Chapter Twenty-One

We return to the living room to summon that demon once more with the board. The portal forms and a beaten, bloodied and terrified Fabien is shoved out. He hits the ground with a sickening crunching noise. But he is alive.

Tyler rushes to him and drops down at once to check on him.

Fabien freaks out and spins around, whacking Tyler in the face and sending him spralling to one side.

"Whoa! Fabs, whoa!" Spencer shouts out.

Fabien lunges and grabs onto Tyler, who is holding his nose, where the young man had surprise-popped him. "Oh...thank..." he manages to croak out, grasping tightly to Tyler's arm. "Tyler."

"Fabs, you okay bro?" Jonni asks, coming forward toward him. "I'm so sorry..."

Fabien begins to sob into Tyler's shoulder now.

Spencer looks around the room and then throws his head back and howls out, "HANNIBAL, PLEASE, STOP THIS MADNESS! Let's just take a break...okay?" He keeps spinning around, looking around. Thinking that the killer is somehow still watching them or within earshot.

There is no response to him.

There is just silence. And Fabien's sobs.

Tyler reaches over and hugs Fabien close to him. "It's okay. It's okay. I got you."

The next day, it's a cloudy one. The boys had spent the night in the living room: Tyler hugging the crying Fabien close to him, Spencer, sitting, staring at the ground, in a chair to the side of the couch where Jonni and I sit.

Somehow, Jonni and I ended up leaning against one another and fell asleep. Four hours. But still...it was something. I am awake before Jonni and I look over to see his head resting limply against my chest.

Oh...my...God...Jonni... I think to myself.

Fabien slowly calms down, though he is mute, still speechless and traumatized from the abduction. He doesn't speak anymore and he keeps close to Tyler.

Tyler doesn't mind, comforting him. It's the least he can do, since Fabien did sort of protect him and sacrifice himself to get abducted and then tortured.

Jonni jerks awake finally, finding his head resting on my shoulder.

"Well, good morning, my Finnish lover," I joke, petting Jonni's head.

"Good morning, Radimiekins. I always knew I loved you," Jonni plays along and rolls his head over to kiss me on the lips.

I jerk back and his eyes shoot wide as he launches backward in a fit of laughter.

"You're the worst..." I mutter, swiping my hand at him and then connecting with a hard slap on his arm.

"Okay," Spencer croaks out. "Since Fabs is the only one who's had any kind of meeting with our hacker guy and he probably won't talk about it for a while, we have to begin our own investigation. He might be listening, I don't really care anymore. We're going to figure out who this madman is and stop him."

"I agree," I chime out, nodding my head. "So where do we start...?"

Spencer cracks his neck and then responds with, "Well let's start with maybe people we know who could be out to harm us? On the ice, off the ice, family members, people we've pissed off in the past...anyone who comes to mind."

"The only person I can think of is Benjamin Leroy, the forward for the Utica Backstabbers who speared Jonni illegally in the comeback game win for us from November. But I don't see him doing something like THIS," I growl out.

"It wasn't him," Fabien finally squeaks out. "I don't know who it was exactly, but I just know it wasn't him. It wasn't anyone I recognized...but...there WERE two of them. Someone was relaying commands to..." He shivers and throws his head back into Tyler's chest for protection.

Tyler pets him, comfortingly and mutters, "Shhh, shhh, it's okay. You're okay."

"How about any of those jerks from the Hitmen?!" Jonni suggests.

"I HIGHLY doubt that. Jonathan Kitness was attacked, remember? I don't think one of his teammates would ever hurt him like that. In fact, I don't even think our hacker guy is from hockey. I would like to know more about this partnership from Fabs though," Spencer says, stroking his chin where beard stubble is.

"Is there anyone outside of hockey? Think classmates or strangers."

Jonni and I share a look.

Spencer then says something that ignites my mind with thoughts, "Anyone who you maybe dated and broke up with."

A name comes to my mind: Lynette Spiegel.

But I dismiss it at once. I don't think it's her. Besides, it can't be a woman. The voice we all heard was definitely male. And we saw a male in the video. It has to be a male-male partnership attacking us.

There's just no way it can be her.

And so, I immediately shove her name to the side.
