Chapter One: The Orb

*March 14th, 2012*

"Piper, I'm going to be late!" I yelled through the manor, as I stood in the conservatory with a large suitcase and two bags of luggage. I see Piper quickly rush in from the kitchen as a 9-year-old Wyatt following behind, then an 8-year-old Chris behind Wyatt. I smiled as she approached me with a white box, with a tied red ribbon around it's lid. I raised my eyebrow to her, as she held out the gift to me.

"I said no presents. I'm not leaving forever," I chuckled at her, as the boys stood at her legs looking up at me.

"I know but I couldn't resist," She states, urging me to take the box. I smiled warmly to her as I took the box from her hands and placed it gently in one of my bags. Just then, blue and white orbs filled the space behind Piper. As the orbs cleared, Phoebe and Paige stood there with warm smiles of their own.

"Ohh, sweetie, you're leaving already?" Aunt Phoebe states as she comes over to me and begins hugging the death out of me.

"Phoebe I'm off to New York. I've always wanted to see the city since I was a little girl. Now I'm a grown woman and I can," I state to her as she pulls back from the hug with a small smile on her face.

"I know sweetie. To be honest it's a nice place, also the men there are like--" Her eyes rolled to the back of her head in a good way, emphasising that they were hot and to die for.

She was suddenly cut off by Piper. "Phoebe!" She held a tone that I know too well. I chuckle at them both, as Paige came to stand next to Piper and the boys.

"I'm going to miss you all so much, and I know I say this so often to you guys. But thank you for taking me in all those years ago, I really do look up to you as sisters and I know Prue would be proud of us all," I state gently as I said her name. I think it was still a touchy subject to me. They all nodded their heads with tears watering their eyes, as they bombarded me for a group hug. We all squish together, as I soaked this moment up as they did the same. It was like they were their daughter going on her own now. After a few more moments hugging we all pulled back.

"We are only a phone call away, and an orb away," Paige states, as they took a step back. I nodded to them as I smiled a wide one.

"Bye guys. Look after you Mum boys," I aimed my direction to Wyatt and Chris, as they ran up to me and began hugging my waist.

"We will Aunt Jess," both of them state. I let out an 'awe' sound, as I patted them on their shoulders, leaving a few moments after. They stood next to their Mum, as I grabbed hold of my bags and suitcase. I waved to them as they waved back, and suddenly I was surrounded by my own blue orbs. Orbing away with my things, leaving the manor behind.

.........................................

I landed in my new, New York apartment, which was kindly rented in advance of six months by Piper as she saved enough money from the club and her restaurant. It wasn't big and fancy, but it will do. There was an upstairs where the bedroom lays, and a toilet. It was already furnished as I was planning to move in, and Piper, and the rest helping out by orbing things in, and unpacked.

I smile to myself as I rolled my suitcase into the middle of the living room and dropping the two bags onto the floor next. I slummed down onto the couch, as I let out a sigh, before bending down unzipping one of the bags, and grabbed the present that Piper had given me. I gave it a twirl before removing the red ribbon and slid the top off. I gaze at the gift in such shock, as I grabbed the piece of leather rope. I pulled it out until it was fully visible, at the end; dangling was a purple crystal that I used the very first time for scraying for a demon. I smile at Piper's gift.

"A reminder of home," I state, as I place the crystal around my neck, fitting it under my black blouse. As I looked at my luggage, really not wanting to carry them up the stairs. "Bedroom," I waved my hand out to them as I said the words. As the words were spoken, the bags started to generate blue and white orbs, before orbing away and into the bedroom upstairs. At least no one was around to shout at me for doing that. I smile to myself before ascending my way to my room, to unpack clothes.

.........................................

It's been hours since I officially moved in. I peered into the walk-in closet to see it looked livelier, I got dressed in a new outfit. A white button up top, that was tied at the bottom. Baggy light blue jeans, and some see through heels. I could make anything work. I came out of the closet and checked myself out in the full-size mirror that was placed in the corner of my bedroom. I gave a twirl before giggling to myself.

As for my job, I have gotten a lot of new skills when I was with the Halliwell's. Phoebe taught me how to defend myself if I get into any trouble with demons or just other humans. She also taught me that I should never give up on love.

Piper taught me how to cook when I ever need to impress the boys with my cooking skills. She also taught me that I can be a strong, independent woman. That I don't need a man in my life if I didn't want one.

Paige taught me how to paint, because I was still a growing child, I needed something to occupy my mind and hands. Painting and drawing did that and to my surprise I was actually good at it.

All of them taught me about witchcraft when I was old enough to actually practice my powers. They taught me how to make up spells, how to brew a strong potion that would knock a God onto his ass. The most important lesson of all, they taught me was, family mattered. I knew that right from the start when I joined their family. I witnessed them all growing closer to one another as sisters and it made me happy, I felt like I was part of the family and I was.

I smile to myself as I thought of all the things that they have given me over the past 14 years. I was lucky that I was entrusted with them. Maybe I could be a waitress for the time being, get some income after the six months are up. I bounce down the steps as I come to the first door, grabbing my keys from the kitchen island, and heading out into the city of New York.

.................................

After a while of job searching, I went into bars and restaurant's asking if they had any vacancies for a position, but I had no look. The day was coming to an end, the sun still out but slowing dimming as the hours went by. As I approached the Grand Central Terminal, I peered through the window to see many people rushing down to get their trains. My mind couldn't believe that I was in the Big Apple. The entrance of the Grand Central Terminal was under a bridge. People rushing by it was a busy place. As I peer down the road from the Grand Central, I see a cafe, bar, restaurant shop. Chairs were placed around small, rounded tables that were metal. It piqued an interest. So, I went to check it out.

As I approached the door's people were coming out as they held it open for me, I gave them a smile and a nod before entering. I look around the slightly busy cafe, I see a waitress approach me.

"Hello, and welcome to the Central Cafe. How may I help you?" the female waitress said, her eyes staring into mine, as I looked at her tag name, which was placed on her uniform.

"Hey, Beth. I was wondering if you have any jobs going?" I asked, with pleading eyes, this was my last stop for today and I had a strange feeling, but a good feeling about this place. She looked me over for a few seconds before, leaning in.

"Actually, we are short of staff and we need a new waitress as the other one quit a few days ago," she states with a cute tone in her voice, my face lit up like a Christmas tree. "Come back tomorrow morning for an interview," she smiles as she walks away to a customer hailing Beth. I smiled to myself, as I left the cafe. Luckily, it wasn't far as my apartment was in Midtown. As I stood outside, looking up to the sky, seeing Stark Tower high peering down to me. I began to walk back to my apartment, thinking of the new life that I'm going to start tomorrow...

...............................

As I was comfortable in my queen size bed, the white duvet pulled halfway down my body. I relaxed my mind, my eyes drifting shut as sleep took me in as it's baby. Thinking how great it is to have my own place, but it will be different without the rest of the people that I was used to around.

I began to have a dream. I was walking around the forest, my legs just taking me anywhere. Through the trees I could see a metal man fighting with a blonde brute of a man. He has a hammer tight in his left hand, looking at the metal man, speaking but I couldn't hear any words. I wanted to stop and watch from afar, but my legs didn't agree as they took me closer to the scene. But before I could get any closer to the scene, I just stopped in mid track...

I shot up from the bed, my forehead sweaty, as I stared around the bedroom, knowing where I was. It felt so real, like I was really there, but I couldn't be. I thought I could have a couple of normal days without having anything magically happen.

But I was wrong...
