Chapter Thirty Two.

Chapter Thirty Two.

Samuel watched as Alena withered in pain on the ground. Her back arched upwards and her small chest heaved with desperate breathes, he could see from where he was being restrained by his father and uncle that she couldn't breathe. He had never felt so helpless in his entire life, he could only stand by and watch as Tabitha and Adrian tormented his mate. His wolf had wanted to break free and rip Tabitha limb from limb and he wanted nothing more than to allow his wolf to take over, but he couldn't. Tabitha had control over him as Alena lay on the floor unconscious and in pain as whimpers escaped her bloody lips, a scream every now and then piercing the garden.

It was clear to him and everyone around him that the time had come for Alena to make her decision. No one had known what would happened when the time came but now as he watched Alena, his little mate withered in pain on the ground his wished that he could hold her tight and take the pain away. It went against everything within him, as a mate and an Alpha to stand by helplessly while his mate withered in pain.

Tabitha was in a state of shock. Her already wild hair seemed to stick out in all different directions, the crazed look in her brown eyes made her appear wild. She wasn't sane. Everyone watched as Tabitha gripped her hair between his fists and pulled, a frustrating scream leaving her mouth as she starred down at Alena with hatred. Her plan had failed, she knew it, Adrian knew it, the witches and the rogues that had sided with her also knew it judging by the looks they were sharing with each other whilst some back away and towards the forest.

It was too late to turn and run away, Samuel and his pack would not allow them to escape. The hope of escaping that Samuel had seen in their eyes disappeared as Dean's pack burst through the forest behind them, masses of wolves growled and snapped at the rogues and witches that turned in fright. They were outnumbered and defenceless as the leader that they all turned to look at for support, for guidance drooped to her knees.

A clash of thunder sounded loudly above them as the already dark clouds seemed to turn a darker shade of grey. The heavens opened up as small drops of rain began to poor downs getting heavier and heavier until the rain made it hard to see even with the advanced eyesight that came with being a werewolf. The weather was slowly getting worse as the thunder increased and the flash of lightening could be seen. The rain soaking his entire being as well as everyone else. Alena screamed loudly causing many of the wolves from both Samuel's and Dean's pack to whimper at the hurt that could be heard.

Samuel's wolf whimpered inside of him, desperate to help his mate.

"No," Tabitha muttered before she looked up to the sky before screaming out loud. Adrian walked to her side, his expression unreadable as he reached out to place a comforting hand on his mother's shoulder.

"You've lost Tabitha," Samuel shouted from the crowd, his eyes zeroing in on his bloody and injured mate who was whimpering in pain, her back no longer arched upwards and her breaths strangled.

"No I haven't." Tabitha's voice was crazed as she turned where she kneeled to face Alena.

Samuel shook off the hold that his father and uncle had on him as he lunged forwards. He released the hold that he had on his wolf as he allowed him to break free from his mind and spread to every inch of his being. The familiar burning sensation and small pained that he felt every time he shifted took over before he was on all fours. The rain soaked his fur within seconds causing it to become heavy and thick but he ignore it as he pushed himself to run faster.

He didn't even shake out his fur as he ran towards where Tabitha was crawling along the floor to Alena. His pack and Dean's pack seemed to lung with him as they attacked the witches and rogues that remained still, not knowing what to do.

Samuel was out for blood, his mouth watered with the prospect of ripping Tabitha apart, the women who had hurt what was his, who had consumed her every thought for the past few weeks and causing a constant cloud of worry to hang over their heads. He could hear the growls and whimpers around of him as well as loud screaming but he blocked it out as he focused on the red head that had now turned to stare at him.

He had always been against death and killing especially when it could have been avoided but that wasn't the case for Tabitha, or the rogues and witches that came with her. They had attacked his pack, threatened and hurt his mate which was enough to deserve death and he knew that someday he would regret his actions but not for a very long time. He wanted revenge and he wasn't going to stop until his got it.

"We've got Adrian," Daniel said through the pack link as he saw from the corner of his eye Daniel and Dean in wolf form, running at Adrian who seemed unsure of what to do.

Samuel didn't reply as he lunged at Tabitha. The witch seemed to snap out of whatever daze she was in as she rolled out of the way before Samuel to clamp his jaws down on her throat. He landed gracefully before he turned around to see Tabitha standing, he hands out in front of her was she grinned at him. It was a grin that was enough to be imprinted in his mind for a very long time.

It didn't matter that she had lost because Tabitha was still going to inflict as much pain as she could on him and his pack as well as Dean's. He didn't know why she wouldn't give up but he knew that she was crazy, and she was hungry for power which seemed to drive her to do the unthinkable, to stand up to an Alpha wolf and his pack when there was no chance of her serving.

"She's going to die you know," she taunted as she flicked her red hair over her shoulder as if she didn't care, "she's lost a lot of blood."

Samuel snapped his jaws at her, baring his teeth as he prepared himself to lung at her again. He could see from the corner of his eyes that Alena's mum and the oracles were tending to Alena whilst his parents and uncles surrounded them, guarding them from the rogues and witches that had decided to fight back. He focused back on Tabitha who was smiling as if she knew how much she had annoyed him.

Samuel ran at her at full speed, his paws hitting the ground with force as the dirt turned up under his pads his, eyes locked on Tabitha throat where he could see her gulp. He didn't have a chance to lung at her before she flicked her wrist and sent him flying through the air where he landed on the ground with a huff, a small pain exploding in his ribs but it wasn't enough to stop his pursuit. He got to his feet with a small shake of his large head before her ran at her again, Tabitha looked surprised as he advanced on her again, more determined than ever to kill her. He had been raised to never hit women, to treat the with respect but Tabitha was his only exception, she deserved no respect after everything that she had done.

Her hands came out in front of her as she blocked his path with and invisible force, it felt as if he had run into a brick wall as he stumbled backwards, shaking his head for her was momentarily dazed. Tabitha's smug smile never left her face as he looked behind her to see that most of the witches and Rogues were dead or tied up, unable to move or use their magic.

"Give up yet all mighty Alpha?" She sneered mockingly as he growled at her.

There was a sudden change in the atmosphere around them, it seemed to crackle and lighten as he watched the dark ones around him. There once lethal attacked and moves turns sluggish, and uncoordinated them seem exhausted.

He realised that Alena had done it. She had made her decisions as the lights ones rose up against those that tried to kill them, taking them down swiftly with new found strength.

He saw from the corner of his eye a bright red coloured wolf run towards Tabitha with his head bowed. Tabitha was unaware of the wolf advancing on her fast, its bright blue eyes bright with determination as he recognised the wolf as Reece. Samuel hadn't thought that his half-wolf, half-with coins would be able to shift but as he ran across the field being the size of a normal male wolf surprised him.

Samuel watched as his cousin tackled Tabitha from the side, catching her by surprised as she screamed in surprised. Reece sent them to the ground as he growled and snapped his jaw at her. It was the distraction he needed to advance on Tabitha who had propelled Reece through the air where her hit a tree and landed on the floor with a small whimpered escaping his muzzle.

As Tabitha sat up, recovering from the fall he lunged at her, taking her once again by surprised as his paws landed on her shoulder forcing her to the ground as his claws extended and dug into the skin of her shoulders. She glared, a fire burning in her brown eyes but it was top late as he dipped his head to her neck where he sank his teeth into her flesh without a second thought. The metallic taste of blood invaded his mouth as Tabitha let out a blood curdling scream that turned into a gurgling sound as he clamped down harder on her throat.

It didn't take long for her already weak struggles to stop completely as the gurgling seized causing Samuel to release her throat as he lifted his head to see that Tabitha was dead, his eyes closed with blood was smeared along her cheek and chin. He should have made her suffer for what she had done but Samuel didn't have the time for that, he was desperate to get to his mate to make sure that she was alive and breathing.

He tilted his head back as he howled to the sky. He was howling for his recent kill and the deaths of those that had lost their lives. It was still raining heavily as he squinted his eyes as rain socked his face and dripped off of his muzzle. Many of the wolves joined him as they to tilted the heads backed and howled to the thundering sky above them

Samuel didn't waste any more time as he cut of his howl and turned towards the direction of where his mate was still lying on the ground unconscious. Many wolves from both his pack and Dean's had gathered around her, either in wolf form and human with their heads bowed, soft whimpered escaping their mouths as they feared for the life of their young soon-to-be Luna. He saw his father now if human form ordering many pack warriors to take those that still remained alive to the holding cells where their fate would be decided later.

Samuel couldn't think straight. The adrenaline that had been fuelling him early had now worn off leaving him exhausted and tired. His thoughts were a mess but one thing was clear and that was that he needed to get to Alena as quick as her could, his wolf was winning inside of him, the urge to make sure that Alena was still alive was over bearing.

The two packs that had come together as one separated from him as he walked through the parted crowd, they all bowed their heads as he strode through, and ignoring the look of sorrow and pity that were shoot his way. He could see the Daniel and Dean knelt down in front of him, their forms tense as they knelt over Alena. As if sensing his presence they looked over their shoulders, theirs eyes watered with unshed tears as they moved away, allowing him to see his mate. The oracles and the rest of the light ones had gathered on the other side of her, there palms facing downwards as they each chanted a spell in a language that Samuel had never heard before.

Alena was still unconscious on the floor, she hadn't moved from where she had collapsed. She lay on her back, her face tilted to the side so that she was facing him. Samuel cringed at the sight that he knew would be forever ingrained into his mind. He could see the dried blood that coated her cheek and mouth, her lover lip fat and swollen with a cut that was still bleeding. Her hair was a wild mess of knots and dirt, her hair stuck out from where Tabitha had grabbed it as he shuddered at the memory. Her clothes were torn and messy, covered in dirt and blood, the smell of blood clinging to her as if she had gotten a new scent.

He bowed his head as he wolf whined out loud. He didn't care that he was showing weakness in front of his pack and Dean's. He had made a promise to himself and Alena that she would protect her no matter what, and he had failed her. He could barely see the small rise and fall of her chest or hear the small gasps for breaths she took, her heart beat was fate and weak but it was there.

"Samuel," Adaliegh spoke softly as she opened her eyes and the chant was broken between the witches, "we've stabilised her for now but she needs medical attention urgently, it will only last for so long but long enough to take her to the hospital."

Samuel nodded his head as a pair of shorts was thrown onto the ground at his feet. He shifted in front of both packs not caring about his naked body as he pulled on the shorts numbly before bending down and gently sliding his hands under her back and knees. The whimper that came from Alena had his heart breaking and wolves whimpering. He could feel the torn flesh of her back on his forearm, the smell of fresh blood assaulted his advance sense of smell as he felt the warm liquid trail down his arm.

The hospital had its own private word for werewolves built within it. The majority of the doctors at the local hospital were werewolves and although the pack had its own medical centre Alena needed the best to recover. To stay alive, he thought with a whine.

Ambulances had been called and were now arriving, packed full of werewolf paramedics to take care of the injured and those that had lost their lives. Samuel began to run towards the closet one, the paramedics belonging to his pack already knowing what had happened to Alena were ready and waiting as he gently placed her down on the trolley as they instantly got to work.

"We'll meet you at the hospital." Daniel spoke from behind him as he looked to see that many of the pack members stood behind his younger brother. Dean was at his side and the oracles closely behind them, Alena's mother was crying into the shoulder of his mum who too, looked as if she was about to burst out crying.

"The pack will be sorted in you absence," his father told him as he looked at him, nodding his head once, "make sure you take good care of her son."

Samuel only nodded, unable to speak as he climbed into the ambulance as the doors were shut behind him. The lights and sirens were turned on as the two paramedics began to remove the items of clothing Alena wore, she had already been hooked up to a drip and a blood transfusion and injected with morphine.

"Alpha, were going to have to strip her down into her underwear." A paramedic said as she looked at him for approval. If the two had been males he would have hesitated but as it was two females working on healing his mate he nodded his head before she had even finished.

Samuel reached out and took Alena small, bloody hand in his own, flinched as he felt how cold her skin was against his own. He watched through unseeing eyes as her clothes were cut until she lay in nothing but the underwear he had seen her in earlier, her entire backs was covered in blood as the turned her over so that she lay on her front. He didn't listen as the two urgently conversed with each other as they fussed over Alena who had gone still.

He closed his eyes tightly. He had seen the three long call marks that went from her right shoulder all the way down to her left hip, the wounds had been deep as blood continued to sock the mattress she lay on. He held tightly onto her small had as whimpered began to sound through the back of the ambulance, although Alena was unconscious and had morphine injected to her, she was still whimpering in pain and the thought was slowly killing him and his wolf. He wished he could take her pain away as he ran his fingers over her cold knuckles.

The ambulance came to a sudden halt as the doors were thrown open and the trolley carrying his mate was pulled out of the ambulance, forcing him to let go of Alena's hand as she was rushed into the emergency centre. Samuel ran behind them as the automatic doors opened and the doctors and nurses that had be gathered around the front awaiting their Luna's arrival helped wheel the trolley through many doors that were being held open by others.

"Alpha, I'm sorry but you can't go in there." A male nurse stood in front of him with his arms raised as another came at to his side. Samuel was forced to a halt as he watched through the window of the now closed doors Alena being wheeled away into another room.

"I have to," he growled as he went to take a step around them only to have them follow his movement.

"She's going into emergency surgery. I'm sorry but you're going to have to wait out here." The other joined in as they both shook with fear.

"Let me in," he growled again, his wolf coming forwards as the two cowered in fear.

Two hands grabbed either of his arms as he was pulled back and away from the cowering nurses who looked relieved.

"Samuel," Daniel spoke from his side softly, "there's nothing you can do but wait and let the doctors do their job, you being there will only distract them and make things worse and we know you don't want that."

"You're right." He sighed, regaining his control as he sagged his bare shoulders and the hands that held him released him. He walked over to the wall and slumped to the ground as he held his head in his hands.

He longed to see Alena, to see her bright blues eyes sparkle with happiness, to see her smile showing off her two dimples, to see the pretty blush that covered her cheeks, to hear her voice, her giggle and her laugh, to kiss her soft, pink lips and to hear her tell him she loved him over and over again.

"She's going to be fine, she's a fight." Dean spoke up as the two protectors sat on either side of him.

"I hope you right."

It had been a week and a half since the battle and Alena had yet to wake up. Samuel sat by her side every day and night, clutching onto her hand as he told her over and over again how sorry her was, how much he loved and that when she woke up he was going to spend every second of every day showing her that. He spoke to her as if she could hear him in her comatose state. He spoke about his day and what he had done, which was mostly sit at her side or sleep, he spoke about the pack and how they were coping with the aftermath of the attack and anything that came to mind.

Alena never reacted to anything he told to her, never moved or gave him a sign that she was listening to him. She had recovered from the surgery as they had operated on her pack and stitched her up, stopping the bleeding. She now lay in a blue hospital gown, with bandages wrapped around her upper half that were changed twice a day. She had been cleaned and bathed free of dirt and blood, leaving her skin a sickly pale colour.

Samuel looked up at his mate as she lay peaceful and still, her black hair around her shoulders and past her breast fell in loose curls, her eyes closed and her long lashes fanning across her his cheeks bones, the cut on her lips small but visible and the swelling had gone down.

Although they had won, no one was in the mode for celebrating with Alena still unconscious and those that had died only just being buried with respect the pack had lost its happiness, its enthusiasm as sorrow and worry took over.

"Please wake up," he begged from where he sat on a plastic chair at the side of her bed. Her small hand held in both of his in a tight hold.

Alena had had many visitors from the pack each bring cars and gifts that rested on the table at the end of her bed. Alena's parents visited her every day, and every day they looked worse and worse, it was clear that they rarely slept or ate not that he blamed them; he too had lost his appetite. Daniel and Dean were both sleeping on the sofa in the corner of the room, snoring quietly; they rarely left Alena's side. The oracles, his uncles and his parents visited as often as they could which was at least once a day, every day looking hopeful only to be disappointed when they saw that she wasn't awake.

Alena's school had been told that she was attacked by a wild animal in the woods, it was a believable story and it would explain the claw marks on her back. It had surprised him how many people Alena knew or associated with as many had visited brings gifts and get well soon cards that were scattered around the room. The head master, a member of the pack had visited along with many teachers who were also member of the pack, showing their support and asking if there was anything that he needed.

It had surprised him and every one else when Lucy's mum had turned up crying, saying she couldn't believe what had happened. It had taken long for everyone to realise that she knew nothing that had happened as she had sobbed and explained how Lucy was with her father coping with the news of her best friend.

He didn't need much, only for Alena to wake up. His wolf had curled up into a ball inside of him, whimpering and howling for his mate to wake up. The doctors had said that Alena's body had shut down, giving her time to heal naturally and recover without any problems. He had been reassured that she would wake up when she was ready and when her body was ready.

Samuel felt as if a part of him was missing and he knew that that part was Alena. Alena had become a big part of his life, the centre of his very being and now that she injured and unconscious it felt as if there was an endless hole in his chest. Alena was his life, his soul-mate, his other half and the one who was made for him. He loved her more than life itself and he briefly wonder if Alena never woke up what would become of him, he knew that he wouldn't be able to move on with his life. He knew the stories of losing a mate and how painful it was; many wolves went crazy or killed themselves because of the emptiness.

A small groan pulled him out his thoughts as he lifted his head from where it had been resting on Alena's forearm to look at her face, her nose was scrunched up and her eyes lids were shut tightly, crinkled not like the relaxed state they had been in a few minutes ago.

He thought he was going to explode with hope as he stood from the chair, the legs scraping against the granite floor with a screech, startling Daniel and Dean awake as they sat up but he didn't care. He was too focused on the black hair beauty that was slowly shaking her head from side to side, small groans escaping from the back of her throat.

"Come on sweetheart," he encouraged softly, reached up to tuck a black curl behind her ear that had gotten in her face.

Daniel and Dean were out of their seats in a matter of seconds as they realised what was happening. Daniel pressed the button above Alena's bed that called for the nurses as he leaned over the bed, grasping Alena's other hands in his, "Open your eyes Little."

"Alena," Samuel cooed softly feeling a small pressure in his hand from where she squeezed it.

The breath caught in his throat as Alena's eye gently opened only to shut again. The room was silent as they watched her open and close her eyes, blinking rapidly as he sensitive eyes adjusted to the bright light of the hospital room.

Samuel felt relief flood through his entire being as his wolf came alive within him at the sight of Alena's eyes; the familiar beautiful clear blue of two crystals slowly looked around the room before the settle on him. He wanted to lean over a kiss her, he wanted to place kisses all over his face before slowly taking her lips but he refrained himself and his wolf. She opened her mouth to speak but only nothing came out as she gasped for air.

"Water," Samuel ordered to either Daniel or Dean not taking his eyes off Alena who looked uncomfortable. He could hear the sound of water being poured into a cup before rushed footsteps made their way to the other side of the bed. A cup was handed to Alena, who took it with shaking hands and brought it to her lip where she drank the entire contents in one, her small hand darting out to wet her chapped lips.

"Where am I?" Her voice was hoarse and cracked a little as the cup was taken from her so that it could be refilled. Samuel had never heard such a beautiful sound as he smiled widely at Alena who was looking around the room curiously taking everything in.

"You're in a hospital sweetheart." Samuel spoke softly drawing her attention back to him. She starred at him wide eyed, confusion dancing across her features.

"Who are you?" She asked softly.

"Very funny Alena," Daniel grinned from her side as she turned to face him to.

"Who are you?" She whispered again as she pulled her hands free from both his grip and Daniels.

Samuel felt as if cold water had been thrown over him, drenching him completely. It dawned on him that Alena wasn't joking, the confusion in her eyes, the uncertainty on her face and the fear that rolled off on her in waves meant that she truly had no idea who he was, who Daniel or Dean was and probably everyone else as well.

He took a step back from her bed as if she had shoved his chest. His wolf howled inside of him as the hole in his chest seemed to get impossibly bigger, his entire body ached, ached with the need to touch Alena, to feel her smooth skin, but he couldn't. He didn't want to scare her more than she already was but as his wolf began to howl impossibly loud inside of him he wished for nothing more than the ground to swallow him up.

Alena, his own mate didn't know who he was.
