Chapter Two: Tripping

The day's went on, and I got that job in the café. I was so excited to start, and I learnt quickly on the job. It was similar to brewing a potion when you make coffee and other hot drinks, but you're not blowing anyone up with it.

I was currently cleaning a table that was now empty, with cups drained of their substance. The white cloth: that was damped with water. I rubbed it over the table making sure it was clean. Out of the corner of my eye, I see a waiter with light brown hair coming out with a full tray of plates that held food. I can see that he was struggling and wobbling all over the place. Just as he was walking through the crowd of people on the floor, he was stumbling all over, and I could see this would end badly. Just then he tripped over his own feet. Spoke too soon. But instinctively I flicked my fingers in his direction, as the room became frozen. The tray frozen in mid-air, plates tumbling off the edge. The decision on what to do weighed heavily on my shoulders, should I help, but I wanted to be normal and live a life without magic for once. But my concussions got the better of me.

I quickly looked around to make sure that everyone was frozen, before throwing my cloth on the table that I was cleaning and rushing in front of him. I quickly grabbed the plates that were floating in mid-air, which was two. With my free hand, I straightened up his tray in his hand, and placed the plates back onto the tray, as everyone was still frozen. As everything looked the same, I placed my hands at either side of the tray, and then the room unfroze, and he tumbled forward but kept himself from falling.

"Careful," I state, as I guided the tray to be steady in his hands. He looked at me surprised, a small smile appearing on his face.

"Thank you," he replied gently, as he toddled off to the table to serve their food. I let out a sigh, as I returned to my table to finish cleaning. As I peered up through my lashes, I saw him staring at me with his blue eyes, I couldn't help but have a smile on my face. Maybe coming to New York wasn't so bad, there are always innocent's to save.

...................................

It came to night and the café was closing for the night, I was left with Beth and that waiter from earlier, who nearly tripped over his own feet. He was called Mason Martin, he was cute to be fair, he was really nice too. As I began to pull my black coat around my outfit, I saw Mason pull his own coat around him, as we were leaving at the same time. At the same time, we both headed for the door, him going first but holding the door open for me, I smiled at him as I walked outside, he quickly matched my pace.

"Hey...Jessica, right?" He asked as if he didn't know, but he did. It said it on my name tag.

"Yeah, nice to meet you," I stopped and held my hand out for him to shake, and he gladly did it, before it ended a second later.

"Likewise," He smiled as we both started walking again. "So, what made you get a job there?" He asked, so intrigued on why I wanted a job there.

"Just to get some cash, I need money to pay rent and other things," I chuckled at my answer to him, but I knew that the rent on the apartment was paid in six months, so I didn't have to worry so much about that for the time being.

"Not unless you're Tony Stark, rich as. And he's Iron Man," Mason looked behind us for a split second to look at Stark Tower, wondering what it was like to be someone important. I thought of every person to be important in life, so more than others.

"Yeah, I've seen the news," I replied, as I continued to walk down the street. "So, Mason, why do you work at the Café?" I was also intrigued by the reason.

"Parent's said I had to get a job, so I did. Plus, I like working there...And for a bonus I see a pretty girl all day," he states with a smug look on his face as I turn to look at him, I raised an eyebrow at his comment.

"You must be staring at someone else," I laughed, before I knew it, I was outside my apartment. "My stop," I glanced behind as he stopped in front of me.

"Well then, it was nice meeting you Jessica, and thanks again for saving my ass earlier," He replied, giving me a tight wide smile, I gave him a quick nod.

"It's what I do," I smiled at him, before entering my front door, and walking up the flight of stairs until I reached my apartment door. I unlocked the door, and went inside, throwing my keys on the kitchen island, and closing the door behind.

"What a long day," I huff, before moving to stand in front of the couch, and slummed down onto it. I closed my eyes to relax my mind, but then was a swift knock on the front door. I urged myself to move after a few seconds of mental screaming. I swiftly got up from the couch as I approached the door. I swing it open to reveal no other than, Piper and Leo.

"Piper, Leo?" I asked, stunned at their sudden arrival. "What are you doing here?" A confused look plastered my face as they just stood there smiling, before coming in for a hug.

"I know it's been a few days, and we wanted to drop by to see how things were going," Piper states excitedly, as she waltzes into the apartment, Leo following behind.

"Yeah, things are great. I got a job at a local Café, so it's good." I state, while closing the door, and turning towards them as they stood in the middle of the room, looking around the place, as now it was fully decorated and furnished.

"We popped by because you left something at the manor," Leo had announced as Piper was busy taking in the view for a few moments. I pulled a confused face, as he grabbed a small black soft material notebook, from inside his coat pocket, holding it out to me as Piper regained her focus on the matter at hand.

My face softens, as I stare at the notebook in awe. "My first spell book," My voice soft and gentle. I remember, after two years of living with Piper, Phoebe and Prue, they wanted me to write down spells as I was still a child and wanted my imagination to flow. But the spells I put in the book were great, and actually would work if they would have let me test them out. However, they were perfect to speak.

"We thought that you might want it now. That you have your own Book of Shadows...Of course you can still use ours," Piper states, pulling me out of my thoughts as I smiled at her and Leo. I grabbed the book from Leo's hand, and pressed the book against my chest, tears swelling in my eyes, threatening the floodgates.

"Don't cry honey," Leo coos, as he grabs me into a hug. Leo was like a father to me, since we met and knew what he truly was. Not a handy man for sure, but he could fix a lot of things. Problems too. He was there when I needed a male role model in my life.

"Tears of joy," I state between the sobs, as Piper wrapped her hands around us both, getting into the hug too. "How did you get here?" I went off topic for a moment as I thought, how they got here, because Leo couldn't orb, he was mortal now.

"Paige," Piper states, as both pull back from the hug. Piper reached under my eyes as a tear ran down my face, she used her thumb to remove it, she gave me a warm motherly smile.

"Thank you for bringing it to me...Do you want me to orb you back?" I state as I held the book still tightly to my chest.

"No problem sweetie, and if you want," Piper replied as she gave me a smile as did Leo, as they stood in the middle of the room, hand in hand, ready to go.

"Bye... Home..." I waved my hand out to them, and they were surrounded by white and blue orbs, and they were gone in seconds. I sigh, looking down at the black notebook rubbing the cover for a second, before opening it. In the front cover was the words 'My Book Of Shadows, by Jessica Halliwell' it was written by my 13-year-old self, the writing at that age was really fancy and elegant, and it kept with me throughout my teens and now adulthood. I flip the page over to my first spell; it was to vanquish my first demon. I laugh at the words that I had written down, at least it rhymed. I flipped more pages, there was all sorts that was in the book, Astral Project, Protection, Cloaking, Change appearance; I think I was trying to scare someone with that spell. I chuckle at my younger self spells.

I know I need to grow as a person and also a witch, I don't want to live in the shadows of the Charmed Ones, and when time comes the next generation of Charmed Ones will come. I do love them as my family, but I need to go on my own now, I need to do things that I've dreamt of since I was a little girl.

I wouldn't change them for anything in the world...
