Perfect vs screwed up

'Dude, you are way too nervous. Just relax, it's only girl,' Sirius yawned and threw a towel to my head, as I turned around with sweat drops dripping past my neck. 'Only a girl? Only a girl?! Lily Evans is everything but only a girl,' I snapped to Sirius, who rolled his eyes and tried to get in a better position at the bed in our Gryffindor dorm. 'Oh, come on. You're always like "I'm James Potter. I can get any girl I want, I'm so popular, look at me and my handsome friend Sirius Black!"' He jumped up and bowed, pretending to be in front of thousands of people.

I sighed and looked in the mirror again, thinking about how much I could possibly screw up my first date. Not just any date, but a date with the girl of my dreams. Lily Evans.

While Sirius kept thanking his fantasized admirers, I headed downstairs with the hope she wouldn't be there. And luckily, she wasn't. Instead of her company, it was Remus, who stared into the fire at the other side of the dorm, probably thinking about the full moon of tonight. I hesitated a bit, before walking over to my other best friend.

'It's going to be fine,' I mumbled, which didn't make Remus look up like usual. 'Sirius and Peter will get you inside, and Sniverus will stay out of the way. He doesn't even dare to get anywhere near to that tree anymore.' I chuckled at my own joke, but Remus just looked down to his knees, or the hands on them. 'I know,' was the only whisper coming from his mouth, though I knew he really meant it. 'Just like with you and Lily.' Now he looked up, his brown eyes glowing in the light of the fire in front of us. 'James, you shouldn't be this nervous. You've got to relax.'

'Just as Sirius said, only his way was more... arrogant,' I smiled. 'Are you comparing me with that pureblood Malfoy?' Sirius screamed from upstairs and jumped down in just three steps. 'I'm nothing like him. Come on, he's in Slytherin for a reason!' 'Not everyone in Slytherin is bad,' Remus pointed out, but Sirius shook his head and let himself fall down in a chair. 'His name must be enough. Who calls his kid "Lucious" anyway? And believe me, if that prick ever gets a wife – which I doubt – his kids will be just as cocky as he is.' 'Whatever...' I chuckled, finally getting more comfortable with the situation.

But the zone of pressure I'd just broken, immediately appeared again when she stepped into the dorm. My heart froze, my face lost blood and I couldn't think anything else then "God, she's so pretty...' Her slightly ginger hair swept happily up and down as Lily walked up to me and smiled, a smile that made my head turn for another night.

'Ready to go?' her voice sang, and all I could do was nod, not yet making a total fool of myself. 'Go get some, Prongs!' Sirius yelled just before the door closed, and the last thing I could see was Sirius bending over from laughing and Remus staring almost obsessed to the clouded, getting-darker sky.

'It's beautiful out here,' Lily whispered, squeezing my hand lightly which caused me to blush – again. We were out in the woods, walking under a bunch of fluffy grey clouds as shining stars began to fill the sky. 'How do you know where we're going?' she asked softly, looking around the trees in the dark wood. 'Been here a lot,' I answered, and indeed, I had been here quite often, if it was for laughing at Sniverus or just chasing Sirius for fun. I smiled when my favorite spot occurred; a rock, showing a beautiful view over the black lake... I sat down with her next to me.

'It's lovely, James...' she mumbled, laying her head against my shoulder. 'I know...' I returned, but just as I said those words, I remembered something. Something important. Something I had to say to Sirius.

Just at that moment, the full moon appeared in the sky and at the same time, a howling of a wolf was being heard somewhere far away, yet close to us. Oh no. That meant Sirius hadn't been able to keep Remus inside...

I quickly jumped up, not really scared, but at the beginning of startled, and pulled Lily with me as I started running the way back to the castle. 'J-James! What's wrong?' she yelled, but all I could shout back was a faint 'Remus!' before getting back to the castle, cursing Sirius in my mind for ruining the one good day in my life.
