Chapter Twenty-Nine

The heart will always remember what the mind forgets.

Leaving The Hospital And Going To Live With Sameera.

Hayat's pov.

Lying to my father about my memories is somehow the worst thing I have ever done to both him and me. I don't want to be a burden to him knowing that he is happy that am now married.

Many questions will always be unanswered because no one is willing to answer them.

Not Sameera.

Not Zahir.

And not Aayan who is my husband.

How can I go to his home when I don't even remember our wedding?

Today is the day I am getting discharged from the hospital alhamdulillah.

Hayat, are you alright?", Sameera asks me. I don't know how to answer her.

"I am okay, alhamdullilah. Thank you for doing this. If I would have it any other way..."

"I know and understand what you are trying to tell me, Hayat. You are welcome any time at my house. Besides, you are my sister no matter what happens. Plus I won't want the witch to hurt you", she interrupts me.

This made me smile.

Whoever Azaan is, I hope and pray that he is safe from any type of harm.

Strangely how connected I am to him even though I don't even know him.

Zahir brought the discharge papers for me to sign.

Why?

I asked him to do that. I didn't want anyone to sign them.

Not my father who I had to lie to so that I won't be a burden to him.

And not Aayan who has been acting like a stranger to me.

"You are all set, Hayat. I will leave you to get dressed and then I will get you a wheelchair", He tells me.

I thanked him and then he walked out of the room leaving Sameera to help me.

"Can I ask you a question, Hayat?", she asks me as she helps me get dressed.

"Ask, Sam", I tell her even though she would ask without my permission.

"How do you find Aayan?", she asks surprisingly.

I looked at her with a confused look on my face.

"What do you mean by that?", I asked feeling a bit confused.

"As a person. As your husband?", she explained further.

"I don't know. He acts like a stranger to me even though we are married. I know that maybe our marriage might be arranged but he doesn't even talk to me as a wife. We are more like strangers than husband and wife", I answer her without knowing that someone is outside listening to what I just said.

"Would you give him a chance if he asks for it?", she asks me.

"Sure but if he is honest to me and doesn't treat me like a stranger. If he ever wants a second chance he will need to be my friend first. Because that's the first step in a relationship", I tell her as I tie my hijab.

Aayan's pov.

Hearing what she said. I was saddened by the fact that she felt that way for me. I broke her heart without her knowing.

As I was about to leave, Zahir walked toward me.

"Aren't you going inside?", he asks me. I shook my head.

"No, she doesn't need me. She has Sameera....."

"Stop putting yourself down Aayan. Stop acting like a stranger to her. She is your wife. Try to act like her friend. Because I know that you might feel that you are betraying Zainab. You aren't. It has been almost six years since she died. You need to open your heart for a new love. If you don't you might end up losing the best thing that has ever happened to you and Azaan. I will not be there when you lose the chance to be happy again. You are like my brother, more than my brother. Try and get to know her. She is unique that you will feel again. She made you start praying. Think about it, my brother," he says to me. "I will leave you now. I still have a few patients before we leave with Hayat. If you want to see her, go ahead", he added.

When Zahir left. I couldn't help but think that he was right. I owe her everything good in my life.

I knocked on the door and Sameera opened the door letting me in.

"Asalam Aleikum. Is Hayat.....?"

I couldn't even complete what I was saying.

"Waleikum salaam. She is in the bathroom and she is too stubborn that she doesn't want to use a wheelchair. Could you try and convince her to sit on it?", she asks me pointing at the wheelchair that was beside the bed.

I nodded.

She then leaves the room saying she had to go and find Zahir as she needed something from him.

I waited for Hayat to come out of the room so that I could talk her into going home with me. But I knew that she had made up her mind to go to Sameera and Zahir's place.

I am sorry, Azaan. I couldn't fulfil your dreams of getting your mamma back home. But I will try my best to get her back home with us. In shaa Allah.

Sameera's pov.

Life is strange because we don't know what will happen tomorrow or even next week or year.

My best friend Hayat had suffered enough and now her husband has been acting like a stranger when he knows what happened to her.

The accident made my best friend forget everything that was supposed to be important to her.

Ya Allah, guide these two souls to their destination. Make them understand each other even though it would be hard.

Hayat's happiness lies with Aayan and his happiness lies with her.

I was so happy that she wanted to stay at my house but when Aayan heard Hayat's decision he knew that he had messed up badly.

I am sorry, Hayat but what am I about to do for your good?

I closed the door but left it a little bit open for me to see what would happen.

Hayat limped out of the bathroom but she didn't see that Aayan was in the room.

"Sameera could you please help me get my shoe?", she called out to me.

I couldn't help but giggle at the thought of Aayan tying her shoe.

"I am sorry but she isn't here. She had an emergency. I can help you with that," he tells her moving closer to her.

"There's no need for that I will manage", Hayat tried to protest but Aayan wasn't having it.

He kneeled and took the shoe closer to her foot.

He then began tying it while Hayat looked at him.

Ya Allah, I hope this plan works because they need a push in the right direction.

"Thank you," she tells him putting her foot down as she was about to fall, Aayan grabbed her and pulled her closer to him.

"Seriously, Habibty. This is your plan. Not bad", Zahir whispers in my ears making me jump.

"Stop that", I tell him hitting his arm. "At least they are holding each other. Besides your best friend needs a huge push. If not then Hayat would have left him already", I added looking at Hayat and Aayan who were carrying her in his arms and walking toward the wheelchair.

He then put her down slowly in the wheelchair without taking his eyes off her face.

"We still need a better plan than this. Aayan has become himself ever since Hayat has been in his life. He seems calm and more focused on family and most importantly prayers. And I pray that their marriage lasts a long time. In shaa Allah", Zahir tells me.

We both look at them as Aayan couldn't stop looking at Hayat.

In the coming days, leaving Hayat home alone wasn't an option because she was still weak.

So the plans started happening. Called Aayan telling him that Zahir needed him at home while none of us were there.

Zahir and I want the best for our two best friends because they complement each other.

They both need to realize that they complete each other without putting much effort into their lives.

When someone needs a little push, you give them a shove. Because a small push might do nothing to

Ying and yang.

Light and dark.

Memories are stored in the heart and the mind always reminds us of how beautiful they are. The mind might forget but the heart will never.
