felt my heart beat rise as I watched him jump up and down a few times before settling in on a position. Good bye life. Hello Heaven.
He ran at me and I didn’t know what he was doing first. He moved so fast I couldn’t understand it. His hand’s came up, ready to punch me and I threw my hands up, ready to block. Soon, I realised it was only a distraction. His foot was too fast for me to notice before it came behind me and pulled forward while his hand punched me backwards. I fell flat onto my back and I felt something crack. I scruntched my eyes in pain and Justin waited for me to stand. I made no effort in moving. Screw that. No pain, no gain. Yeah that just meant no gain of more pain from Justin.
“Get up!” he yelled in his alpha tone. SCREW YOU ALPHAS! YOU ALL SUCK! I yelled in my head. my body slowly rose from the ground and I held in my groans of pain. It wasn’t long before Justin was shoving me against the wall. I felt a fist hit my stomach as he pushed me against it. My head slammed right above where the mats were and I felt dizzyness come over me.
“You…Suck…as an…Alpha.” I gasped out. I could tell this got to him the same way it did to Tyler. His breathing got heavier and he got meaner. His fist came raining down on my waist where I was previously bit. I screamed out in pain and I could feel the whole class slowly stopping to watch as my life was taken away from me.
“You are a bitch! A worthless piece of shit!” with every word, he punched harder and harder into my side. I could feel my bite opening back up and blood escaping from me and running to my shirt. The pain sure felt like that was what was happening.
He backed up for a second taking a breath and letting go of me. I collapsed to the ground. I didn’t want my last words to be that he sucked. That would be just lame. I had to go out with a bang at least.
“I hope you die.” I whispered. My vision split and I started to see two of him. My breathing was shallow. Pain was everywhere. He was everywhere. This death sucked. I couldn’t just go out of this world in a quick painless death? No I had to go out in a long painful death. It felt like no more pain could be added to make it hurt anymore than I already did.
His breathing staggered hearing this before picking up speed. His muscles started to shake before I watched him shift into his wolf. He growled at me holding up his lips, showing his canine teeth. Sharp pointy Mother Freakers. Bet those things feel like pillows with every bite! I briefly laughed at my own joke, making him more mad. He must have thought I was laughing at him. I’m not surprised.
He finally lundged for me. I kept my eyes open decideing to watch how he would finally kill me. Though I didn’t want to see myself die in a school gym, I was perfectly content with letting a wolf kill me. More honor there saying I had no way of really protectign myself.
