Let It Out
(Y/N POV)
Despite Alexander enquiring that we discuss what we should do once we got back home, he only sat there in silence.
And, being socially awkward, so did I.
Which... didn't help whatsoever.
Out of boredom, I studied the living room. Hadn't I have noticed before, but I spotted a plank of wood from behind the sofa. On further inspection, I realised that a small piano remained in the corner of the room:
"It was a gift from an old friend." Alexander informed me. "Do you play?"
"What?" I questioned.
"...Do you play? The piano?"
"Oh, right!" Mum had bought me a keyboard for my 10th birthday, and from then on I self-trained myself. Never really had much experience.
"Yeah, well, I played the classics." I told him.
"Like Mozart?"
"No."
"Beethoven?"
"N- No... Y'know, like, Megalovania and All Star... The memes..." Alexander gave me a bewildered look. "...Yeah, you wouldn't know what they are."
"Then how about you show me?" he offered, spreading a hand out towards the piano.
"No thanks, I'm good." I declined.
"At least give it a try."
I sighed. "Okay fine."
I hastily got up and sat on the stool accompanying the piano. Alexander leaned on the side, watching me intensely.
Like... dude, stop.
I rubbed my hands together, trying to eradicate the sweat forming on them. Jeez, what should I play? I figured a meme wouldn't be so suitable, so I considered other options... pretty limited. Though, I did memorize the beginning to 'It's Quiet Uptown'...
Meh, as long as he doesn't know what it's about, we should be alright.
I acknowledged the fact that the black and white keys had been changed around, which was pretty confusing. I dealt with it, nevertheless, and focused on the keynotes. Before I knew it, I was off. My hands drifted across the piano, emersed in the song. For once I actually didn't mess it up. Holy cow.
"That was beautiful." Alexander stated.
"T- Thanks..." I stuttered, drawing my hands away frantically.
"I actually wanted to ask you about something." he revealed, scratching the side of his nose.
"What's that?"
"About yesterday..." Lord, did he still want to know about that? I'd told him numerous times that I don't remember anything. "I was curious about how you knew our names. Are we, perhaps, well-known in your time?"
"Oh, well..." Technically he didn't ask where he was known from, so I didn't need to tell him all of the details. "Yeah, actually. Some people even look up to you."
His face lightened up. "How so?"
"Well... You marry into a rich family, bare 8 children, have an afffffff--"
"'Afffffff' what?" Alexander questioned.
"Afffffffection! A very loving and compassionate affection towards them!" Heh... That was close...
Too close.
"I see... And if what you're saying is true, I can imagine my children to be quite charming. What about my eldest son?" Oh he really had to bring Philip into this, didn't he?
"Your... what?"
"My eldest son, what is he like?"
Internally, I was screaming. If I was seriously stuck here forever, then I may have to witness Philip's death. Even if I did tell Alex, Philip might not die as there could be a way I could prevent it. Being here as a whole ultimately changed everything. "He's just like you," I giggled, "Ambitious and determined to reach his goals."
"That's my boy alright." Alexander laughed, "And who is this lovely lady to whom I am wed?"
"Her name is Elizabeth Schuyler, b--"
"A Schuyler??" He raised his hands in disbelief, eyes bulging from his socket.
"Yeah... You've heard of 'em?"
"The Schuylers are one of the wealthiest families in New York, if not the wealthiest!" Alexander exclaimed excitedly. "Can I meet her now instead?"
"No."
"Why not?" He pouted in disappointment.
"Because I'm not becoming the one responsible for shaping history!"
A knock was heard at the door. Alexander went over to open it, and I could immediately hear bickering from behind it. "Good evening, gentlemen." he greeted. Unfortunately, I couldn't hear what they were saying, as their voices were mumbled, but Alexander didn't sound very impressed by it. "I assure you, sir, that I know nothing about this. Good day to you all." I jolted off of the piano stool to catch a glimpse of the strangers before the door was closed. Yet, they caught me first.
"Is that the girl that was with you, Mr Hamilton?!" one tall man interrogated. Another bulky man blocked the door from closing fully, as yet another slim man started sketching down my face.
"Gentlemen, I need to ask you to leave my property!" Alexander urged.
"But Mr Hamilton, evolution is at its finest! See here!" The tall one who was mainly trying to talk Alexander out wielded out... my phone...
Oh no.
"Let them in." I told Alexander.
"You're kidding."
"Just let them in otherwise they're never gonna leave!" I ground under my teeth. He let go of the doorknob, and the three men flooded in. Alexander led them to the living room, and without even asking of his permission, they sat down on his sofa.
"We are aware that your faces have been published in the newspaper." the tall man started.
"--And we would like to gather further investigation of this object." the slim one finished.
"We know noth--"
"It's mine!" I interrupted Alexander. The slim man violently returned writing on his paper.
"Would you care to tell us what this is?" the tall one interrogated once more.
"Well..." -I thought of a better story, yes, better than the ones I used at court- "My grandfather was a scientist. We built this thing together, of course, a failed experiment. After he died, even though it doesn't work properly, I kept it in his memory."
"I see. And Mr Hamilton here is...?"
"Uncle." Alexander answered, "I adopted her into my care after the death of her parents."
"Yes, yes. May I ask your name, Miss?"
"Sophie Hamilton." I lied. By now I'd completely decided to adopt that name as my own. On the expectations that the phone would be handed back to me, I waited. All three were implying their own notes.
I started to grow impatient.
Never would they know that the device they held within their keeping was a revolutionary design.
I couldn't let them keep it.
"Excuse me, would I be able to take it back?" I asked.
"I'm afraid not, Miss. You see, we see great potential in this. If you would only let us take it for adjustments, we could grant you a great sum of money..." The interrogating man rubbed his thumb and forefinger together, signifying the wealth we could be given for this. It would totally help Alexander out, considering how penniless he really is...
I left the matter up to him.
Without a second glance, Alexander stole the phone from the man's grasp, smashing it on the floor. Pieces of glass shattered across the floorboards, so I stepped back a bit. "Sir, you realise that you can be imprisoned for this!" the bulky man yelled, standing up to face Alexander.
"Imprisoned for what? Destroying my niece's crippled invention? Even if you tried, it could never work. If anyone should be imprisoned, it should be the three of you for barging into our humble household! Now leave my property at once!!" Alexander ordered. Clearly stunned by his rage, the three left without a word.
"Pathetic." he mumbled. "I'm sorry I did that, Y/N, it had to be done."
"It's fine," I replied, "I'm glad you did it. Otherwise, those jerks could've ruined everything." Alexander nodded in appreciation, yawning as he did so.
"We should probably get to sleep. In the morning we'll take a trip to town to fetch you a dress or two." he explained. "Thinking about it... We may also have to arrange for you to join a school."
"Oh, cool... wait school??!"
