✷ 035: The First Date.
HIT ON ME ! by KissLeclerc
January 9, 2024 # "Token Of Appreciation."
SLOWLY OPENING her eyes, the soft afternoon light filtered through the curtains, casting a gentle glow over the bedroom where Thalia slept. Blinking away the remnants of sleep, she glanced around, noticing the empty space beside her on the bed, slightly taking a breath in relief, and deciding to investigate where he went later.
Reaching over to the nightstand beside her, Thalia grabbed her phone to see that it was already mid day, realizing she'd been asleep for nearly 12 hours.
She sat up, stretching out her arms and letting out a yawn when a note caught her attention, lying neatly folded on the pillow where Lando had slept.
With a mix of anticipation and curiosity, she reached for the paper, her fingers brushing against the smooth sheet. As she read his words, she soon made a connection about his whereabouts.
"Good morning Tanya!" She read the note, quirking a brow to herself as the time was literally 4:00PM.
"I thought you would have wanted to wake up on your own terms so I left you as you were. If you've found this note, it probably means I'm out, but don't you worry, I am just gathering some final things before our date tonight." His words written neatly as she mindlessly read, a smile tugging at her lips.
"If you're hungry, I've ordered you room service. So relax, enjoy yourself, and prepare to have the best date of your life." Thalia was reaching the end of the note.
"Be ready by 6:00. I will be picking you up by then! See you later chihuahua!" He signed the note with his name, a smiley face, and a sloppily drawn heart.
Rolling her eyes at how corny he was, she set the note down and smiled to herself, her heart warming with the thoughtfulness of his gestures. With one more stretch for comfort, she rose from the bed, feeling renewed and refreshed from her uninterrupted slumber.
Standing up, Thalia went ahead and checked herself in the mirror, taking her hair out of the braids she left it in last night, before smoothing out the wrinkles in her pajamas. With a satisfied nod at her appearance, she made her way out to the living room of the suite, noticing a cart of food practically waiting for her.
Along with the assortment of sweets and fruit baskets, Thalia noticed a small wrapped gift on the counter where the kitchen sat, curiously walking up to it with another note with Lando's now familiar hand writing.
"A little gift that Calvin left me with for you. Not too sure what it is exactly, but enjoy!" She read before glancing at the gift, picking up the tag to see Calvin's familiar handwriting.
Fearful as to what it could've been, Thalia looked around the suite as if she was being watched before unveiling the ribbon and lifting the lid with curiosity.
With an immediate scoff escaping her lips, she rolled her eyes and closed the gift shut in embarrassment before running back to the bedroom, laughing to herself as she grabbed her phone. Unlocking the device, she mumbled curses to herself as she went straight for her pinned messages and immediately FaceTimed Calvin, awaiting his answer.
After not picking up, she was quick to dial him again, sitting patiently on the bed when he finally answered, his eyes closed shut with a dark ambiance surrounding him, when Thalia suddenly remembered that time zones exist.
"What do you want." He mumbled through annoyance as she did the math and realized it was 3:00AM in New York where he was.
"I just want to say you're fucking insane." She was quick to scold, laughing in reaction to him opening his eyes in confusion and attempting to adjust to the bright screen of his phone as his eyebrows furrowed.
"Girl, the hell did I do? I'm across the globe from your stupid ass."
"Orange lingerie?" Thalia brought up his gift.
"Are you out of your fucking mind?!" She held in a cringed giggle, Calvin immediately bursting into laughter as he remembered his gesture.
"ARE YOU GONNA WEAR IT?" He asked, smiling wide as he now seemed fully awake for this conversation.
"I am not wearing it." Thalia declined. "Wearing that for nobody to see, you sick fuck." She groaned into the palm of her hands.
"Uhh! No! Lando will have to see you-"
"DONT EVEN-" She cut him off before realizing her volume. "Don't even go there." Her voice came to a mere whisper. "I'm returning that shit, I don't need it."
"So you hate me?" Calvin deadpanned.
"Yes." Thalia nodded. "Now have a good rest of your night, you're actually sick."
"GET THAT MCLAREN DI-"
Thalia quickly hung up before Calvin could even finish his statement. Cringing to herself, she ran a hand through her waved hair and let out a breath before walking back down the hallway.
Picking up a strawberry from the room service cart in the living room, Thalia glanced back at the gifted box that Calvin left her before picking it up and taking it back to her suitcase in the room.
"Idiot." She mumbled to herself as she stored it away.
Proceeding with the hour, Thalia took advantage of her time and snacked on a couple more strawberries before getting ready for the night.
Informing her before the trip approached, Lando had let Thalia know prior that their date would be at a fancy dinner reservation with a cocktail type of attire. With the input of Solana and Lily, they decided that she should wear an ensemble she modeled for Versace last year.
Freshening up in the bathroom, Thalia did her hair. Her signature bouncy waves cascaded effortlessly around her shoulders, framing her face with a touch of allure.
As she did her makeup, she bumped up the volume on her phone as she listened to her dear friend Sabrina's music, jamming out on her own before she finalized the touches of a false lash that sat on her eye.
Her outfit exuded sophistication and style, as she gracefully slipped into a short black satin dress that sat near her mid thigh, adorned with delicate white details and a tiny bow delicately placed at the center of her bust. It hugged her curves in all the right places, accentuating her silhouette with elegance.
Paired with sheer black fleece lined tights, the ensemble added a hint of charm, while her Chanel heels gave her some height, but not too much, completing the look with an undeniable sense of glamour.
Clasping the final touches of jewelry around herself, Thalia adjusted the Chanel necklace that sat around her collarbones, glancing in the mirror as she finished getting ready. Admiring herself, she smiled as if the color black was made for her, feeling as if she was about to walk a runway, but it was just a dinner date.
Continuing to check her phone, Thalia saw that the time was nearing a quarter past 6:00PM, and as if the timing was right, she heard the elevator from the living room ding.
Barely even realizing that their date was finally approaching, she felt a swarm of nerves overtake her body as she tried to force herself out of the room, where Lando must have been waiting.
Calming her nerves, Thalia picked up the coat she packed before opening the bedroom door and strutted down the hallway with the garment of clothing rested on her forearm, nothing but elegance and beauty exuding from her figure as she was met with Lando awaiting her presence.
It seemed almost as if the two planned to match but that wasn't the case. He stood there in all his glory, a tailored black suit hugging him right. Thalia caught herself gawking and soon brushed it off by looking away to avoid his stare.
"Woah." She was able to hear him mumble under his breath, as he gazed at her with awe while she took a step down to join him near the elevator.
"You look..." Lando was left speechless. "Goodness gracious." He was flustered, continuing to hide his blush by covering his face as she laughed.
"Why, thank you." Thalia smiled, placing a hand on his arm as she already figured what he was going to say. "You clean up well." She grinned.
"Well, these are for you." He handed the bouquet in his hands to her. "Had it specially put together for you." He explained, a stutter still forming with his words.
"Are these dahlias?" Her eyes softened, glancing at the flowers as he smiled proudly. "Yeah!" He replied.
"How'd you know these were my favorite?" She bit down a smile as he smirked knowingly. "I've got my ways." He shrugged as a tug at her lips formed once again.
"Thank you." She laughed, glancing back at the bouquet before inhaling the scent, happily smiling at the comforting smell. "These are beautiful." Her heart was warm.
"Beautiful flowers for the most beautiful girl." Lando said with a corny tone, Thalia rolling her eyes as she grinned, lightly smacking the bouquet at his chest. "Cornball." She insulted as he laughed.
"Well, shall we?" He held his arm out for her to hold as she nodded. "We shall." She nodded before setting the flowers down, deciding to leave them in the suite while they left for the night.
Walking into the elevator, Thalia's hand held onto Lando's arm, and to her surprise, it didn't want to make her explode. She actually liked it. His warmth complimented her naturally cold demeanor, a smile painted on her face as she glanced at him already looking at her.
As they arrived to the lobby, Lando guided her through the luxurious space as her heels clicked on the marbled floors. Walking through the grand exit of spinning doors, he stopped in his tracks as the two began waiting.
"How are we getting there?" She questioned as she let go of his arm to drape her coat around her shoulders, the cold Tokyo air hitting her skin.
"I've got that covered." He smirked as a sleek McLaren 765LT pulled in, Thalia's tongue poking at the inside of her mouth as she thought she should've saw that coming.
"Why am I not surprised." She laughed, glancing at him as the engine revved. The valet getting out of the car to give Lando a quick dap up, along with the keys.
"It's very on brand for me." He smiled happily, opening the door for her as she got in.
Getting into the drivers side, the engine's purr was quick to fill the air, drowning out the city sounds as Lando cockily revved the engine. Embarking on their journey to the restaurant, he expertly navigated through Tokyo's bustling streets, the neon lights blurring past the windows as they made their way to their destination.
Thalia couldn't help but admire the thought and effort he had put in. The fact she was even in Tokyo to share her favorite meal with him was a good feeling, she felt noticed and admired. A rush of butterflies coursed through not just her stomach, but her entire body.
Upon reaching the restaurant after a short bit of driving, it was characterized by refined luxury, Lando smoothly drove up to the valet stand before exiting the vehicle. He handed his keys to the attendant before turning his attention to assist Thalia out of the car, a smile not leaving his face once again.
"Always a gentleman." She placed briefly placed her hand in his, stepping out of the McLaren. "Well, duh."
Stepping into the restaurant, she noticed the lack of other guests dining in, when Lando was quick to let her know he had it rented out for two of them that evening.
"You are amazing and everything more." Thalia said with a heartfelt frown. "This is so..." She looked around the restaurant lit with ambiance and a personal chef awaiting their arrival. "I'm overwhelmed." She paused. "But in a good way."
"I was hoping for that." He grinned, before subtly asking permission to take her hand in his, and to his surprise, she allowed him.
Guiding her towards their candle lit table, he pulled her seat out for her before finding his chair, sitting across from her happily.
"I told them to serve us their best." Lando pushed the menu aside. "So, we can skip the ordering." He smiled, placing his elbows on the table as he fidgeted with the watch sat on his wrists.
"I am speechless." Were the only words Thalia was able to form. "Like I don't even know what to say. I'm blown away." She said with a smile.
"Am I doing good?" He asked for her approval, as it was something kept asking her throughout their trip.
"Beyond amazing." She said softly as he took a breath. "But now you have to try sushi, and there's no turning back."
"I'm nervous for that actually." He said with a shaky tone as she rolled her eyes playfully. "You'll be okay, I got you, I'll hold your hair back if you throw up." She teased with a wink.
"Oh, yeah?" He tilted his head, smiling at her remark. "Most definitely." She crossed her arms in front of her, comfortably leaning onto the table as she gazed at him in front of her.
As the two delved into a mindless conversation, a waiter came by and served them an elegant bottle of sake, which was a rice wine that Lando ordered prior.
Sipping and mingling throughout the early evening, a chef soon came by with a cart and served them their first round of sushi rolls and food, Thalia smiling wide on excitement as Lando tried to compose himself.
Noticing the disgusted look on his face, she glanced at him as he immediately went for an egg roll, eating it happily.
"I love egg rolls." He said, swallowing down his food as she admired how full his cheeks got when he was eating. "I make really good egg rolls at home actually." She quirked a brow.
"Do you?" He raised his brows as she picked up her chopsticks and assisted herself to some sushi. "Yeah!" She nodded.
"I'll have to try it some day." He shrugged. "Maybe." She smirked before she picked up a roll of sushi, her cheeks filing as she chewed. With the mesmerizing burst of flavors, she closed her eyes to admire the taste, before swallowing.
"Oh, wow." She covered her mouth in awe, grabbing a napkin to pat down her lips.
"Good?" He said nervously. "The best I've ever had." She replied with a grin, sipping her drink. "Come on, your turn, it's time to try."
"Uh.." He looked down at the table as he's been trying to fight the urge to gag at the scent ever since the food was served. "I'll let you have some first." He said nervously before eating another egg roll.
"No way you're actually scared of some fish." Thalia teased him, his eyebrows furrowing at the sight of the food in front of him. "It won't hurt until you try it..."
"I..." He looked down at the table. "I can't." He tapped out as her jaw fell open. "I'm sorry." He laughed into the palms of his hands with embarrassment as she picked up another roll of sushi.
"Okay fine, just say you hate me."
"WHAT!?" He gasped as she dipped the contents in soy sauce. "You won't even try my favorite food! Just say you hate me-" Thalia tried to go in for a bite but before she could even get it in her mouth, Lando grabbed the piece of food out of the grip of her chopsticks, shoving it in his own mouth.
"LANDO." She gasped as he kept the food rested in his mouth.
"I don't hate you! I actually-" He said with a full mouth before he began to chew it down. "Wait... It's not.." He continued to taste it before gagging a slight bit and swallowing it down. "Wait it's not that bad." He finished with tears in his eyes, quickly going in for another egg roll as Thalia looked at him as if he was insane.
"You just ate my sushi." Was all she focused on.
"It was good." He covered his mouth as he chewed his egg roll.
"Are you saying that truthfully or just to make me feel better." Thalia asked as she quickly went in and ate a roll herself.
"Uhh.." His lips formed a thin line. "Both...?"
"Here, try this one, maybe you'll like it better." She picked up a different roll with her chopsticks, dipping it in soy sauce before holding a hand under it for loose drips, and placing it in front of him for him to eat.
"What's in it?" He asked, looking at her offering of food.
"Don't think about it, just eat." She insisted, bringing it closer to his face as he opened his mouth for her to feed him.
Setting her chopsticks down, she watched as Lando hesitantly began to chew, soon raising his eyebrows in surprise as he swallowed it down with no problem.
"Oh?" He tilted his head in shock. "That was banging." He pointed at the platter of the food she just gave him.
"Don't say that." Her expression fell to cringe at his vocabulary before going back to a sweet smile. "But I knew you'd like it." She slid the plate over to him so he could eat more.
"So what's in it?" He asked.
"That doesn't matter. You like it, so eat it." She laughed as his face dropped in a childish way.
"Why do you hate me?"
"Lots of reasons." Thalia was quick to answer, going in for another roll and happily eating it with a smile.
As the two continued to dine and talk through the rest of the evening, they were served a couple more platters of sushi that Thalia graciously enjoyed, while trying to get Lando to try everything.
Giving in and letting her feed him the assortment of seafood, Lando found himself liking some of the options, but hating some others. Thalia was just happy he was willing to try his least favorite food for the sake of her.
"Are you ready?" Lando asked as the two wrapped up their dinner, a wide and appreciative smile on Thalia's face. "Very ready." She let out a breath as her stomach was full.
Grabbing a mint from the center of the table where the waiters left a bill for Lando that he happily paid for already, she popped in her mouth as he did the same before he helped her up and lead the way out of the restaurant, graciously thanking the chefs and servers.
Placing her hand around his forearm once again, Thalia stood next to Lando waiting at the valet for an attendant to bring around the car.
Laying her head on his shoulder, he looked down at her in surprise when she smiled wide, making him do the same.
"Thank you." She laughed, lifting her head to look at him with soft eyes.
"It really was the best date I've ever been on."
"Well, yeah." Lando shrugged, biting down a smile, hesitant on what he was about to say next.
"It was the first date you've ever been on anyways." He laughed to himself as her eyes bulged out in shock. "Calvin told me..." He hid his smirk as Thalia playfully shoved him.
"You're so annoying!" She tried fighting a laugh but just couldn't help herself. "You weren't supposed to know that." She felt embarrassed. "God damnit Calvin." She grumbled to herself.
"Best date ever still?" He tilted his head playfully, awaiting her response that he obviously knew the answer to anyways.
"Unfortunately." She huffed a breath, crossing her arms and looking away.
"I did good then?" He brought himself closer as she scoffed at his answer, shaking her head. "Yes. You goof, you did amazing." She couldn't stay mad at him as she was just playing around anyways.
"YES!" He celebrated himself as she laughed, turning to face him.
Noticing her gaze, he turned to Thalia with a smile on his face, standing in a comfortable silence before she quickly got on her tip toes, and placed a soft kiss on his cheek.
Once again shocked at her gesture, Lando couldn't help but grin happily, placing a hand behind her lower back and swooping her in closer.
"What was that?" He asked knowingly as she rolled her eyes back and covered her mouth as she laughed nervously.
"A token of my appreciation." She replied as he nodded.
"Well, can I give you my token of appreciation then?" He subtly asked as she already knew what he was aiming for.
"I don't know." She shrugged. "Maybe..." She bit down a wide smile, wanting nothing more than for him to just do it.
"I need a yes or no..." He quirked a brow as she huffed a breath.
"Yes, Lando. You can." Thalia placed her hands on his chest before he happily swooped down and kissed her.
Leaning into his hold, she smiled as he held her with care, softly letting their lips meet in a tender embrace. It conveyed a gentle affection that seemed to linger in the air around them.
It was a kiss filled with warmth and admiration, each brush of their lips expressing a depth of emotion that words could not capture. Time seemed to stand still as they melted into each other's arms, savoring the sweetness of the moment amidst the bustling cityscape of Tokyo.
Letting go for air, Thalia couldn't help but hide her face in his chest, his arms soon holding her as he laughed into their embrace.
"Does this mean you like me?" He broke their brief silence, asking childishly and being able to feel the vibrations of her laugh as she was still snuggled into his body.
"Not at all." She pulled away, fighting every urge within her to not smile.
"I can't help but think you're lying to me, Thalia Tran."
"Calling me a liar?" She raised a brow, a cocky grin on his face as they still waited for their valet, but they didn't even care about how long they've been waiting at this point.
He was glad they've been kept waiting.
"I am calling you a liar." He nodded.
"And why is that?" She let go of him to cross her arms.
"Because." Lando paused. "You actually do have feelings for me, you're just afraid to admit it." He continued to banter as her smile grew once again.
"And you're right." She sighed, playing with the buttons on his suit jacket before he placed a soft kiss on her head.
"Well, at least the feeling is very mutual."
