6) Bloody enemies
******************
3rd POV
******************
'Kill Annie Raynatt...'
'Take down Dark Shadows.'
'Kill Annie Raynatt.'
'Take down Dark Shadows.'
The voices echoed in his mind over and over, slowly pulling him from his void world till his eyes split open. When his sight became less blurry, he made out a slender frame standing a safe distance away while a manly figure was examining his scar.
They didn't notice him coming out of unconsciousness, so he pretended to still be disconnected from the world and shut his eyes.
"Can he survive another round?" Z/Jack heard Annie ask, her voice full of disappointment.
"Yes, but would probably be the last," answered the man hovering around him.
"Tsk! What a wuss!" She muttered under her breath, adding an eye-roll that expressed exactly how she felt about Z/Jack's state.
"Annie?" Luke called briefly, before turning around to face her. His face bore a seriousness she saw only when he had bad medical news. "I do not mean to pry into your business, but, can't you leave all these stressful things to someone else? Don't forget you're-"
"I'm okay Luke." She smiled assuringly, "I'm taking good care of myself. I slept better last night, even had a dream."
Luke's seriousness was broken by a slight chuckle of amusement. He knew she was lying straight to his face, but there was only so much he could do as her doctor.
All he hoped for was that she would put herself and the baby at risk by dealing with men like Zack.
"Okay then. I'll have a great day knowing your insomnia disappeared overnight."
She laughed in turn, knowing that he had picked up the lie.
Lying on that bed, Z/Jack's mind processed the new information. His target had insomnia, and probably some other illness that the doctor was concerned about. The doctor also sounded like he cared about the female more than a doctor-patient relationship whilst Annie held no trace of special warmth in her voice for him.
It could have been just like his relationship with Sara.
Thinking of his training partner, a sudden fear drilled a hole into his heart. The last time he had seen her was back in the camp. She had looked anxious and edgy as if she knew something but his it from him.
They were supposed to take this mission together, so where was she?
"I'll change his bandage first. You may go out for a-"
"I'll stay!" It came out almost as a squeak. But it was only the deep emotions acting within her.
She just didn't want to leave Z/Jack alone before he could tell her exactly what happened the night Jack disappeared.
Once Luke was done, he walked out, leaving Annie standing by the wall, scrutinizing the 'unconscious' man.
She tore her back from the surface, dragged her feet across the windowless room till she got to the side of the bed.
For over twenty minutes, Z/Jack waited for her to make a move. He regulated the beating of his heart and the rising of his chest to match that of an unconscious person.
Tik!
Tik!
At long last, she did.
Her warm hand slid to cup his left jaw, brushing along his short beard before it moved to tuck some strands of his hair behind his ear.
"What right do you have to look like him? Your heart is dark as the dead night, and your mind is messed up like a psycho. How did the two of you end up as brothers?" Annie murmured as she continued to caress Z/Jack's face out of a longing for Jack.
How she wished it was her Jack lying there.
Even if he'd be crippled, she'd still love him.
Why did their enemy show up instead?
"I wish you died years ago... Jack and I wouldn't have been separated. But at least I'll be the one to kill you this time. I'll make sure you're dead for good," she hissed into his ear, and the second it slid into his system, his heart fell out of tune, giving out a loud pound.
With her chest pressed on top of his, she felt the change of his heartbeats, alerting her that he may be regaining his consciousness.
She began retreating when a yank in her hair made her freeze with a yelp.
The cuffs clinked against the metal part of the bed as Z/Jack's hand darted to grab hold of Annie's hair in a tight grip.
"Fuck!" She grunted, unaware that her hair wasn't stuck but it was the enemy who was attacking her.
She sent her right hand to examine where the hair may have gotten stuck, only to feel a large hand gripping a good portion of her hair.
A little gasp escaped her as her head bobbed up and sideways to check whether Z/Jack was awake.
Her curious eyes were welcomed by a pair of hateful green eyes which were frowning at her.
"Let go!" She demanded furiously.
"Uncuff me."
"In your damned nightmares!" Annie spat coldly, glaring at him like the threat he was.
In return, Z/Jack yanked her hair, prompting her to yelp from the pain. But she quickly moved her body up to lessen the pain and prevent him from yanking again.
"Uncuff me Annie!" Z/Jack ordered flatly.
"Just because I can't do anything to you right now doesn't mean I won't make you feel pain. Now let go dammit!"
Z/Jack huffed and once more, yanked, but this time, to the side towards his head and as far as the cuffs could allow the wrist movement.
"Ss! Ow!" Annie groaned grabbing his wrist to cease his attack before swinging her left leg over his upper abdomen to pull herself on him.
After straddling his abdomen, Annie quickly worked on loosening his hand from her hair, peeling one finger at a time.
Z/Jack frowned as he felt his defeat kicking in. She was damn strong.
Blame it on the lack of food since he awakened to her torture.
As she peeled off the pinky finger, she snapped it mercilessly.
"Argh!" Z/Jack groaned out, thrusting his head backward till there was no more room.
The pain from his broken finger felt like a zap of electricity traveling through his chest.
But he quickly suppressed it, squeezing his eyes shut till veins popped from his temples.
"Stop messing with me, Zack. I have a lot of ways to make you talk," Annie reminded.
"I'll give back the pain tenfold!" Z/Jack swore in a deep horrendous grunt.
Annie could only laugh.
"Maybe in your next life."
With that, she quickly slipped off of him her fingers combing through her hair to straighten where Z/Jack had tangled.
"And if you need that finger treated, you better start talking."
He didn't say anything. Didn't even move half an inch. All he could think of at that moment was how he would torment her in the near future. He'd break every finger and toe, pull out her hair strand by strand till there was none left.
She had made the grieve mistake of torturing her, he'd make sure she experienced the same pain, only stronger and harsher.
