✷ 030: The Gala.

HIT ON ME ! by KissLeclerc
December 22, 2023 # "What Do You Say?"

JUST AS ANTICIPATED, the venue was decorated with elegance and poise. It perfectly embodied the essence of the brand, practically screaming Chanel.

Glancing around, Thalia was quick to notice other A-list celebrities along with familiar faces, whether it be co-workers or companions. Soon after, her attention was drawn to her good friends, accompanied by Alex who followed them closely like a lost pet, the trio already approaching her with radiant smiles.

"Way to make an entrance?!" Sol greeted, bringing her into a brief hug and quick kisses on the cheek. "You look amazing." The Monegasque girl complimented.

"Look at you!" Lily was next to say hello. "You look like a bride." She laughed, bringing her best friend into a small hug.

"You both look incredible." Thalia's two hands held onto one of Lily's and one of Sol's, smiling happily. "I see my assumptions were correct, the jewelry looks amazing on you both." She laughed.

"Impeccable taste." Sol winked before Thalia's eyes landed on Alex. "Good to see you!" She gave him a quick pat on the shoulder. "Good to see you as well." The Williams driver grinned in response.

"Fashionably late to practically your own gala is on brand for you." Lily said as she sipped on what seemed to be champagne. "Looking this good takes time." She shrugged with a small chuckle.

"Hate to interrupt your chat, but Thalia needs to mingle with some of the guests." Calvin chimed into the conversation.

"Do I have to..." The model grumbled, laughs escaping Lily and Sol as he nodded. "Just for a bit."

"Okay, I'll be right back." She squeezed their hands before bidding them and Alex a goodbye.

Escorting her past guests, Calvin advised Thalia who she should speak with and who was anticipating to speak with her, whether it be influential figures, other celebrities, or those highly ranked within the fashion industry.

Dreading this part of the evening, Thalia reluctantly embraced the European tradition of exchanging cheek kisses and lingering hugs as greetings, a gesture that stirred a sense of discomfort within her.

While these actions felt natural among close friends as she has been working on her affection, it just felt unsettling when shared with unfamiliar faces, leaving her feeling uneasy and out of place.

Mindlessly speaking with more and more people as the hour past by, a fresh glass of champagne sat in her grasp as Calvin finally came to her aide after another conversation between Thalia and a guest concluded, letting the model know she can finally take a break.

"Thank god." She grumbled. "I didn't know how much longer I could talk to people." She said through a laugh, strutting along the venue beside Calvin.

"Well, too bad I lied." He laughed, earning a confused glance from Thalia. "What?"

"There's someone else that's eagerly waiting to speak with you." He explained, her heartbeat gradually slowing down in fear. "Don't look behind you..." Calvin got closer to mumble in her ear. "But Lando has been watching you all evening."

"Shut the fuck up." She said through a hushed whisper and gritted teeth. "You're joking. Please don't make me talk to him."

"You're gonna talk to him." Calvin said sternly as Thalia quickly spotted a familiar face, thanking the stars for this moment. "Too bad." She said mockingly.

"OSCAR!" She immediately called out in a whisper, catching the lone Aussie's attention.

Giving Calvin a petty smirk, she handed him her glass of champagne before excusing herself to mingle with the boy that awaited her.

"Thals!" He greeted, giving her a polite hug, letting go to compliment her. "Looking amazing as always."

"Thank you, thank you." She laughed, happy to be reunited with the McLaren driver. "How have you been!"

"I've been great! Off season has been treating me nice, and it feels good to be attending this gala, very fancy." He shrugged as she fixated her gaze on his simple black and white tuxedo, mentally complimenting how well he cleans up. "And you?"

"That's good to hear." She smiled. "I've been doing good too, approaching fashion weeks and all that, it's been stressing me a little bit but nothing I can't manage."

"Yeah-"

"Hey Oscar." The two were suddenly interrupted. Thalia already matching the voice to a face as she let out an internal groan, fueled by both irritation and nervousness.

"Mind if I steal her for a second?" He asked as she still
refused to turn around.

"Uhhh..." Oscar hesitantly glanced at Thalia who was subtly shaking her head, telling him to say no.

"Sure." He responded, knowing what she wanted him to say, but decided to be a menace instead.

"Thanks, mate." She heard his laugh as the Aussie quickly excused himself, avoiding any more of her hard death glares as he walked away.

Taking a deep breath, Thalia knew she had to face him.

Slowly preparing herself, she attempted to shake off any nervous jitters before she finally turned, her eyes meeting his gaze, and there he was, standing in all of his glory.

A smirk already plastered on his face.

"Um.." Thalia glanced around the venue, noticing stares, even though they were stood by a secluded wall, away from the center of attention. "There's people staring..." She whispered, trying to avoid any eye contact now.

"Don't care." He shrugged.

"Right now, it's just you and me."

"God, you really are a PR managers worst nightmare." She huffed a laugh, an identical sound coming from him.

"Am I now?" He asked, Thalia looking anywhere but his face, internally clawing at her eyes for being in this situation. "You're so cringe." She laughed to herself, feeling too flustered as she finally looked him up and down, analyzing the fitted all black tuxedo he was in.

"You look good." She complimented, looking over at the ballroom as she felt his gaze fixated on where she was staring as well, before his eyes were back on her.

"Look at me, Thalia." He mumbled as she took a breath, still refusing to listen as her hand rubbed the back of her neck, and looked down at the floor

"Come on, Tanya." Lando teased, the sound of the nickname finally making her look at him with a death glare, but his wide smile making her features soften.

Looking into his eyes, she inhaled deeply to suppress the smirk on her face, all while she subtly played with the rings on her fingers as she brought her hands together.

"Had to get you to look at me somehow." He shrugged, shoving his hands into his pockets as she felt herself cool down, his eyes still looking into hers.

"What do you want?" She asked softly.

"I was serious about what I said last night." He was quick to get to the point.

"Were you?" She asked with a tilted head and suppressed grin. Her mind chastising her for allowing any of this to unfold as her heart engaged in a fierce battle, torn between conflicting emotions about the entire interaction.

"Super serious." Lando looked down nervously before glancing back at her. "Been on a mission to score a date with you the second I saw you again." He paused.

"Desperate much?" She laughed.

"Only for you..." He smirked with a nonchalant lift at his shoulders, her eyes rolling to the back of her head at how smooth he was.

"But why? Because you found out I was a model or?" Thalia quirked a brow as he was quick to correct his words..

"No, no, no." He shook his head. "It's complicated... well not really." His thoughts were racing. "When we met in LA because of that... incident." He paused.

"I thought you were incredibly beautiful."

"Cringe." She was quick to deflect his compliment, an unamused stare taking over his expression that made her laugh.

"When I found out you were the one to be working with McLaren... I thought of it as a second chance." He nervously scratched the back of his neck as Thalia's heart skipped a beat. "I then learned how hilarious, down to earth, and hardworking you are.."

"Keep going..." She bit down a laugh as he rolled his eyes.

"Might I add, extremely cocky." He added to the list as she softly pushed his shoulder in response, a scoff escaping her lips.

"And, I also learned how easy it was to hit on you."

"Hate to rain on your parade, but I hate when you do that." She said with a blank stare, his head shaking with a speechless smile.

"Which in result, I liked how feisty you got." He looked her in the eyes as she smiled at him.

"Like a chihuahua."

"And there it is." Thalia laughed, looking down at the floor to avoid Lando's gaze but soon fixating her eyes back on him.

"So, what do you say?" He came back to the subject at large as she fell into a deep thought for a brief second.

"I.. I don't know." She shrugged, taking a deep breath. "I'd have to think about it."

"So there's a chance?" His face lit up.

"Yes." She nodded, his excitement making the smile on her face feel permanent.

"So you do like me?"

"Don't ruin it." She groaned as a laugh escaped his lips. "Please." She was soon to join his fit of giggles.

"Okay, but how can I make this chance turn into a reality?" Lando asked, eager for her to oblige and say yes to a date as she fell into a deep thought.

"Take me on that sushi date."

"Are you serious?" His expression was quick to drop as she laughed at his reaction. "Oh, Mr. Norris, I'm so serious."

"You're joking." A disgusted expression painted his features as she placed a finger on his chest.

"If you want me to go on a date with you, then you have to eat sushi." She said sternly and up close to his face. Only mere centimeters separating the both of them.

"Well, if you insist." Lando paused. "Fine." He agreed, keeping close eye contact with Thalia as the corners of her lips lifted again as she she backed away.

"And when can I take you on this date?" He asked.

"That's for you to decide." She shrugged, his tongue poking at the inside of his mouth again as he let out a sigh.

"Second week of January." Lando raised a brow. "Are you free?" He asked as she thought about it.

"Should be."

"And what if I flew us out to Japan?" He smiled at his own suggestion, her eyes lighting up at the thought.

"Oh, so you're willing to try it authentically?" She asked.

"Yeah. Anything for you." He bit down on his bottom lip as she turned away, blushing at his tone of voice.

"Okay." Thalia nodded slowly. "Then it's settled." She exhaled, bringing her hands together as Lando happily looked down at her.

"We're going on a date."
