Chapter 1: Senior Year Bitch

  Hello Journal,
Welcome to your senior year. I've realized we have a lot of history together since our freshman year and I mean, man, look  how far we've  come. We're all grown up.
Summer is over unfortunately and it's time to crawl back into the fiery pits of hell of high school. Although this year should be the highlights of our lives. I mean if you're me of course.
Cassie got home yesterday from her trip to Spain, which means she was right in time for our annual change. Cassie cut her long blonde locks for a short bob that finally made her ever so straight hair, wavy. As for me well I added a couple of golden highlights but I'm not sure how I feel about them. I wanted to cut my hair into a bob like Cassie's but she insisted that I hold off, afraid I might regret it. Oh Cassie, always cautious.
     Speaking of Cass-

"Artemis, Artemis Evans if you don't answer me so help me god!" My mother shouts from downstairs, I sigh closing my tattered journal, and slide on my slippers as I make my way out of my room.

"Artemis!" She yells and I laugh to myself as I make my way downstairs to the cluttered kitchen, where I can spot my mother furiously flipping pancakes. She had on her worn down purple apron that said "Don't kiss the chef, she has morning breath!", that my dad had gotten her for Mother's Day when I was eight. Her auburn hair was pulled into a lose pony tail with little patches of flour through out it.
My mother, Jane, had on her work clothes. A pair of black jeans and a white cotton shirt. She honestly could wear whatever she wanted because her and my father owned the local diner in town. "Speedy's Diner", the best diner in town. Ironically we were the only diner in town.
I reach up behind mom and give her a quick kiss on the check. "For the record I don't think that pancake has ever done anything to you to deserve this type of abuse." I joke looking at the dysfunctional pancake that has been burned on one side. I look at it warily and mouth and apology towards it.

I think I'll just grab an orange this morning..

My mom didn't cook any of the meals in the diner, she lacked in the ability of making edible food. Luckily my dad is in charge of it, most of the times. Now I'm not saying that I don't appreciate her trying to cook, but that last time someone ate her pancakes by best friend Cassie got food poisoning from the undercooked egg in the batter.

"Well I was calling you for an half hour trying to get you to take control over the situation, but as you can tell, um, I took it into my own matters." My mom replies gesturing to several bowls of batter, all different constituencies. I cringe at the lumps she didn't beat out.

"Um, yeah I can tell, maybe I shoul-"

I'm cut off by the slamming of my front door against the wall, as my best friend Cassie Lynn happily makes her way inside my home. She was already dressed for school. She had on a floral print sundress with her denim jacket and white book bag.

"Good morning Evans family! Mr. Evan what's on the menu today, I'm starv-" Cassie starts but cuts off when realizes that my mom is the one behind the stove. Her checks turn slightly red and she twirls at in her circle pointing at the door then her watch. I can't help but laugh when she looks at me for help to save her from my mothers cooking."Mrs. Evans, hey girl, well would you look at the time-I-ugh gotta get to school early. You know senior year, yay!" She fake squeals. I pour myself a glass of water shaking my head at Cassie. That had to be the lamest excuse she's ever given my mother.

"I give up." She turns off the stove, tosses  the pancakes and wipes her hands surrendering them to us. "Oh and Cassie, you being on time? I'm sorry hun but we both know that I can't cook and you're never on time." She scowls playfully, as she makes her way out the kitchen."Get ready for school Artemis that way you have time to stop at the diner. I'll text your father now." She finishes as she disappears into the hall.

Cassie grabs my hands dragging me up to the stairs. "I'm going to forgive you for not warning me about your mother cooking today and help you get ready for school."

"Great I really didn't feel like shaving my legs today." I joke and she slaps my arm playfully as we make our way upstairs. Cassie takes her usual spot on on bed, underneath my covers, as I proceed to get ready for school. Senior year.

I quickly take a shower and wash my face. I don't have time to wash my hair today so I decided on leaving it in its messy bun as I go to pick out my outfit. I don't hesitate when I pick out a pair of my shorts and white tee, with some red converse. I shake my hair out and place it into a pony tail and take out a few strand to make sure it looks extra messy.

As I grab my back back I pick up and old shoe and throw it at Cassie. It accidentally hits her in the face and she springs out of the bed. Huh, guess that works.

Mental note: responds quicker with shoe

"I'm up, I am up." I grab her hand and drag her out of bed."You couldn't find anything softer?". I shrug my shoulders and noisily make my way down stairs.

"Artemis!" My mother yells.

"Mother!" I mimic back and grab my keys off the little rack on the wall next to the door."I'm leaving by the way. Never coming back so don't wait up on me."

"Never wanted you in the first place!" She sings back and Cassie's green eyes light up with amusement. That's one of things I've always admired about her Cassie she had a similar sense of humor to mine. Not to mention the fact that Cassie was the most lovable person I know.

"Breaking news in OakHeart: Artemis Evans leaves mother due to her horrible cooking skills. She is claimed to have charges against almost murdering her daughter and her best friend. How ever will the diner survive due to horrible charges against the Evans?" Cassie mimics our town news caster Tom Franks, in the deepest voice that she can't possibly make. Everyone makes fun of Tom because he was always trying to make a story out of everything.

You can't even buy tampons without him creeping up on you.

"Don't forget you both have a shift today!"

Being that my parents owned the diner we were able to get jobs there when we turned sixteen. It was perfect, we got payed to eat food, that my dad makes. Not only that but we got great tips which we saved in our "Adventures Jar".

"Okay!" We both yell and with that were on way out the doer.

"So what's the plan for today, you know since we have early release and a short shift?" Cassie asks strapping the extra helmet I kept on my bike, to her head. I grab mine and strap it on sliding down the visor and hopping on.

"I was thinking maybe we can go down to the lake, drink a little booze!" I shout as I rear up the engine. Cassie hops on wrapping her arms around me.

"Shout it any louder you dumb fuck!" Her laughs vibrate throughout my back and with that I release the kick stand and read up the engine once more.

"Can you try not to kill me this time! And don't go to fast I did my hair nice today!"

"That's why you have a helmet. Hold on!" I shout back and with that I release my Harley into the town streets and speed my way to the dinner.

That's right.

I'm the bitch with the motorcycle.

~

"I think I'm going to throw up." Cassie wines as she removes her helmet and wobbly gets off the bike. She fixes her dress and flattens her hair. I roll my eyes at her, we've been riding on my bike for almost two years now and she insisted on wearing a dress every time.

I just want to know how many people she's flashed without realizing.

I take my keys out of the ignition and remove my own helmet, releasing my hair from its pony tail. "We ate like thirty minutes ago, I wasn't even going that fast." Her mouth drops open at my statement her eyes narrowing in on me.

"Dude you were going like 85 miles per hour in a 25 miles rural area!" I smirk at her and make my way to the entrance of Oak Heart High school, home of the Hearts. One more year to go, I think to myself. Cassie catches up with me and loops her arm with mine.

" Mmh do you smell that," she says dreamily."I smell freedom."

"I smell incoming freshman." I joke.

Freshman we're mailed there schedules towards the end of August that way they had and idea of where they were going when they finally came. Unfortunately that still didn't help them they all stared at there maps trying to figure out which building they were supposed to go into for home room.

Our school was divide into there parts. We had the arts, academics, and the athletics. Each building bigger than than the next. The arts was located to the left of the school, the academics in the middle and the athletics towards the right, including the back where we had our football field, baseball field/softball field, track field, soccer field, and lacrosse field. The buildings all connected to the main hall way, we called it The Upside down, because I kid you not you could loose anyone in the mass swarm of people.

The bell rings signaling the warning bell to get to home room. Our home room was located in the Arts sector, Mrs. Garcia has been with us for our freshman year and she honestly didn't care if we showed up or not, but after a long summer of not seeing anyone I decided we should go.

Girls hangout around there lockers, catching up with friends over the long months of summer. The sound of laughter and "oh my god no way" filling my ears. The upper class "men" lean against the lockers checking out the new arrivals. Hitting each other every time they see a girl wit a nice ass.

"Oh god, they only get worse. I don't get what's so appealing about being with a fourteen year old if you're eighteen. It's disgusting!" Cassie complains as we pass by them rolling her eyes. The disgust pouring out of the both of us.

"Woah, look at these babes." One of them hollers, whistling when they get a sight from the behind. "Hey uh, Artemis why don't you come here so we can catch up on what you did over the summer with out me." I stop in my tracks. I knew that over arrogant voice anywhere. My body tenses with annoyance, my brain yelling at me to keep walking, to keep ignoring the idiot. But I knew the idiot and I didn't particularly have the patience to deal with it anymore.

The one and only Zach Daniels stood behind a smirk permanently implanted in his face.

My ex boyfriend ladies and gentlemen.

I cross my arms over my chest, my eyebrows slowly raising. His presence reeked of cockiness as he moved closer to me , his eyes roaming over every inch of me. I shift under his gaze, disgusted by how bluntly he was staring me down. Lost in his own thoughts."Zachary." I snap my fingers up to his face guiding his eyes from my boobs to my chest. "My eyes are here."

He breaks out into a grin. "Aw baby still hurt over the little incident." He teases, flicking my nose. Cassie slaps his hand away, shooting dangers into his face. My eye roll so far back in my head I'm surprised they don't get stuck.

Little incident.

Because accidentally placing your penis into Stacy Masons vagina was an accident.

Zach and I started dating the beginning of junior year. We had intro to construction and we had been placed at the same table. At first I found him annoying because, being the only girl in that class he tried advancing on me with his punchlines that no girl in her right mind would fall for, and I didn't. Once he got the hint that I wasn't for his cliche antics he dropped the role and spoke to me like if he actually received an education throughout his life. For that short period of time that we talked I found myself liking the person behind the mask.  He wasn't an asshole, he honestly tried getting to know me and took me on a date to The Hideout, my favorite cafe in town, as our first date. We talked for hours until closing that day and I was starting to like him. Our second date he asked me to wear his away jersey for the homecoming football game and be his 'cheerleader' for that night. When we won, because let's face it we're awesome, he asked me to be his girlfriend and I gladly accepted. It lasted until May, but in between the months our relationship wasn't at the level it was supposed to be.
We dealt with a lot of problems before we got to a clear path, which lasted for about two weeks. So I called a quits, why would I want to stay with a cheater without the ability to at least , try, and come up with a good excuse.

I cross my arms over my chest, my boobs getting uncomfortable from his lingering stare.

"Do you honestly think I even thought about you after we broke up?" I retaliate with a light snarl.

"Cause she didn't." Cassie defends, backing me up. I mentally kiss her, how do people without best friends live?

"Do you know how great my summer was without having to worry about a child?"

"It was amazing!" Cassie half yells at Zach, slightly getting in his face, causing him to back up. The smirk on his face dropping.

"And you want to know what else, Zachary?" This time I lean in closer with my beautiful bitch face mask.

"Yeah you wanna know what else,Zachary."

"I certainly didn't think of you when I was calling out another guys name. Over and over, and over and over."

His face turns deeply red as he stares down at me with a face of hatred, I smirk. Knowing that I hit home, popping that impeccable boy bubble that protected their self of steam.

"Damn! She just said you wasn't good enough to please her during the day and at night!" Cassie hollers in a deep voice. Zach's group sneak in a couple off laughs but stay shut when his head snaps in there direction. Threatening to end their lives if they so much as breath.

Smiling, I reconnect arms with Cassie and turn away from a silent Zach. "It was nice catching up! We should do it again next time."

Cassie and I laugh our entire way to homeroom repeating the conversation about five times.

Reaching our door we stand outside of it for a couple of seconds, glancing at each other. I grab Cassie's hand and give it a light squeeze.

This is it.

It's the same as lasted year, and the year before that, and the year before that. Mrs.Garcia is up and away regretting her students, then welcoming the new comers in town. Like she always does she's drawn on her black board, the only teacher with roots to a child hood, a big congratulations sign on this being our last year here.

"Woah, she's really out done herself."Cassie says in awe taking in the colorful decorations Mrs.Garcia has placed through out the room. There ware streamers on each of our tables, with three balloons in the middle of them, each in our school colors of white and red. In the far back of the room, where the windows to the field laid, there was two table set up in the back with drinks and snacks.

Chocolate, she has chocolate.

Dies.

"Mm hm, she really has. 2'o'clock snacks. Move." I order Cassie who barley hears me as she stares at the series of art displayed in the corners of the room. "Cassie." I whine and point to the chocolate. Even though I'm already full, there's always room for dessert. Always.

My attempts at reeling Cassie back into the real world are no use. Once she gets into the art, she gets into it. Cassie's obsession with all things art started when she was eleven, when she took an introduction to drawing class where she drew her first self portrait. She had a knack for it naturally and once she realized it herself she begged her mom to sign up for art lessons at a studio about forty five minutes from here. She goes about three times a week, sometimes more, depending on her work shifts.

"Artemis! Cassie!" The voice of Mrs. Garcia breaks Cassie out of her trance which causes me to laugh lightly as we give her a group hug.

"Mrs.Garcia it's been...long." I joke, my teachers smile adding more happiness to my mood. "How was your summer?"

Her browns eyes sparkle as she ties up her brownish-blonde hair. She was beautiful, a work of art you might say. She has an amazing personality, and loves traveling and meeting new people.

"Well it's not Mrs.Garcia anymore, it's actually Ms.Price. Boom." She says making an explosion with her hands as my best friend looks at me wide eyed.

What happened with that? She seems to ask and I shrug my shoulders, not sure why the sudden change. But I brush it off and give my home room teacher a thumbs up.

"I like the extra effect it gives it a little more oomph, you know?" She signs running her hands down her face while laughing."Although my parents didn't exactly.. find it that funny. Actually they were prett-"

"What happened?!" Cassie gushes out and I smack my forehead shooting her a look.

Boundaries, Cass. Boundaries

"You guys are like ying and yang but opposite of each other depending on the day. I still can't figure out who's the adventurous one and who's the mom. You guys should figure that." She jokes but then shrug her shoulders, smiling sheepishly."But to answer you question Cassie it's simple. I'm 28,I got married at 20 with the love of my life at the time and.. things just didn't work out the way we thought it would when we finalized everything in high school. Expectations weren't meet and I know this might be shocking and, well, role reversed but I fell out of love."

Falling out of love, I'm not artist but that's a picture that would tell a thousand words.

"I'm sorry Mrs-I mean Ms.Price, I hope you're okay?" I mentally gag at my bendy friends hopeless affection for true love.

I throw my arm around one of my favorite teachers. "Of course she's fine. Hello single hot lady, who no doubt, traveled the world with exotic male foreigners waiting on her hand and foot." On cue my teacher and I both swoon causing the three of us to laugh.

"Well what about you ladies?" She asks the smirks at my crossing my arms."Artemis, I know for sure you have done things even the eye can't believe what is to be seen.

"All in due time Ms.price, luckily for you Cassie has you all year so you'll be getting snippets of my adventures through her."

As you can tell due to us being so close to Ms.price, wow that really going to take some getting used to, we decided to let her in on my sacred traditions in the summer time. Then when we returned to school Cassie painted a piece every month and gave it to her, we don't know what she does with them, but she insists that she has to have every piece that Cassie makes of my summer.

As for the traditions of summer, that started in the summer of the fifth grade where I had been punished for the first time because I cut off Stacy Manons golden ponytail.  It was literally only one strand, but Stacy liked, and likes, to make little things into big things. So I got punished and Thomas Wells, fifth grade hottie, was throwing the first party of our "adult" hood. I didn't want to miss it, they were going to have bouncy houses and spongebob icepops!I convinced Cassie to move her dads working  ladder to my window to which I snook off into the night with best friend and jumped on trampolines, until..

10:00 at night. Total badass status.

The thrill that gave me only made me want to do more things like sneaking into the Johnsons house next door to go swimming. They were this old couple who literally didn't pay afternoon to anything and from there it only escalated and got more adventurous.. and slightly dangerous you can say.

Saving lives by day, fucking shit up at night.

"Well I have no doubt that Cassie won't disappoint. I want all details when I receive the first painting. Now have a seat, unfortunately we are still in school."

With that we get to your table where we're greeted by Nova and Zrra (a/n: pronounced Zara, in just spelling it differently.). They are our in school friends, but that one time hang out side of school friends. Cassie and I switch off giving hugs to the girl and take a seat.

"I swear you guys just get hotter and hotter, what the hell do you guys do?" Zraa asks dumbfounded, the looks down at her tanned skin and small boobs."I mean come on I've been waiting since the fourth grade to get boobies and I have none." She jokes which cause her to laugh.

"Eat." Cassie and I say at the same time shrugging our shoulders.

God I love being a fatass. #fatassnationforlife

"Well besides that opening question every year," Nova says casting her green eyes to Zrras hazel ones, in a playful glare."We really need to hang out and for real this time. I mean come on we alway have a good time when we're out and you guys are hilarious. Besides we have some pretty awesome friends not to mention that they all happen to bs cute, but that's just a plus." She winks at Cassie and I.

I honestly wanted to hang out more with them. Besides Cassie all I have is Cassie. Maybe expanding the group by two more friends wouldn't hurt, right?

"You guys are right! It's our senior year why not just have the best year we can with each other. Right Artemis?" Cassie asks with a huge grin on her face. I give one equally as big.

"Yeah that sounds great. I've been needing to find a couple new people to vouch that my driving skills aren't hazardous." I joke, throwing a glance at Cassie who rolls her eyes.

"Listen, girl plus motorcycle equals hazardous bad ass chick regardless of you're driving skills." Nova says with a flick of her hair.

I mean hey, I don't want to brag but she has a point.

Glancing down towards Zrra I notice her furiously typing on her phone. The clicking of her white acrylic nails banging away with each letter.

"Woah what has the phone ever done to you?" I ask when Nova rolls her eyes as she looks at her best friends lengthy paragraph then proceeds to snatch the phone out of her hand startling Zrra.

"You need to stop." She says sternly glaring at Zrra who now furiously taps her nails against the table.

"What's happing? You look like you're ready to suit up for war and go into blood spraying rage." Cassie asks leaning her body more closely into the table.

"She has this obsession with Hay-"

"Shut up Nova! He's my bestfriend I'm trying to help him. Now give me my phone you vindictive little-"

"I dare you Zrra,Say it. Say it right to my face!"

Nova and Zrra are all in each other's faces, heavily breathing while managing to angrily stare at each other.

What the hell...

"I'm sorry," Cassie laughs and separates the two of them with her delicate arms, neither of them breaking there stars. "If you could just back track, just a tad bit," she asks pinching her fingers together. "That would be really help full."

Cassie don't intervene, I try to say as I glance as her trying to tell her to back off.

She looks at me, smiles, and the focuses her attention on our new friends.

"She's secretly in love with Hayden Jefferson, her best friend who is currently shacking up with Fibi Verona." Nova says in a disgust and o don't miss the involuntary flinch on Zrras face.

Cassie looks towards me and frown. Hayden Jefferson, aka, the twin brother to Hunter Jefferson. I didn't know the both of them personally but I head they were pretty decent guys, but neither of them settled down a with a girl. Not there whole group.

She's in love with a guy who doesn't want the same thing she does. That's got to be complicated.

I may not know much on love, but I know that has to be the hardest secret to keep. I reach over and take Zrras hand in mine and give it a light squeeze.

I honestly didn't know what else to do.

"It's not like that. You make it sound wrong on what he's doing."She says softly. Knowing that her bestfriend held no obligation to spare the feelings he didn't know his bestfriend has for him.

"I'm not saying it's wrong Zrra," Nova sighs pinching her nose together as she takes a deep breath. "I'm just trying to say that I'm tired of watching you get hurt every time he gets with a new girl."

"Hayden Jefferson, our schools best wide receiver, with someone like Fibi Verona." Cassie says in discuss as I know she recalls their childhood friendship, let's just say... Fibi didn't know how to handle the right attention. Which lead her down a path where her name became the doormat people wiped their feet on. "Zrras you can do better of he's sleeping with someone like her. Does he know you have feeling for him?"

I give Cassie a dumb look. "I think it's pretty obvious Cass that he doesn't know."

"Well," she starts of in a high pitches voice.

Oh god.

"There is this party tonight at Stacy's house,"

She's doing it..

"Which I know all the players of our school will be attending,"

Cassie stop.

"If you want to get a little bit of feedback if Mr.Jefferson gets jealous when he sees you with another guy."

Ladies and gentlemen meet my best friend the meddler.

"I don't know." Zrras says playing with a strand of her hair. Nova wraps an arm around her bestfriend.

"You're allowed to have fun and try to take interest in other guys."

Zrra contemplates for a few moments. Doubt flickering on her face.

"Okay, I'll do it, but please don't try and make me try and be with other guys. If we're gunna do this it's because I want to go an just have fun and if I happen to stumble upon a guy who is worth time at the moment, I'll handle it."

Cassie claps her hands rapidly and goes on a full blown discussion on what we can wear to the party tonight.

So much for drinking booze by the lake, god I hate high school.

And boys
