Aditi's POV

I smiled to myself,

I put my phone aside and let out a happy sigh. But then something popped up in front of me and scared the socks out of me.

Akanksha's face.

"Who were you messaging? Why are you smiling? And why do you look like you've seen a ghost?" She bombards me with questions.

"First, none of your business. Second Question, none of your business. Third, none of your business! If you didn't get it the first time, None of Your Business." I snorted and pulled the blanket over my face. I heard something click. Curious, I peeked out of the blanket. I saw Akanksha with my phone in her hand.

"What the heck!" I snatched the phone from her. Akanksha's smile looked like the Chesire Cats. Evil and too knowing.

"So..." Akanksha spoke too knowingly and sat down on the edge of my bed.

"Texting with Washington Sundar are we?" She wiggled her eyebrows suggestively.

"Gods!" I groaned and smacked her with a pillow.

"Come on, spill the details! Besties deserve to know." Akanksha nudged me and giggled.

"Yes, you're right..." I added with a smirk. "But where's my bestie?"

"Haha, now tell me." She answered dryly, her eyes had a curious hint to them.

"Look he just gave his number, and we just chatted a bit." I shrugged off her need for more details.

"Girl! Washington Sundar doesn't just give people his NUMBER! He's interested in you." Akanksha spoke to me as though I was a two-year-old needing instruction on how to walk.

"Oh go away! Just let me sleep." I whined and kicked her off my bed.

"One, I can't go away, I live here. Two, It would be against my rules if I let you sleep." Akanksha stood up nursing her gluteus Maximus. She'd drawn a breath to make another comment when I glared at her as hard as I could. I'm not sure when, but somehow I'd fallen asleep.

The morning had come by too soon, my body wanted to sleep while my brain cursed me out telling me to shut up and get ready for work. Complaining to myself, I got up and made my way to the bathroom. As usual, I pulled my phone out of the charge and checked it for notifications.

An urge of panic settled inside of me. I felt a lump of fear in my throat. I fumbled with my phone and pressed the call button on Paul's contact. Then

...My phone went black.

It hit me that I hadn't plugged my phone in properly. I stumbled into the living room where Akanksha was desperately looking at her phone. When her eyes landed on me, she shared the same panicked look.

"Does your phone have any charge?" She pleaded, her voice cracked. I shook my head no, and a brilliant idea hit me.

"Do you think we can borrow Harry or Kumar's phone?" My hopes started to climb as I voiced the idea.

"That...that could work!" Akanksha practically shouted.

Quick Intro, Harry and Kumar are our other roommates, we share an apartment with them. But some days we stay over at Deepika's house. So Harry and Kumar have a 'top-secret boy's night' whatever that's supposed to mean.

Akanksha practically sprinted and tumbled to Kumar's room. I ran toward Harry's, my thoughts were racing a thousand kilometers per hour.

"What's all the racket?" Harry came out of his room and rubbed his eyes.

"Can I borrow your phone?" I breathed and tried to keep a cool head.

"Sure." Harry yawned and stretched out his arms. I shoved him aside and bolted inside the room.

"Ow." Harry let out a squeak. It looked like he was french-kissing the floorboards which would have been a hilarious moment under different circumstances. I reached into Harry's drawer and pulled out the phone. Typing the password (Which Harry demanded how I knew it, it was 123456. Child's play I tell you.). Akanksha came out of Kumar's room.

"No luck." She sighed and slumped against the wall. She looked like she was going to cry.

"But I had some." I smiled, pointing to Harry's phone, Akanksha stood stock still for a moment then pounced on me and hugged me tightly. I quickly typed in Paul's number.

Ring...

Ring...

Ring...

The number you are calling is currently unavailable.

I realized that Paul had changed his number last month, and I didn't have the new one memorized.

"What's Paul's number?" I swung my gaze to Akanksha. She frowned and bit her lip thinking.

"020 7862 4422" Akanksha recalled and told me.

"No! That's his old number! Remember her changed it last week." I gritted my teeth in frustration.

"Uh... Guys?" Harry's voice came from the living room.

"HARRY HUGHES! I DON'T GIVE A DAMN ABOUT WHAT YOU HAVE TO SAY." Akanksha lashed out and hollered back at him.

"...Oh... I just thought you might wanna know that Deepika-" Harry stayed silent then started.

"Deepika? Deepika what?" I pushed Akanksha to the side and stuck my head into the living room to see the TV screen.

TV Screen:

I let out a strangled sob.

"Paul!" Akanksha's grateful voice came from behind me.

"Yeah, we couldn't recall your new number! But then I remembered that I had your number written on a sticky note-" Akanksha let out a shaky laugh but then stopped suddenly. The color drained from her face.

"I...I'm coming.." Akanksha mustered out the words and hung up.

"What happened?" I was at her side immediately and kept a comforting hand on her shoulder.

"Mom had an accident." Akanksha's lip quivered as she spoke. I pulled her into a hug, she sobbed and hugged me tighter.

It didn't affect me as much it did to her. So I had to be the strong one.

"You don't have to go to work today. You stay by Deepika all day. I'll do your share." I offered, Akanksha's teary eyes met mine and sent a silent thank you.

Well, it looks like I'm stuck with the ICT for the whole today.
