"Mr President!!"
"Alexander, what are you doing here?" Washington sighed in irritation, throwing his hands up into the air. As I peered around Alexander, I inspected the men gathered around the table right here at Washington's home. I thought none of these men with my first glance, but upon taking a closer look I found two individuals who I could recognise: Thomas Jefferson and James Madison.
I certainly could not remember encountering these men before, only Jefferson at the ship that day with Charles. On that note, we gained eye contact. It was curiosity mixed in with the utmost cruel menace. By his face alone, you could tell that he knew that something was wrong. Therefore, I drew my stares away and hid myself behind Alexander again.
"Sir, I'm in dire need of a favour from you-!"
"Can't you see I'm busy?" Washington questioned.
"Of course, Sir, but this is-!"
"Oh piss off, Hamilton!" grunted Jefferson. "It'd be better if you acquired a skill called patience."
"Oh, says you who couldn't wait to get it on with that Hemings girl!"
He furiously slammed his hands upon the table, taking his stand. "Those are false accusations!"
"Rumours only grow, Thomas!"
"Alexander, that's enough, now will you please take your leave?" A short man wearing rounded glasses confronted Alexander. With this, Jefferson sat down, clearly still infuriated.
"Oh, nice to see you for once, John!" he chimed in response. "Good to see you've not lost a single pound whilst you've been sat at home on your fat ass, you f-"
"Alright, alright, we will reconvene after a brief recess!" Washington interrupted. "Hamilton, get outside."
Emily and I backed up to allow Alexander to swiftly retreat from the entrance into the hall. Looking over, Emily had a face of pure shock upon her. Neither of us were expecting that in the slightest.
Washington closed the doors behind him. His face was tensed, red from humiliation. "Pull yourself together, you damn fool." he ordered, taking hold of Alexander's cravat. "Do you want me to replace you out?"
"Of course not, Sir-"
"Then what is so important that you had to humiliate me like that?!"
Alexander stepped aside and presented us to the President. It took him moments, but as the realisation came to him, his face sank. "...W- What-"
"I told you, Sir," Alexander murmured. "I told you this had happened."
"Yes, b- but we couldn't be certain..." I had never heard such a man of status stutter, not in all of my life.
Emily clutched my hand, intimidated by his presence. Though, his attention was directed more towards me. It was like every time he looked at me, his heart stopped. The redness upon his face had faded to a sudden white. "...How."
"We don't know, Sir." - Alexander shrugged - "Nobody knows. Not even them."
Washington gulped. "So neither of you remember a thing?"
"We- Yes, but... It's very vague." I answered.
He nodded and faced Alexander, a look that was begging him to say something. George Washington was the last person in this world that I would ever imagine would look this way.
"We come to you for advice," Alexander confessed. "Like I said... rumours only grow."
"I-" He exhaled, trailing around in a small circle with hands on his hips. "Never in history has this happened. Why in God's name were we chosen to handle it?!"
"The question is not why, but how." Alexander slouched against the wall. "How are we meant to tell the world about this without the risk of them being killed?"
"...Killed?" Emily whispered. Her grip on my hand tightened and her breathing rate increased.
"No, that won't happen," Washington made the conclusion. "That would never happen."
"I only ask of one favour, Sir." Alexander paced forward, coming face-to-face with him, despite their difference in height. His voice was tainted with despondency.
"Promise me that should anything happen, you will take care of them."
Releasing another sigh, Washington put his hand on to Alexander's shoulder. He gazed at us again, and with their touch, it was almost as if Alexander's despondency had transferred immediately into him. "I will do everything I can."
"Mr President!" Jefferson emerged through the doors, shoving his hands into his pockets. Even I was able to recognise how unprofessional it was. "Vice President Adams requires your acquaintance, Sir."
Though reluctant, Washington eventually nodded. "Tell him I'll be with him in a few minutes."
My sight accidentally crossed his once more. I was convinced that he would soon leave, but after a dozen seconds with Alexander growing increasingly impatient, Jefferson furrowed his eyebrows and tilted his head in Washington's direction. "Is there some way that I could assist with this matter at hand, Sir?"
"Does it look like this concerns you?"
Washington put his hand out to stop Alexander. "Thank you, Thomas, but this is out of your control."
Jefferson bowed his head. "Sir." Taking his hands out of his pockets and holding them behind his back, he twisted around to leave. Though, just before his face had vanished, a smirk arose on his face, one that implied mischief. As he strolled away, his shoulders jerked promptly, which led me to believe that he was chuckling.
He was up to something, and he was terrible at masking it.
"I don't like him, Y/N..." Emily whimpered. "I don't like him at all..."
I leaned closer to her. "It's alright. Alexander won't let anything bad happen to us. Nothing bad will happen to you."
"How can you know that for sure?" She gulped. "Is he... a bad man? From the musical?"
"...No, Emily," I reassured her, "he's not a bad man. Don't worry about him."
"Conceal it for as long as you can, Alexander, don't speak unless you are spoken to," Washington advised. "When the time comes that it must be addressed, do what you feel is necessary in a way that you feel is necessary. One simple mistake and these children's lives could be at great risk. Tell the truth and nothing but the truth. Don't ruin yourself, Alexander."
"I'll tr-" Alexander paused to rethink his sentence.
"I won't, Sir."
