Chapter Ten: Your past, tell me about it

I woke up with Y/N no longer by my side, but I did find breakfast. I looked up and saw Y/N sitting there smiling.

"How long have you been there?" I asked.

"Few minutes, I got you breakfast," She replied before gesturing to the plate of food next to me.

"Thank you. What about Sarah?" I asked.

"Asleep."

I only nodded my head as I took a bite out of my apple, a small orange beside it.

"You can have my orange, I know you love oranges." She offered.

"No, thank you. it's all yours," I replied, calmly.
voice was gentle, his eyes almost sparkling in the sunlight from the little window.

She pulled a strand of her hair out of her face and behind her ear, I watched her quietly with an admiring look.

Silence throbbed through the air, the only sound was the soft chirping of the birds outside the window. Singing their morning songs, the beautiful chirps I found surprisingly relaxing.

"Did you sleep well?"

Y/N had spoken, breaking the silence. My eyes parted away from my food, my ears blocking out the chirps of the birds and to Y/N's curious words.

"Amazing, how about you?"

It was the truth.
Knowing Y/N she would probably think I was lying but I definitely wasn't this time. It was nice to not sleep on the ground, and to get a break from everything. Everything was peaceful here, too peaceful almost.

"Same as you, let's hope Sarah did as well."

  I nodded once more.
I feared for the young girl, I could tell Y/N did too. She's kind of like a daughter to me, I had often wondered in this short period of time if Y/N felt the same.
But Y/N and I aren't really in that type of relationship, are we?
I mean we both did say we loved each other last night, but you can say love for many different things.
My love for Y/N is I cared about her, but I could still care about her as a friend.
I wondered how Y/N meant it, my love wasn't for her as a friend. But it also was?
She was more of my mate, but also my travel buddy.
I don't like to think too far in the future, but when we do find our new home it would be nice to settle down.
Maybe Sarah could be our daughter?
It's quite hard to explain to a young girl that her parents are dead. When she gets older I could tell her, she's too young to understand right now. Especially in the state she's in.

By now I had finished my apple and had already started peeling the orange.
Y/N and I didn't talk, her eyes just traveled around the room.
She was lost in thought, you could see it in her eyes.
I tried not to show I was staring, but in the corner of my eye I could see her watching the blue jays outside the window, chirping sweet tunes like soft melodies to each other.
He sat on the bed beside me, still not facing me.
I never really knew what was wrong with us during our awkward silences, but it seemed we both didn't know how to start a conversation. We have nothing interesting to talk about.

  "Sam?"

I slightly jumped, but calmed after I saw Y/N's eyes meeting mine.
I turned my body to face her, the white sheets below us moving with me.

"Can we try and make this awkward silence go away?" She asked.

I smiled at her.

"What do you want to talk about?" I asked.

"Tell me more about your sister, what was she like?"

I was surprised by this, but I was curious. I wanted to know why she wanted to know more.

"Baylee? There's not much to say," I replied.

"Of course there is! I want to know what she looked like and her personality, and your favorite things about her!" Y/N replied.

Y/N interlaced her fingers with mine, our warms hands touching.
My palm being larger than hers, slightly though.
She lifted my palm over and studied it, waiting for me to answer.

"What on earth are you doing with my hand?" I asked.

"Studying it. Wait, hey! You're changing the topic!"

I laughed, then smiled before removing my hand away from Y/N's but taking both my hands and holding them within hers.

"Fine I'll tell you."

She made herself comfortable, waiting for me to describe Baylee.

"Baylee had very short dirty blonde hair, she looked cute with it might I add. She always said she didn't like it long and she wanted it short. She took our looks after our mother, but mostly with hair and our eyes. Our faces were almost identical, we had the same nose and smile. She had the dark brown eyes as well, inheriting that from our mother. We got everything else from my father," He explained every detail carefully, making me want to learn more.

"What about your home? Was it simple? Fancy?" She asked.

I had no idea why she was excited, I think I was just happy to have us talking about something other than food, sleep, weather, Sarah, or our travels.

"My home was rather small, but it had a nice view from upstairs. Our basement, not so much due to it being very dark and gloomy down there."

"The atmosphere down there wasn't a pleasant feeling after my mother died, it became even worse when Baylee was killed. But when I attempted to kill my father and failed, I felt horrible."

I stopped talking, looking around the room frantically and with an awkward look on my face. I made a weak smile when her gaze met mine. Her eyes were locked onto my face, almost studying me. I let my smile grow real and decided to change the topic to make both of us happy.

"I had a beautiful meadow near my home, full of gorgeous flowers. Thousands of them, everywhere. I would try to go there every day and collect flowers, but I soon learned I was taking the flower's life so I stopped taking them.
I felt as if I was taking them from their home, their family. I felt guilty for the other flowers I picked but I soon got over it," Y/N explained.

Y/N and I laid on the bed next to one another, talking about our old lives.
When we had both finished our stories, silence fell upon us for a hole minute until Y/N broke it.

"What do you want to do when we find our new home?" She asked.

  I looked at her.

"Find a house I can call mine. Get married to someone, maybe find Sarah a home," I replied.

  I shouldn't of said that.
She could tell when I was lying.
The truth was I wanted to be with her, have our own home with a beautiful view in a small town.
Maybe even a kingdom.
It would be nice to become a guard to the King or Queen, I am skilled in combat.
The other lie was, I would love to raise Sarah as my own.
It'd be nice to have a daughter, but maybe after a year or two I would like a child of my own.

"You're lying." She finally said, breaking the wall that separates me from reality, and leaves me trapped in my mind. My mind is a tower and reality is the wall around it, blocking me out of reality and keeping me locked up in my mind.

"It's pretty obvious, isn't it?" I finally asked.

  "Yes,"

I only sighed, but a sigh in relief to be exact. To be honest, I was hoping she would notice.
The urge to tell her the truth ate at me every second that passed.

"The truth is I want a place of my own in a kingdom. I want to raise Sarah with you,"
I explained everything else, he only took in the words and smiled.

"I would love to, Sam,"

Our lips met, and moved in sync.
I was happy, let's hope life doesn't ruin that.
