Basic story:
Charles Briggan, after searching years for his missing neice compiles all his documents in effort to publish and spread word of her mysterious dissappearance and assumed death. As he finds and reads multitudes of documents left over from the fire that consumed his newly inherited family home, he begins to suspect that what caused the tragedy to befall his family is  more and more based in paranormal horror.

Abigail's story:
Recently moved from her home in Ohio to stay in her family's ancient inherited house to care for a dying centinal grandfather, Abby begins to investigate the house, discovering a dusty old journal of a girl not recorded in any of her family history. As she reads the journal, her homelife grows more and more unstable as her father becomes violent and abusive and begins mirroring the behavior of the father of the girl writing the journal. Paranormal things start ramping up and telling fiction from reality becomes a struggle as Abby falls victim to the same influences affecting her father, in a much different way.
Culminating in her attempting to destroy the home and herself inside it through a fire.

Historia's story:
Historia is eldest of the many children of Arthur and Patience Briggan, and her journal details the strange sickness that plagues her father shortly after her mother's death by childbirth. As her father grows sicker, she is made to take up the house and home in her mother's stead. Arthur Sr. Grows increasingly more abusive both physically and sexually to Historia, and the sickness that plagues him seems to make him transform into a terrible, inhuman entity, killing many of his children before going after Historia, who succeeds in killing him and saving her baby brother from an untimely death.

She stays in the home until her death, keeping it in the family to be maintained by one person only at any given time, as the malevolent entity within its walls will possess the patriarch of any family that lives in its walls.
